i usually use this in my oatmeal, usually 10 grams (about 2 tbs). is this good to do or should i be using natural maple syrup or like honey?

Are you specifically looking for the high GI for an insulin spike? Otherwise how about cinnamon, adds flavor WITHOUT extra cals...

well i dont think so little would hurt me. and its usually with my AP so the mixture of simple/complex is still like 5-10grams of simple and about 50-70 or complex.

I know Splenda makes a brown sugar/sucralose blend that has slightly less calories than regular brown sugar.

still mostly just empty cals (and ultra-high on the GI)

if you want the sweet & some actual nutrients, try molasses - which is what they pull out of the cane juice to make cane sugar (they make brown sugar by adding molasses back in w/ the "refined" sugar).

As others have mentioned you can use artificial sweeteners in place. If you do not like the taste as many don't you can try other things like bodywizard mentioned such as blackstrap molasses or honey, they both have less cals and both contain nutrients compared to sugar. You could add a tbls or 2 in with some cinnamon too for taste and health benefits.

I don't know how many cals are in that amount of brown sugar but if its nothing serious and your bulking then i don't see why not. If you enjoy it that should be fine...look into maybe some no calorie sweeteners but if they don't cut it in the long run i don't see a large problem

I use peanut butter to add some flavor to my morning oatmeal.

Gives it great flavor and some extra protein & good calories.

Sugars are almost never a good choice in general, especially if your trying to stay lean and mean or lose weight.
