Carb loading question

Smont

Legend
So my friend is a keto tard and scared of carbs, I was explaining its not the carbs that makes you fat and blah blah, so he asked me how many I eat and I told him 350ish per day. And he bet me I couldn't eat 1000gm of carbs so here I am.

Sunday I cut my carbs to 100, Monday 100, today 50, tomorrow 25 and Friday I'm going as close to zero as I can.

Saturday I'm carb loading 1000gm.

Any1 have experience with carb loading. I'd like to make some use of this and see how much I can fill out before I spill over.

Is it ok to eat somewhat normal with just a bunch of carbs, or do I limit protein and fat and just do carbs and water? I have to start a cut July 5th so I need to get this over with this weekend lol

Also should I do a couple high rep work outs that day to help or do I just do nothing and eat carbs

For me , preventing the spilling over is a few things.
Keep water lower than normal on the day you carb up as carbs store water
After each carb meal , check your physique and skin . How you look will dictate how much you need
A lot of people recommend glycogen depletion workouts beforehand but unless stepping on stage , just keep workouts normal. I actually prefer to utilize the added fuel the day of or after for some strength
Keep fats low and protein low-moderate.
nake sure you eat carbs that agree with your digestion
Don’t over do it or under do it

Btw, looking juicy in the new avatar
Thanks, I been dropping fat but somewhat maintaining weight or barely loosing weight and it's making me appear bigger and definitely more vascular. I would have thought cutting my carbs down the past few days would make me look flat but it's done the total opposite

personally I would meet minimum protein requirements and reduce fat……

on average a male can hold around 400g carbs in the muscle and liver so personally I’ve not seen the point myself in going over that really (from a performance standard). Anything over is more likely to simply be stored as fat best I know

Oh I completely know I'm going to spill over. I did some reading on carb load and it suggested 2-5gm per pound of bodyweight, so that's 500-1000, that has to be for a marathon runner or something lol.

I gotta eat 1000, that's the bet. But along the way I want to keep track so I know exactly where my spilling point is. I'm also toying with the idea of taking 25mg anadrol with every meal to see if I can store some extra but I'm not on a cycle, just trt and no plans of cycles till after October so idk if that idea is just stupid

I intentionally have to over do it. But along the way I want to find my tipping point for the future when I actually can make use of this

The part about the water is interesting, I had assumed I needed to drink extra water to help store the carbs

The way I carb load is during cut and you have to be depleted for that.usually a coach will give you a huge refeed after weeks / months or hard dieting. It’s also used a day before show for certain type of metabolisms to keep you full at show. Going lower carbs for 3-4 days isn’t gonna do **** broski... surely not enough for your body to be in a state ready to process 1000 grams of carbs.

So according to what I just read, the average 70kg or 154lb man can store up to 400 gm, the more you weight and the more muscle you Carry the more glycogen you can store. Also after carb depletion you raise the levels of some enzyme that allows for extra carb storage.

Now I'm by no means some giant jacked dude but I'm a heck of a lot bigger and more muscular then the average person used in the example provided. So I gotta assume the number is going to be closer to 600 before I spill over.

I thinking I should take pictures and make notes after every 150 gm? Or just constantly through the day. Lol. In all honesty I'm just super happy to eat carbs all day. Low carb high fat makes me tired and messes with my stomach and I can't wait for it to end

I don't know if you guys are reading my opening post.

I'm well aware that I'm not going to store 1000gm of carbs and that I will spill and be bloated.

I'm doing this for the main reason that my buddy seems to think you can't eat 1000gm of carbs in a day which we all know you can, and my secondary reason is that along the way I want to see where my tipping point is. 400, 600, 725 whatever it my be, I want to make note of where I look full vs. A mess.

Even if I'm not in position to see that o well it's not the main reason I'm doing this.

The reasons behind my questions is just to see how I should go about getting these carbs down in the least destructive way

Listen, when I quit drinking and partying a few years back, I ran out of stuff to do for fun. Stupid bets and self experiments are all I have to entertain myself these days lol

You want some water , but not your usual amounts. It increases the chance of spilling over. I agree with @Mathb33 1000 is a ton dude. You have to feel it out during the day. Coaches will check on their clients frequently during the process

Typically I drink 1 gallon of straight water, 3-4 cups of coffee, 20oz fluid in my shake and another 20-32 oz water intra workout. So easily 1.5 gallons of fluids.

