Beta BCAAs Build A Better Hyde

If you don't lift heavy and have any serious back stuff you're working around, I'd say you'd be fine without one. If you're trying to pull or squat a true 1RM I'd say you're leaving weight on the floor that could be on the bar.

Mother. Effin'. Cube.

So today begins another Cube Kingpin cycle to get ready for competition on March 28th here in St. Louis. Back to training in the dungeon and pushing through hell. Thought I was gonna toss my lunch or pass out a couple times tonight.

By the end I was just chugging my BCAAs between every set, trying to remind myself that there's some chick on the Chinese Oly team that's probably warming up with my weights somewhere.

LMAO! Every time I feel tire I remind myself that Kim Valentine is still lifting more than me.

Dimmel DL?

Rest Day today.

Dimmel DL?

Named after some lifter named Matt Dimmel; his squat was stuck forever in the low 800s and he started doing these and it took him over the 1,000 mark in under 2 years. Teaches the glutes to fire better. Literally they're just ballistic speed RDL's, done for high reps (20 is the number you always here) with a focus on crushing a beer can between your buttcheeks every rep. Push the butt back like an RDL and let the bar drop below the knee, then squeeze it up as forcefully as possible with no rest between reps. Bands are useful here because they also force you to be fast.

I tend to lean back after the bar clears my knees and want to ramp/hitch my deadlifts when it gets heavy, and I'm extremely strong off the floor, so I dropped the normal deficit work this go around to try to fix my technique.

Today I did the 2 scoops intra 55-60oz, and man it really kept me going - just kept pounding it back, and ended up being able to get a whole extra accessory in I had so much stamina. Also feeling pretty recovered from Monday already - only my erectors were still stiff today.

Wk1, Repetition Benchpress

Comp Grip Bench
-135x5
-195x10x3 sets

CGBP
-205x8x2 sets

Pause Off 2-board
-185x12, 12, 11

-205x10
-225x8x3 sets

Widegrip Seated Cable Row (Bench Pattern)

BW Dips
-16
-13
-12
-11

HS Incline Press
-90/side x8x4 sets
-ds last set 45/side x13 rest/pause

The bar was moving reeeeally fast on the 2-board pause bench; I was really getting my lats to tighten and fire tonight. Just started trying to bench with my feet flat (majority of people I know that are really good benchers seem to use the entire foot, so trying it out). Already starting to like it.

How much are you totalling right now brother?

Do you use Bench Bloks or a partner with boards?

BIG UPRIGHT ROW NUMBERS. I love it. You've inspired me to try and upright row 225.

I power clean 225 for fun but I mean an upright row?

How much are you totalling right now brother?

Totaled 1,350 (485/295/570) without wraps 2 & a half weeks ago at a mock meet we held to test at the end of our training cycle. Took 4 hours or so, back to back to back. Did 1,328 at a USPA meet on cycle October 13th or something.

Do you use Bench Bloks or a partner with boards?

Buddy with Bench Bloks was around so we used those, otherwise I would have just paused in the air. I tried to maintain tightness on the block, rather than relaxing, like you'd perform a boxsquat. And obv no bouncing.

Hold on lol you're upright rowing 225? Geez

My bad! No no I meant barbell rows done very upright, hitting the very upper back and traps primarily (i.e., douchebag rows). Normally I lean over nearly parallel with the floor when I do BB rows, but these were intentionally more erect to get more weight on the bar.

I did a high pull single past the nipple a few times with 215 lol, but that's about it as far as standing upright.

Everything was beltless, except the second 320 set on SSB. These were heavy as sh*t; was supposed to be using 70% for 2x5. Unfortunately 320 on SSB for a triple is tougher than 375 high-bar for a triple lol, so I had to back the weight down.

Wk 1, Explosive Squat

Comp Stance Squat (short rest)
-Barx10
-135x8
-225x5
-300x3x8 sets

SSB
-320x3, 3, 1
-265x5

Pause Squat (midway up)
-245x8x2 sets

Reverse Hyper
-120x12x4 sets

Lying Leg Curl
-15, 13, 9 increasing weight

Back Extension w/ Rear DB Flys at top
-17.5's x15x4 sets

So. Freakin'. Bushed. My shirt was totally soaked through. I actually finished my 60oz of Beta before I finished my workout. The pause squats moved REALLY good though, so that's encouraging.

oh okay. that makes more sense. I was like goddamn. Im still gonna try to upright row 225. I can bent over row 275 like 9 times now and last time I checked I was doing upright rows with 185 like 5 or 6 times slight cheating.

