Cardio

I have to admit, I've never been a cardio fan, I lift weights 5 days a week and I ignore the cardio part. I think it's time to change my ways. I'm not trying to lose weight. Just simply trying to improve my heart health. How often should I do cardio and for how long without losing muscle mass?

Me personally I do cardio 5 times a week. But that's because I'm trying to lose excess fat while lifting 3 days a week. I just do hiit cardio. I warm up for 3-5 minutes then intervals for 20 minutes followed by 4-5 minutes or cool down.

I don't know if this helps considering we are in two different boats while I'm trying to build muscle as well or at the very least keep the muscle I have while cutting the fat.

Personally I just walk for between two and four miles (occasionally I jog) daily and eat the calories back if I do not want to lose weight

Any type of cardio will be good for heart health. If you're trying to get the best bang for your buck time wise, I'd go with HIIT.

HIIT is very beneficial at helping increase V02 Max and metabolic rate, and it doesn't take up a ton of time. I personally do some HIIT, and I also enjoy hiking or walking outdoors for cardio. I stay away from jogging and long distance running for personal preference, but it is good for the heart as well.

I would start by adding in 2-3 sessions per week if you're looking to improve your cardiovascular health. It doesn't need to be anything extreme. And as stated above, account for the calories burned from cardio by eating more so you don't start losing weight.

I like to do hill sprints..very effective..easy on the hamstrings..
