Can I overtrain calves?

Here's my theory, I have very skinny calves and never really got them to grow much in the past. I would train them once a week. I'm thinking now I should train them every workout which is every other day. I see the road bikers who have great calves and some of these guys ride 60 miles a day. Make sense? I have been doing varied workouts on them each time also. One day I will go heavy, next time more volume less weight and I even do the 100 rep routine. I know I wont get huge calves due to my genetics but hell I at least want them to look like I workout.

You can try it. Some people say low volume heavy weight, some people swear by heavy volume. Just make sure you stretch them well and take a week off from training them every 4-6 weeks if you're going for 3-4x a week training them.

I will do that. I'm gonna do a different workout every time also.

I have sorry ass calves also, I started training them twice a week (tues &thurs), 1 day heavy weight/low reps, 1 day light weight/high reps. I really have seen some improvement since I started doing this. Like you said, I know my calves will never be huge, but they're getting better.

I have been treating my calves and abs the same. I work them out 4-5 x week with very mild soreness. My calves recover very quick. I do 3x20 on the incline leg press machine.

Essentially you can overtrain anything. I would take a couple days a week and do some really high volume for them, and have a couple days after each to recover. Been doing high volume for calves for 2 months now(twice a week) with widows at the end as well as DC stretches. I love my calves now..

You can work your calves everyday if you want.... I used to do it during basketball season, 100 calf raises a night on my steps each leg...thats how a 6 ft tall white boy can dunk!!!!

I train them almost everyday. Use heavy weight as well as high volume on Calf Raise. I found some benefit from doing calf raises on the leg press with heavy weight and really holding the weight on the press. Then getting up and doing toe raises until failure.

i am so addicted to calves now. i hit them on leg day and on back day. i do them first so that way i don't cheat them. without a doubt i am getting results. they have grown from 15 7/8 to 16 1/2 in exactly 2 months. i measure them on the 2nd of each month in the morning cold flexed. i usually do standing smith, donkey, and seated. i go heavy as i can to failure, then superset into standing raises and flex at top for 3 seconds till failure. they will burn like a bit#h! now i just got to get them over the 17 inch hump

i feel ya bro... i am now coming in on my day off and hitting up some more calve to try and train them 2x a week.. been doing it bout 6 week starting to see great improvement

im a soccer player and my calves have been one of my strong points through life...god do i love that burning feeling
