Caffeine Tolerance..ways to lower quickly

Hey

I'm assuming there aren't any special tricks but you guys have certainly been around the block and many of you are stim junkies as well. I'm guilty of it and I think I'm finally at a point I need a break. I've had this eye twitch for weeks and apparently it can be a symptom of caffeine abuse.

So my question is are there any tips to help lower tolerance quicker? A way to flush it out of your system?

Any tips are appreciated

Thanks

Nothing but going cold turkey or switching to maybe perhaps DMAA as your main stim source. Not sure if that would help the eye twitch though.

Ya I'm thinking a little stim break is needed. Hopefully the twitch goes away....plus I'd love to get that feeling back of actually getting a rush. I know it doesn't last long and the tolerance seems to build up faster every time. What I really need to do is to take a couple months off of stims but nobody wants to that!! Lol

Bro, it's a hard commitment to make. I remember when I left for boot camp, I was a caffeine addict, taking in about a gram a day. I went through the worst withdrawals that lasted weeks. Best of luck to you!

There's no "magic bullet" to reset or drastically reduce your caffeine tolerance. The best way to lower your tolerance is to take some time off using caffeine. Depending on how much caffeine you're currently using, and what your lifestyle and day-to-day activities look like, it may be better to lower your caffeine tolerance until you can take a real break as opposed to cutting it cold turkey; perhaps you have a lot of work now, and there's a time in the near future where you'll have a less demanding schedule (maybe a vacation or slower time at work, etc) where you don't "need" as much caffeine to perform well and get your job(s) done.

What does your daily caffeine intake look like?

One thing you could look into is nootropics. They're not "stimulants," but they can provide you with nice mental energy and focus, which can help you when you're taking less caffeine. Things like choline (CDP-Choline, Alpha-GPC, choline bitartrate), huperzine-A, Noopepet/racetams, etc are all common and effective options.

Adaptogens could also help, as they can improve how your body handles stress. Rhodiola rosea is a good one to consider, and can help with fatigue. Ashwagandha is another good one, but isn't something that's really going to give you energy, but it may help you feel better overall when you're reducing and/or taking a break from your caffeine intake.

I suppose before we go any farther, it's good to know what your caffeine intake looks like? How much caffeine per day? How/when do you take it? How long have you been taking this dose for? Etc.

Good idea on switching to Nootropics, noopept gives a great mental boost/stimulation.

I've been a user of nootropics since I can only have small amounts of caffeine due to bp issues. Choline and noopept are two of my favorites. SNS has a good amount of different ones to choose from depending on what works best for you.

SNS also has a caffeine-free Focus XT. Very good product! And tastes really good!

All great responses here but after a heavy stim run normally 8-12weeks of high caffeine + DMAA PWO I normally take a month off all stims and run a bottle of adreosurge to help with any symptoms ect :) nootropics are the next best things to stims I'd say though

Thanks for a great response. So first my caffeine intake. I haven't taken a consistent break for close to a year now. I take a pwo pretty much every time I go to the gym and they range from 150mg up to some mixes that have probably been 400+. That would be taken 4-5 days per week. For the last 2-3 weeks I've had a couple fat burners that were in the 300-400mg range and some days I'd also take a preworkout at a different time in the day.

I have tried some nootropics in the past and seen ok results. My concerns are the long term effects. I haven't spent the time to truly read up on all the research. Can the brain become dependent and if usage stops will brain function suffer?

I'd say just do a two week break and while your on your break you can always do a non stim pre. That's what i'll do, is i'll supplement in High Volume when i take a break from stims.

Yep that's the plan. My 3rd child is coming this week so I'll miss a couple days just being busy with the birth. I have a few book ingredients so I can mix my own for a bit

I predominately use a nonstim pre. I still drink coffee and rarely a monster for work (like today) but not often I use stims. Strength is steadily increasing.

Switch to the cheap stuff listed above like L-Tyrosine, Choline Bitartrate, I think DMAE is cheap too. And hey - Ephedrine docks in a different receptor :D

And once you re-start use, you can use Rutaecarpine to clear it from your system quickly, every day - if you want. No idea how this would relate to re-building a tolerance, but one would think it would allow you to stay "on" longer. This WILL NOT clear the receptors any faster though - only time can do that.

