Can't watch videos

Lately, everytime I try to watch a video it only plays the first three seconds of it then stops no matter what video player. If i click further ahead in the video it goes to that point and plays another three seconds. I don't think I changed any settings or downloaded anything new lately so I dont know whats causing it. It's all videos. Anyone have an idea to help?
 
you need to close all programs and run a virus scan. i have that same problem and what i just said to do fixes it everytime. and remember to close everything first, it doesn't seem to work if the internet is still on.
 
First off are you running IE or Mozilla, and which version.

Also, what type of video sites are you experiencing this on? Youtube?

Odds are it is a codec/flash problem

edit: i just read the last line. Does this occur in videos in your browser, or in other stand alone video players such as iTunes, windows media player, DivX, winamp?...

It occurs in browsers, windows media, and sometimes can't pla songs in limeiwre/itunes
 
also, what did your virus scan find? As in the name of the virus if you don't mind. I'm always interested in knowing what caused the problem, then what solved it.
 
My virus scanner is Norton, and it only picked up a tracking cookie. I don't know if that was the problem but I ran it and it worked after I restarted my computer.
