Best Probiotic

saccaromyces can be found cheap indeed vs your typical probiotic, for that reason alone not colonizing is moot point for me personally as its affordable to be ran as a staple. With that in mind, what your opinion on its use for general gut health vs only situationally? i realize it obviously has data for specific use but sometimes thats just emphasizes the focus/target audience vs big picture type benefits if that makes sense.

Yeah, I actually love the fact that it doesn't colonize, it's a plus for me! That makes it ideally suited for daily use IMO. I like my intestinal flora like i like my women - low maintenance and no commitment (lol, j/k). I just don't have any condition that requires daily use so I don't use it daily.

Bottom line is I like the boulardii, but cerevisiae (1026) is the one that's been most impressive. I mean, we're talking hours and the whole situation is gone, like it never happened! I stack it with some fermentate like Epicor or Bio-MOS (Mannose oligosaccharide) and a little high d-Mannitol Cordyceps and it works like Manna from heaven (no pun intended, but it does make me wonder, lol.)

I've never found a pro-biotic that could put the breaks on Clidamycin or Doxy related colitis like that. Nothing. No drug, no chemical, Metro, Cholestyramine, nothing else works that fast. I have experimented with both the boulardii and various cerevisiae strains daily and I didn't experience any acute side effect or adverse sequela that would preclude me from using it daily if need be.

Thanks boss, no joint support? what's the reasoning for gut health + digestive enzyme? how much curcumin bcm you are using, I'm gonna buy the life extension one, this is a good one?

No need for a joint supplement as I have no issues in that department.

Gut Health (probiotic) and digestive enzymes aren't the same and work differently. One helps with nutrient absorption, immune system, GI issues, bowel inflammation, protection from foodborne pathogens, etc. The other simply helps break down the nutrients (fats, protein, carbs) for greater nutrient absorption/availability, and digestion.

Curcumin bcm-95 is likely the best available source out there right now due to its greater absorption. 1 gram per day.

Isn't longvida way better, seeing as it's the only one that crosses the BBB? Or does that only help with neuroinflammation instead of joint/physical inflammation?

You never have any issue running that dosage of curcumin? I found people that have issue like this : " frequent consumption can cause photosensitivity in some individuals. "

The study you linked makes no mention of it crossing the blood brain barrier, maybe I'm not reading it right. But anyway, it is theorized (on Longecity, Reddit, and a user here) that it is the metabolites of curcumin (curcuminoids) that have systemic anti-inflammatory effects (as in physical body/joint inflammation), versus neurofinflammation which actual curcumin in the bloodstream would help with.

No issues.

Was simply linking the study to read up on BCM-95 over other forms.

Also, where are you seeing that longvida is the only form able to cross the BBB?

Doesn't help in this regard.

Curcumin, the active ingredient found in turmeric, has no issues crossing the blood brain barrier. The main issue with Curcumin is its poor bioavailability, which is where the form being used is key.

From everything I've read, either BCM-95 or Mervia are the two top options available.

Vsl#3 also seems to prevent fat gain according to this RCT:

Probiotic supplementation attenuates increases in body mass and fat mass during high-fat diet in healthy young adults.
Randomized controlled trial

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: The objective was to determine the effects of the probiotic, VSL#3, on body and fat mass, insulin sensitivity, and skeletal muscle substrate oxidation following 4 weeks of a high-fat diet.

METHODS: Twenty non-obese males (18-30 years) participated in the study. Following a 2-week eucaloric control diet, participants underwent dual X-ray absorptiometry to determine body composition, an intravenous glucose tolerance test to determine insulin sensitivity, and a skeletal muscle biopsy for measurement of in vitro substrate oxidation. Subsequently, participants were randomized to receive either VSL#3 or placebo daily during 4 weeks of consuming a High-fat (55% fat), hypercaloric diet (+1,000 kcal day(-1) ). Participants repeated all measurements following the intervention.

RESULTS: Body mass (1.42 ± 0.42 kg vs. 2.30 ± 0.28 kg) and fat mass (0.63 ± 0.09 kg vs. 1.29 ± 0.27 kg) increased less following the High-fat diet in the VSL#3 group compared with placebo. However, there were no significant changes in insulin sensitivity or in vitro skeletal muscle pyruvate and fat oxidation with the High-fat diet or VSL#3.

CONCLUSIONS: VSL#3 supplementation appears to have provided some protection from body mass gain and fat accumulation in healthy young men consuming a High-fat and high-energy diet.

I have used Gut Health and like it a lot. However, it was recently out of stock and I've tried other products and thought I'd try out something new.

In the past I've used Probiotics 15 and it was OK. I honestly felt Gut Health was better.

However, my research has suggested to me that having more strains may be beneficial (makes for a more diverse gut) and I figured if I'm missing something, it may not even be the bacteria in the 5-6 strains I'm taking with other products, so one of my main criteria was to have a diverse number of strains. The second criteria I was looking for was for one of those strains to be S. Boulardii based on what Cooper and Nutrachem have said. I also wanted something that seemed to have most of what was in gut health, and maybe some soil based organism strains.

What I found that fit all these criteria was a product called Nexabiotic. It has 23 different strains, includeds S. Boulardi, includes Bacilus Subtilis (a soil based organism I believe is also in Gut Health) and was just about $20. It was between this and Prescript Assist mentioned above. Nexabiotic claims to have 34.5 billion living organisms in 2 caps (17.25 bn per cap).

Prescript Assist has more strains and a lot of different strains that Nexabiotic does not have - but Nexabiotic has strains that are similar to Gut Health and has S. Boulardi, so it won out this time around. I may try prescript assist sometime in the future - but it's hard to justify $50 vs. $22 or whatever I paid for 60 pills.

I was looking for a probiotic because I started taking Evomuse DCP and the capsaicin was killing my stomach. I had all but totally eliminated the pain by taking it with my orange triad doses everytime, but I still had some discomfort.

When I started taking the Nexabiotic, for about 6 days or a week my stomach actually felt WORSE. All the cramping and pain was back, not as intense as the DCP before, but similar and definitely a strong discomfort. I also started having issues feeling like I had to go to the bathroom and nothing would come out. And then I would go to the bathroom and have a really great BM at other times. It was strange.

Then, one day last week, after about 6 days like I said, I was having discomfort in the morning. I was driving around and my stomach was really hurting. Then, suddenly, over about maybe 1-2 hours, it just cleared up and hasn't been back since. It all went away. I can take the DCP and feel NO pain now. Nothing seems to hurt my stomach, and I feel much better. So far, Nexabiotic seems like a winner for me.
