Cardio on Cycle

My question is: if you were running a 500 test and 50 var cycle with the goal of losing some fat. What would your weekly cardio routine be? Or has been in the past that's worked for you?

Nothing beats running of you ask me, sprints is probably better if want to keep/gain muscle mass and long distance is better if it’s pure weight loss you’re after, both will burn fat. Cardio after weights is better than before for muscle mass.

Do whatever cardio you are technically worst at.....

I’m actually serious, inefficiency in movement patterns causes energy wastage which in this case is a good thing as your calorie burn per unit of time will be higher.

I think it was Dan John that said (when speaking about about what cardio to do) ‘do what you suck at until you don’t suck at it anymore, then do something different’

I would just eat in a deficit and only add more cardio if needed. I do two ten minute sessions per week no matter my goal. However, I would not add more unless I was deep into a cut. I would opt to reduce calories first.

Remember, losing fat is as simple as eating less calories than your body needs.

F*ck cardio, just lift weights faster.

Just kidding. Do as much as your body and schedule allows. Personally, it’s harder for me to recover from an intense run than it is to recover from lifting heavy. That’s just my body. So two days a week is all I’d do, assuming the intensity is high. But you don’t even have to run. You could just start walking or biking more.

After working 60 hrs a week and hitting the weights 5-6 days a week. I just don't have much energy left in the tank for cardio. So I don't nearly do much as I should. I guess what I'm looking for is a baseline amount that I should set for myself as a standard minimum. Just wanted to see what types of activities with frequencies that has worked for y'all. And no choking my one eyed Turkey ain't cutting it. Pun intended.

Interested to see how this cycle treats you. I have the same ready to go just trying to figure out when I want to start (before or after the holiday season).

Id do more on cycle than off. My usual two high intensity conditioning days plus as much walking or stationary biking at low intensity as id have time for. Being on cycle, muscle loss wont be a concern so id try to maximize that.

I’ve never done the Var but my bud says it causes strong muscle pumps. Which is awesome, but pumped calves while running could be an issue. Anybody have any insight on this?

Var does give pumps but in my experience it happens when I'm not drinking enough water. Also taurine helps but preventive measure is make sure your getting enough fluids before you get to that point... Once you start having them it takes a good day to get rid of even if you start hella hydrating.

^This^ if you are hydrated and take taurine I felt Var helped with cardio, but, one morning I went for a fasted jog and had to stop halfway because my calf cramps was too much, had to walk back, I guess I hadn’t been drinking enough water that morning...

Some minor stomach pumps so far other than that nothing else to note atm. Starting next week I'll up the cardio

This is very diet dependant. I'm eating super clean almost every day and I can run 20 minutes 3 times a week and stay lean year round while before I was doing cardio for hours and still didn't lose bodyfat.

Maybe a good start would be to have a little run before your workouts. Maybe just 3 times a week say 20 minutes.

As long as you have the energy to to both. I think it depends how long you run for but if you have unlimited time it's probably better to do it different days all together. My thoughts running before gym is that I only have and hour a day to one and a half I want to spend at the gym so getting the puls up a little is all I'm after. If someone wants to lose a lot of fat I'd agree with you but I think it's important regardless to fuel your body with energy in between if you're doing a lot of cardio.

Ime 15-20 minutes 3-4x weekly is perfect if your recomping or lean bulking. If your cutting or gaining a bit of fat slowly up the cardio 5 minutes at a time until its effective.

Yeah exactly. And I think people need to get used to changed diets and exercise. Your body needs to adapt meaning it might take twice as long as one would think to start noticing. It's easy to remove sugar and start running but your body won't just shred all fat instantly.