I wouldn't recommend it personally.

Upright rows are one of those exercises that usually aren't worth pushing the weight on, too much risk for too little reward.

You mean people at your gym don't care how much you can calf raise??? Surely how much you hammer curl matters...or at least side laterals....

Oh wait... nobody keeps records of those :slap: #powerliftingpriorities

Tonight is rest, gotta get up early tomorrow for a day trip w/ the lady. Should be hitting upper body accessory in the evening if everything goes right.

There's never anybody in my gym but me, so.....

Had to wake up early yesterday for a lil day trip up state. Gf had a performance and then we had a big italian lunch and stopped at a coffee shop after. Visited a buddy for a few hours and then got back home in time to go to dinner with her mom. Mixed a big container of BCAAs and stayed anabolic ALL DAY! Watched The Interview last night on Netflix - hilarious.

Today was:

Good session Hyde.

"Can I get you a coffee sir?"

"No thanks I've got branch chains."

You don't like Guatemala beans? One of my favorite.

You're incline Db pressing is strong hyde. You getting pumped to do another meet yet?!

nice ohp bro

Congrats on the OHP PR! Killer volume in here.

Jamaican and Guatemalan beans are my favorites as well.

Strong OHP PR.

When I was in Costa Rica their coffee was fantastic!

Idk if it's too acidic or what, but it's one of the few types (besides anything that's very light roasted) I don't enjoy for some reason. Just way too sour.

I do the inclines just barely, like Montego - much easier on the shoulders, more transfer to my flat, lets me use a tad more weight. Just a small variation really. Yeah I'm definitely in meet-prep mode at this point. Ready to squat 500 without wraps, and bench 300.

Thanks fellas. Think I'm gonna try to go to 155 for all my sets of 8 this coming week; it felt stronger supersetting with the pullups. More rest and an antagonist stretch in between.

When I was in Costa Rica their coffee was fantastic!

Costa Rican stuff (what I've had brought back from there) was some of the best I've ever enjoyed.

Jamaican blue mountain coffee ... delicious

That sounds awesome....will have to try to find some of that.

Done. Throat has been hurting the last few mornings upon waking, getting worse. Sinus drainage has been picking up today and just feeling crappy. Sinus headache started mid blockpulls and I just had to pack it up after the primary work and cut my losses. The weight moved really fast, I just didn't have the endurance and know pushing is going to make me worse.

Prob run some ECA tomorrow to try to keep the drainage moving.

Realized my BCAAs are running really low :(

Sad day when those BCAA's run out.

Yeah pretty much a straight set with a few resets. They freaking flew.

That's how the creeping crud started for me as well! Airborne will help.

Me, too. Never thought about taking EC tho. The sinus drainage stopped pretty quick tho.

Well the ECA definitely helped this morning (and the extra sleep); woke with my right nostril shut down but it opened up about 25 min after popping the Methyldrene. There's a lil yohimbe in there as well so that's always interesting, but worth it for sure (I'm allergic to yohimbe).

Felt so good went in for some lat & ham/hip work tonight. If I bench tomorrow on schedule it will be sans lat work, or I'll wait til thursday. Feeling VERY recovered - very little soreness these last 2 wks since starting the Beta BCAAs.

Just kept working up on squat til the barspeed died on 375. Didn't want to keep going up and get into 90+% and the fatigue debt associated with that - this was an accessory workout, after all. This was really enjoyable, and I needed to just train for fun for a day.

Quite a bit of volume on those deads. Where'd you fit in the burpees?

Bicep tendonitis was being stupid so couldn't really put any volume into the accessories (every rep was pushing it). All the benching was so easy, added the last set of 2-board pauses for giggles. Moved way faster than I anticipated.

Tonight I used my last scoop of the BCAAs :( Mixed the lone scoop with another brand's blueberry flavor (1 scoop also) and 50g of glacier freeze Gatorade powder. This was the first & only time I've tried the Beta with anything else this log. The result? Still mixed excellent and perfectly complimented the flavors.

So for anyone who uses other products stacked intra, you won't go wrong with Finaflex's fruit punch in a stack.

Is there a place I can see the Finaflex scoring system so I can make my review covering all the points you guys would like me to?
