i find different answers through out the board im trying to get facts to wether doing cardio on a empty stomach for a time of 30- 45 minutes burns body fat not mucsle. ive been doing it for 2 weeks now and i feel like im losing some mass, as well as the body fat.

It depends on what your doing for those 30-45 minutes. When you do cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach you should keep the intensity moderate. If your running or going crazy on a step mill or something then you will for surely lose some mass. If I do cardio in the morning empty I like to take in some BCAA's before hitting it to protect my muscle, and then I do incline walking at a moderate pace, heart rate around 120-125.

you are going to get a bunch of different answers, AM cardio, post workout cardio, BCAA protien shakes, blah blah... everyones going to give you different answers. i believe things are different for each person. your going to have to search through all the articles and make your own opinion on when and how. I think the REALLY important thing is that the cardio gets done, not when and how. everyones different.

fasted cardio seems to have fallen out of favor recently.
now the rage is HIT.
next year it will be telling everyone to only to do jazzercise on a completly full stomach of pasta.

Ahhh so we're going back to the 80's next year. LOL.... As far as cardio, it depends on your age. 50% of your max heart rate would be good for morning cardio. I only beleive in BCAA's when your doing HIT cardio in the morning, when the heart rate is up to high to utilize fat and switchs to glycogen and aminos.

I almost pissed myself reading this! :food:

I agree with everyone in the sense that you should be using bcaa before and during your AM fasted cardio. Purple Wraath is a very good product to go with.

I don't know that completely empty stomach is your best bet, but obviously you don't want to be full while your working out. So I would say maybe eat a small something, wait 30 min and then do your work out. And I would say AM is best, but for an energy reason. You feel great throughout your day if you pick up the energy in the morning...trust me!

the whole point of fasted cardio is to burn up your body's energy stores (fat) instead of the fuel you put into your tank (carbs).

do morning fasted cardio, down some BCAA's (XTEND or PURPLE WRAATH) before and during your session to prevent catabolism (muscle breakdown).

keep your intensity low to moderate (walking, lite jog, incline treadmill at a moderate pace, stationary bike, etc). to be sure your intensity isnt too high, find out what your optimal heart rate would be.

take 220 - (your age) =(max heart rate). usually between 40-50% of your max heart rate is where your body is usually almost primariy fat for energy.

or you could have a scoop of whey maybe 30 mins before your am cardio. ive had success with both whey before and bcaas pre/intra cardio.

good luck brotha!

I would recommend a large dose of leucine if you are doing fasted cardio. It is a ketogenic amino acid, meaning it won't raise blood glucose like isoleucine and valine, plus it signals the body to increase protein synthesis.
