buying dress shirts

The True Warrior is one who conquers oneself
I know most of us probably have this problem, but I think us short guys have it worse.

Do you find it hard getting dress shirts that actually fit right?

I know when i get them, since i am slightly bigger then most my height (5'7"ish)....they tend to be like really wide, and all bulky and **** at the bottom when i tuck it in.

ANyone have this problem? What do you guys do about it?

Can they taylor shirts to like make them more slim fitting?

i only buy athletic cut dress shirts .. although they still don't fit that well they are a lot better than standard cuts

its hard when your neck is only 10 inches smaller than your waist lol

haha seriously, the thing that sucks is most dress shirts I see never have athletic or slim cut or whatever else they call it.

i must retuck my shirt 20 times a day at work..I hate it when it puffs out a lot....It makes me look like my waist is 40 inches BIGGER then my neck..lol...

what brands do you find that have the most athletic cut styles?

I'm still wondering if you can like get a shirt "taken in" like you can for pants..

If you have an Express store, their 1MX shirts are fitting in the middle, they also have some form fitting dress shirts there other than that make as well. Not only short guys have that problem, I'm 6'7" and have to wear XXL sometimes to fit my arm length and usually the waist is too big, but Express makes some nice looking fitted shirts just for that problem.

I only buy Geoffery Bean dress shirts. There athletic cut fits me well and they are regularly available at the store

Bump on Express. They are pretty expensive, but they have nice shirts that are athletic cut. You can also get the shirts tailored. I've done that with a few. I think this shirt issue exists b/c so many Americans are so fat. Why else would they make the waist on these shirts so friggin' huge. I look like I'm fat if I tuck my shirt in and I have a 32" waist.

Invalid Link Removed - Certainly not the cheapest but another option. perfect sizes as you pick all the measurements.

I'm just glad to see that I am not alone here. I've bought smaller shirts to were out to the clubs and roll the sleeves because they don't reach my wrists.

Bump on the Express and Geoffrey Beene. Express is expensive and way metro, but if you can catch them early on a bin sale, depending on your size, you can find awesome deals. Also, if there is a K&G Men's Mart close to you, they have great prices on dress clothes. I used to do all of my shopping there when I was in sales. Best price on Kenneth Cole shoes you will ever see.

I buy Van Huessen and get the shirts that say XXXL with a 20" neck...they fit descently around the shoulders/arms, but I still can't button the top button. So when I have to wear a tie, I have to try and pull the tie up all the time in order to try and hide the open button/collar...I've actually gotten written up for it at my last job...but they were assholes anyways...lol. I also have to tuck my shirt in 20 some times/day as well...I've yet to find any other kind of shirt that fits better. If you're on the east coast, Boscov's usually carries the above shirts.

Have them custom made. You could have your current shirts tailored but after money spent I think you would be better off having the shirts made specifically for you. Admittedly though, this may be cost prohibiting for some.

I agree that Express has a decent dress shirt. Its cool for me when i am below 240, but anything bigger no way !!! My wife pokes fun at me saying i look like Bruce Banner before he completly changes to the Hulk. As for the designers DKNY XL, Polo RalpH Lauren 2XXL, Old Navy for solid colors XL works ok. But i might not be as big as others.

I hear you dude. I have no neck to begin with. So, most shirts I have to button to the top have to be tailored because I have to purchase large necks and arms. If not, it looks like I'm wearing a blanket. I have found that some store brands offer "Slim Fit" or "Vintage Fit" style shirts. I have purchased many of these and they fit much better, and look good on people who are in shape. However, the length can be a bit long if your torso is shorter.

hahaha damn..this is turning into a support group..funny ****

anyway..yeah i dig express, but I have a wrinkled shirt complex, and the only 4 shirts i've bought from express (structure) get wrinkly as hell..like i iron that ****, put it on and its immediately wrinkly....I dunno..

how much is getting custom made shirts...i thought about that, but figured it was only for like tony soprano or other gumbas with loot.....(no offence to the guidos..lol)....

this shits funny....its one of the drawbacks to actually not being the standard fat american....

that made me laugh man...too funny....the shirts I just bought are so tight on my neck if they even reach that far..luckily my new better job that i have now I don't have to wear ties, so i started buying like 15" necks and **** hoping they would fit better...but they don't really

custom shirts look very nice and tend to cost $60-$200/shirt.

funny, just got back from the mall doing some shopping for dress shirts

most brands have a "slim/modern/fitted" style, you have to go with that, and you MUST always try it on cause a lot of times the fitted shirts are barely any different than the regular baloon shirts.

As mentioned above, Geoffrey beane fitted shirts work well, as well as CK slim fit shirts, though they're quite hard to find.