What you think for the day, maybe 1/3 of that?

go 1/2 gallon, keep the coffee in, though And depending on how much you sweat 15-20 oz intra workout

Sounds good I'm going to run with that, I sweat a lot during work but not terrible in the gym unless the AC is out which happens from time to time. Il adjust based on how much I'm sweating through the day. Hopefully I can get someone to snap pictures every 150-200 gm or so. I'm definitely gonna take pictures of all the meals. I tend to digest all carbs pretty well, rice, pasta and white and rye bread all go down easy for me. Whate potatoes I do ok, sweet potato, oats, brown rice all make me a little bloated and give me a little trouble in comparison to the previous stuff mentioned

So, what do you win at the end of the bet?
More food lol.

There's a new oyster bar in town, loser pays the tab when we go check out the raw bar. So taking pictures of all the food is a must but he's going to be working with me half that day so he will probably be with me during 3 of my meals

Is this simply a challenge? I don’t understand. Because if it’s a challenge eat 1000g of non clean carbs itll be extremely easy and you’ll win your bet. if you’re trying to show him carbs are good and what’s a refeed then this is not the way

Nice! Definitely worth it my book. That stuff ain’t cheap.

Awesome man, keep this log updated

stick with carbs you digest best and since it’s just a day, consider fruity pebbles or rice cereal. They digest like nothing and easy to pound .

Lol I just said it in my last post.

He doesn't seem to think anyone can eat 1000gm of carbs in a day. Which is rediculous, it's easy. Because he is on a keto kick and knows nothing about nutrition or performance he thinks 300gm is a rediculous amount of carbs.

I'm gonna eat 1000gm, take pictures of the food and then he has to pay my tab when we go to the raw bar a couple days later.

During the process of eating the 1000 carbs I'm going to keep track of how I feel and look every so many grams

Subbed for the experiment lol

Word to the wise, I once participated in a Brazilian steakhouse "All the Meat You Can Eat Competition" and I focused on gradually increasing my food consumption over a period of two weeks. I was lifting 4-5 times a week and riding my bike about 3 times a week, usually 10-15 miles twice during the week and then a long ride on the weekends of anywhere from 20-45 miles. So my metabolism was on fire and I was eating all the time.

I was roughly somewhere around 3,000 calories a day when I was two weeks out and basically added 100 calories a day or so.Then the day before the competition, I ate a very small breakfast, lunch and dinner. Basically 1,000 calories for the entire day. And then the morning of the competition, I went on a 3-hour bike ride... it was a freaking hammer fest, 50 miles of super flat terrain and we were riding with guys that raced on the local level, so I had to guzzle probably a dozen gels just to finish.

But the point is, by reducing my calories the day before, then exerting myself the morning off, I had a hunger like I've never felt before. Once the ride was complete, I guzzled a scoop of whey and two scoops of Hammer Nutrition's Recoverite, like 80g of carbs of something around noon. Then I sipped on water until 6:00 pm when we met for dinner. I was ferociously hungry. We weighed each other before we stepped into the restaurant, took notes, and then went in and crushed. I walked out a champion with 7.7 lbs of food consumed in like 2.5 hours.

So I know our principals are different in terms of prep, but maybe you consider doing something physically taxing the morning of the day you try and consumer 1000g of carbs? Like go walk a half marathon or something. Pushing yourself like that will no doubt increase hunger and allow you to crush food at an unprecedented rate. Plus, it may reduce fat storage too?

A few years back he bet me I couldn't eat 2lbs of pork belly. For those of you who don't know what that is it's basically a giant slab of extra fatty bacon. Came out to 8,000 calories the way it was prepared.

I powered through 1.75lbs in 9 min and then completely hit the wall. Few hours later I puked up pure fat, had a 2 day hangover type thing and couldn't look at pork for weeks .

This should be a cake walk lol

Will do, if I get in a pinch my son has every flavor of Rahman noodles in the cabinet. I can put those down like no1s business lol

As you are NOT doing this to fill up for a contest or photoshoot or anything i would absolutely not drop the water or worry about spilling over. All those carbs without adequate water will dehydrate you to the point where you possible will feel like **** for days. If you want to really utilize as much of the carbs as possible id say keep the water intake high, but just make sure its not so high that it dilutes your stomach acid.

