Hey there people. I have had a problem with my 03 Sonata for a little while. The air-bag light has been on. Now to get it inspected it has to be off. I called the dealer and it is $89.99 just for the diag. The local mechanic can't do it for some reason it has to be the dealer. Anyway I asked him why would it go on. He told me a few reasons and one was that the connector comes lose under the passenger seat. So now I am thinking, hey I can just take a look. Why couldn't I fix this myself?. Does anyone here have any experience with this?. Can anyone help me?. Thanks!.
 
Yea fix it yourself. Try googling around for your car's manual or maybe post for help on a sonata forum.
 
I don't touch any of the internal workings of my cars. I have the absolute worst luck with that sorta thing. Anything I try to fix will instantly become worse and cost me 3x's more than if I'd taken it in in the first place. Works the same for stuff around the house too.

I just read on a sonata form that it is the drivers seat and that a flashlight or whatever could roll and hit the switch or connector causing it to come on. I just wonder what this switch looks like and is it reachable, or do you need a special tool to get to it?. I am gonna take a look but I doubt I will find it since I don't know what I am even looking for. The thing is on the forum they said you must bring it to the dealer because thats the only way you will get it turned off. I can fix a computer no problem. A car, well that is a different story. This seems like a problem that is more for the dealer than anyone elese though. $89.99 just for a diagnosis though, isn't that a rip off?. Damn car dealers rape you, thats why I ususally stick to my regular mechanic!. I haven't really had a bad problems with this car. Just problems with the belts, and this, but thats about it. It has around 65,000 miles on it. I don't know I heard these were good cars...
 
Maybe the dealer has to do it because its an airbag problem, a major safety feature. I wouldnt try fix it myself, I just had me and a couple mates install a system in my car and everything screwed up abit, door handles are a little loose, heater has stopped working, rear window stutters on the way up.
Hyundais arnt good cars, there korean made, the only good cars are european and japanese.
 
I'm not gonna really get into it myself. I'll just look under the seat and if I can see anything obvious like a connector thats come loose, I will put it together if I can. I somehow doubt it will be easy to spot though because its under the seat...Still paying this damn car off. I should have got a Toyota.
