Charisma- this boy has it

Well, given the choice between a snooze fest between two behemoths who basically circle each other for the better part of a five rounder, which is what a UFC heavyweight title fight is these days, and the kind of charisma that Jonathan has, I'll take the charisma.

Curious, did you guys have a problem with Sakuraba when he pulled his theatrics??

I do not like any acts that are disrespectful to the opponent.

Sakuraba is one of the most skilled fighters in the world. He has fought and beaten the world's most elite fighters. So in some sense, he has earned his place to be more of a showman and I do not think Sakuraba has been disrespectful.

The fighter in that clip has a losing record and is not fighting top tier fighters by any means. While I respect his courage and drive to compete, he should extend respect to his opponents. Unfortunately, this is one of the downsides of MMA as it has broken down the mutual respect that is enstilled in typical martial arts training.
 
I can definitely see where you're coming from, but if you asked him if he meant for it to be disrespectful to his opponent, he would say absolutely not. He would tell you he's just trying to put a little bit of excitement and humor in the fight in order to give the fans a little something extra.

That's all it is- entertainment, not disrespect.

True disrespect is Rampage, Coleman, Yamamoto, etc. doing their respective nonsense.
 
I pretty much agree with grandpa Rogue. Although I think a select few can get away with some in ring showmanship. Just little stuff, like when Alves threw Desouza down and then walked toward him like the terminator. Rogue made a good point in saying that he understands that Ivey is playing toward that particular crowd. Now that I've been as nice as humanly possible, I will add that Rogue is also correct in saying that you are backing the wrong fighter. I am impressed that you're sponsoring Benji Radach, he seems like a good guy and is definitely a good fighter. Savage, you probably know Ivey pretty well, and I bet he's a funny, cool dude so you're kind of swayed. When most of us saw the vid, our immediate reaction is "what an idiot". Oh and I wouldn't recommend him trying to do that to Sylvia, as we saw in the Assuerio fight Sylvia has a mudslide waiting for him:blink:

It may be splitting hairs here, but isn't showmanship a characteristic of charisma? I would think so.

But that aside, to be fair to Jon, he's just doing this because it was the ECI heavyweight title fight. He obviously can't do that in the UFC or even King of the Cage (with whom he is negotiating with) because he'll have his hands full just winning the fight. So in these organizations, he would definitely be all business after the bell.

This fight was an absolute walk in the park for him so he just wanted to throw in some extra threatrics to make it more exciting. The fight would have been a total waste of time, for the fightes and the fans, if he had just destroyed the guy instead of putting a little something extra in there for the fans.

So given the circumstances, I didn't think it was a big deal at all. I thought it was pretty funny, actually.

A lot of his losses are because of very poor training, strategizing, and management. He actually is a talented fighter and it's only recently that things have really started to gel for him. He's on a 9 or 10 fight win streak now, I believe.
 
Any word on who and when Benji is fighting? Best of luck to Ivey, the guy is a friggin tank, what is he 5'7" 280?
 
No I'm waiting to hear back from Benji on what his schedule is. All I know so far is that he's fighting for Bas on the Anacondas. I would think he's fighting very soon, though, since the season is just about to start.

Ivey is 5'9", about 240 now. He was 290 at one point!

hahahaha, I definitely deserve that, what about the whole discretion is the better part of valor thing? Just the other day you were calling me fisety, sucks being a fisety asskisser. At least I'm not ****ting my pants like Tim Sylvia on a regular basis(yeah I'm sticking to the old man theme for a while).

p.s. As a side not to the asskissing accusation, I do like Radach, he's damn good.
 
Looks like Radach will be fighting Ryan Mcgivern. I don't know much about Mcgivern, I believe he's primarily a grappler. Hopefully Radach will be able to sprawl and throw some hands.

It is obvious that his opponent was not nearly as skilled as he was. To me, this makes all the more reason to dispose of his opponent quickly. He obviously has alot of experience but his record is not favorable for him so beating opponents quickly in dominant fashion would make more sense and be smarter. A fighter can land a lucky punch or a winning fighter get hurt and lose (think Rua vs Coleman).

It is good that he is starting to train better. He will need to dramatically cut weight if he ever wants to compete with upper level fighters. Best of luck to him and other fighters just for having the drive and courage to compete.