7.1. Caffeine

When rutaecarpine (active indole in Evodia) is fed to rats, the AUC and Cmax values of caffeine are significantly reduced; meaning rutaecarpine can reduce the exposure of caffeine to the body.[66][67] This also extends to the similar xanthine compound theophylline.[68] These effects extend to consumption of Evodia itself, and combination decoctions such as Wu Zhu Yu Tang.[67]

This effect is rather significant; pretreatment of 80mg/kg oral Rutaecarpine daily for 3 days (a high dose, but its bioavailability is unaugmented) in rats reduced the Cmax to 31% of the control group, the Tmax to 22%, the AUC to 5% of control, and reduced the half-life from 0.73+/-0.07 hours to 0.27+/-0.1 hours.[66] Similar trends were seen for all metabolites of caffeine (paraxanthine, theophylline, theobromine)

Rutaecarpine is able to induce (increase) activity of various hepatic enzymes such as CYP1A2, CYP2B, and CYP2E1;[28][69] CYP2E1 induction is seen at 80mg/kg oral ingestion in rats while only 20mg/kg is needed for CYP1A2.[67] As caffeine is highly metabolized by CYP1A and CYP2E1, their increased activity causes greater metabolism of caffeine in a shorter time frame and thus limits systemic exposure.

Rutaecarpine appears to potently suppress the circulating levels of caffeine via increasing hepatic and intestinal degradation; a highly antagonistic compound

Ya it makes sense. I've gone for a while now where I haven't felt any effect from the stims anyways. I'd assume it's probably better for the body to avoid them if possible. Then when I do have that workout I need them I will actually get the boost!

I second this response. I had abused caffeine for a little while and knew it was time for a break so I went with 2-3g L-Tyrosine, 300-600mg alpha-GPC and 2g of ALCAR about 90 minutes preworkout (make sure to consume while fasted). Made for a nice focused feeling - no rush or jitters but no yawning or being distracted which is all I need.

Well made up a little batch with stuff I had around looked like
-2g ALCAR
-2g Beta Alanine
-1g Agmatine
-2g Taurine
-2g Betaine anyhydrous
-6g Citrulline Malate
-1g Choline Bitarte
-50mg Caffeine just to do a day or two with a very low dose to possibly limit the headaches or whatever other symptoms.
-mixed in with Nutrabolics Carnabolic 1 scoop

I still got in a decent workout but it just wasn't the same. Honestly some of it is probably just in my head lol

I like using a non stim pre workout, either VasoMax or High Volume, and add some bulk nootropics to it. I personally like ALCAR, Alpha GPC, Tyrosine and Hup A.

In the future, why not limit your caffeine intake per week? I thought I was naturally stim tolerant, but I was consuming too much caffeine and stims. Now, I limit my caffeine, based on weeks, and I do not have to take prolonged stim breaks and a small amount of caffeine is good for me now.

If you would like for me to layout my protocol, just ask.

Just reduce how many MGs per day you're ingesting. Going cold turkey is punishment and will only slightly reduce your sensitivity. Just skip a serving of coffee/pre workout, whatever you're doing and have some green tea instead. Then, save your caffeine for times u need it most.

Tempting option. I don't drink pop or coffee so supplements are the only place I get caffeine

Best option is dropping dose by 50-75% and slowly keep lowering so no negative issues take place since you have been dosing for so long as a high dose. A full week or two off will be enough.

I think this is what works best for me. For example I'll go from four to two cups of coffee, or try to only drink half of a cup and then mid morning heat it up and drink the rest, basically stretching one into two cups. I've also gone cold turkey many times. Usually by the eight day the headaches start to subside but f$&k the first couple days are unbearable.... Once I make it to about eight days I usually can make it by with one cup a day. Half in the am and half in the afternoon.

I always just go cold turkey for a solid week. Personally don't experience any negative effects such as headaches.

Well these first 2 days I've went down to only 50mg per day and other than just not having the same energy level which is obvious. I really haven't felt too bad. I think I'll do one more day at 50 then probably go zero for maybe a week