Id also put some extra emphasis to the whole digestion part. So you know, chew your food, sit down and relax while eating to allow your parasympathetic nerve system to really kick in. Maybe use some digestive enzymes and/or GDAs to aid and dont drink too much while eating. Get your fluids like 1 hour before/after meals instead. Adding 10 minute brisk walks after each meal is also a nice way of aiding digestion.

Doing it "clean" will be alot harder than eating just whatever you want. All the extra fiber etc from the cleaner carbs can make it a hell of a lot harder on your digestion and well being as well. So easy digestible carb sources like rice, cream of rice etc can be your friend, but the amount youd need to eat would make it rough. So a good combination of those and treats would be my recommandation.

Id actually go for a Skip Loading approach now that i think about it. I did that when i was coached by Ken "Skip" Hill back in the days and i could demolish 1000g carbs like it was nothing 2 days in a row if needed. I remember carbing up for my show on waffles haha, it was so good.

Just curious, when you get your refeed what's your menu for the day typically look like
My coach usually doesn’t give me refeed often because the only two cuts we did together were cuts to 9-10% to bring the fat down to go back in bulk. He usually will give me 2 refeeds in line those 10-12 weeks mini cuts. Usually it’ll be around twice the calories I’m at during this period of time. So 4000-4500 were the range of my refeeds. Lower fats that day (and I’m already not a high fat guy) and higher carbs obviously. He would usually lower my carbs to 160-170g for my meats which are usually 200g and would up the carbs accordingly. All clean though, but this includes a meal with cereals post cycle. One time he allowed me a dirty refeed day but it was according to my metabolism and just testing things/ my body for upcoming prep for my show. Edit : he’s got another of his guy who he put for the WHOLE cut on a lower cals during the whole week and say Sunday he’ll have a big clean refeed. He’ll keep slowly lowering cals for the week and usually the 1 refeed a week will change too. I guess the optimal way is different for everybody. He won’t have me on this type of diet for exemple.

Got this recipe from a buddy at the gym today. He uses this for breakfast or post workout on his high carb days

It's basically liquid egg white, powdered dextrose and cinnamon all mixed together and he makes a boatload of french toast with it. The measurements he gave me gives you about 30gm protein and 150gm of carbs, he said add a scoop of protein powder to the batter if you want more protein

The skipload article was a good read. I listen to the podcast this guy is always on and he mentioned skiploads every once in a while but I've never really seen a detailed layout

Haha yeah "anabolic french toast" is absolutely a nice way to get those carbs in. Make sure to use some basic ass white bread so it soaks as much of the liquid up as possible.

Awesome! Glad you found it interesting. You gotta keep us updated on how it goes.

Are you posting pics of each “meal?”
Sure I can do that. I will be working early in the day but il snap pictures all day long and post everything up that afternoon and continue till I stop eating. I'm also gonna track my weight,
How full I look, increases in vascularity ect. So next time around I know how to find my cutoff point on a carb load

Heck yes man!!! Maybe the rest of us will have a huge carb up in your honor that day?? Whose with me?

This is what I got at the house for shitty simple carbs, any other suggestions or should this cut it.
I also have regular jasmine rice, potatoes and sweet potato, bagels and pita bread, rice crispies and Coco puffs

Isn’t dextrose basically just sugar?

Isn’t dextrose basically just sugar?
No, I mean there both types of sugar but there different. Not the same as regular table suger. Dextrose is good for intra and post workout if you don't get bloated or stomach achs from it. A better option would be branched cyclic dextrin

Does it have more carbs than something like powdered sugar or is the main difference really just how fast it spikes your blood sugar?

I believe regular sugar is half fructose which doesn't store as glycogen in muscle, it stores more in the liver. Dextrose is extremely fast digesting and all of it can store in the muscle, it's closer to already being glucose if I'm not mistaken

Dextrose is also a good way to increase amylase and saliva production, making it again easier to get down more food. I know Stan Efferding did that with his biggest clients. Sprinkled some dextrose on their rice just to make it easier for them to get the amounts needed down.

So my first 3 pieces of french toast kinda burned, the stuck to the pan almost on contact, I think I need a couple new pans, anyway I ate the first 3 burnt pieces and have a idea.im going to try baking them in Pyrex dishes. I got 2 different flavors going. One I'd cookies and cream the other is cinnamon banana

There edible tho. Between this and the 3 I already ate it's about 150gm of carbs
