carnitine question

This may be a dumb question, but I've heard of carnitines referred to as salts...are they actually salt, like do they contain sodium? I am 1 week out from competiton and a few grams of sodium make a big difference for me...

Generally, compounds are referred to salts irregardless of Na involvement(which be be like salt stabilized substances).
