Best bang for your buck

Most brands of whey concentrate bother my stomach, so I tend to stick with isolate.

Allmax IsoFlex at DPS is the cheapest that I've found that I like the taste of.

If I'm treating myself and buying for taste, I switch things up and try different things, but have to be really careful what brands I try bc I'm extremely allergic to gluten so I have to be really careful with any possible cross contamination.

What protein are you taking and where are you ordering from? Whats your favorite and most cost effective?
Myprotein Impact Whey protein has always treated me good. Pretty cheap too. PES Protein is my go to flavor that’s not overly expensive when on sale.

MyProtein Impact Whey and Impact Whey Isolate is probably the best value for money in terms of protein powders, they have a huge range of different flavours in both versions too.

Very recent great thread on protein…

Dymatize iso is what I use. Available everywhere, Target, Wally’s, grocery stores…Mixes easy.

The world has caught on to the power of whey protein and prices have followed suit 🤷‍♂️

I'll personally spend a few extra bucks for stuff like Muscle Sport Lean Whey... but if I was more worried about costs I'd probably go for something like the 10lb bags of Rule 1 whey powder from DPS. I've only tried a few of their flavors, none are mind blowingly good, but they aren't bad either.

Myprotein. Its a little expensive BUT every year they have a 40-50% off sale during the holidays. At that point I stock up. Sup[er high quality and lab tested. Ill buy around 20-30 pounds of whey to last me the year for under $200

TrueNutrition is also an excellent source, but they rarely have significant discount codes.

That's a good one. Can't beat the flavor of fruity pebbles for Dymatize Iso. We carry it over at Strong Supplement Shop as well.

Axe & Sledge Farm Fed is a good one. I also like Hosstile ISO H1 and Ghost Whey protein (Nutter Butter taste is hard to beat).

I recently bought Rule1 on Black Friday and have been impressed. Seems like it’s about on par with MyProtein from pricing (close). MyProtein seems to change pricing everyday, but using an athletes code usually gives you a good deal. PES is another good one mentioned.

Same. I'll either buy Muscle Sport Lean Whey or I've been liking Earth Fed Muscle.

Both are expensive, but I have like one shake a day. I just get sick of pounding protein shakes everyday.

Doesn’t Costco have like a Kirkland Whey that is apparently Optimum Nutrition? I need a Costco near me! Our Sam’s Club has junk for protein!
Depends on the Costco. I have never personally seen Kirkland weight or isopure at the 3 local ones I visit. Got fam that works at Costco and they say each store's management basically handpicks the products they carry, so it changes from location to location and especially from state to state, but should be able to get it through their online store.

Myprotein Clear. There is a 42% coupon code that works 99% of the time. Best tasting clear for the cost.

Costco has it in Lemonade now.

Amazed Isopure is still around. Worst tasting "clear" there is. So many better options. Their loyal fanbase should try the competition. No offense to those who enjoy it. I think it works in a pinch.

But now Target has SEEQ. Costco Myprotein. VS has Ryse in Clear.

**** man, I have always wondered about the clear protein. I have always perceived it as more of a gimmick than providing any measurable benefit over traditional whey.

I also thought that and tried some of the MYP Clear Whey… it was good!

I wrote something awhile back about this - that there was somewhat of a backlash against clear whey because of how some brands had tried to promote it as superior to regular whey. That was marketing hype and a sales pitch on the part of the brands doing it.

It's not that its any better than regular whey isolate, its just that its different and gives a wide variety of different flavors and some people find it easier to drink and sip on, and especially in hot months.

@Danksta710 is a very knowledgeable poster. I've never seen him say that its any better in terms of results, he just likes the taste and has provided everyone here with a lot of good taste feedback on different ones that he's tried. I've tried some different ones myself, but nowhere near as many as him, bc I'm trying to make myself drink up my huge stockpile before buying anything new haha.

The Costco near me does. The per serving cost is crazy good!

Yea it's not better than whey, but the way I can drink it, I find it better for my results. For example, I can fill my half gallon with 3 scoops of clear, which is about 60g of protein. If I drink 2 of those a day that is 120g on top of any whole food I eat. If I tried (and I wouldn't) to drink 6 milk shake styles a day I'd vomit lol. The clear is something that can be drank before, during and after meals/training. Protein synthesis never stops. The clear is a fast absorbing protein vs the whole food I eat. I've been doing it for years and feel it works this way.

It's also very refreshing like a juice drink vs the milk shakes which is more of a dessert and not refreshing, just enjoyable.

I save that style now for my treats I make like bars, cheesecakes and other stuff.

MP has come far with theirs too. I've been using it since it came out and the foam settles within seconds now compared to 10min. They have some great flavors too.

If you're willing to spend a little extra the Strawberry Limeade from 1st Phorm is crazy good.

Totally want to try it now :) care to share the code you have been using?

I've been using the couponbirds addon for firefox. Looks like the 42% code isn't an option. 20% was the best it would do. viddal. It's worth trying multiple add-ons to see if you can get a better code.

EDIT: 35% BRITTMYP is your best bet. Their current NEW45 sale doesn't seem to include the clear.

I use whey protein only with Greek yoghurt in the morning / evenings , and Clear protein post workout. Would never go back to a normal whey protein shake

I hope that we can do a protein and a clear protein this coming year.

The plan had been to do it last year, but then whey protein prices went through the roof again., so it just got put off and other things got prioritized in front of it.

I enjoy seeing what brands and flavors that people like, as that gives me ideas for what to try to do when we decide to do one.

That will be awesome. I think there is room for more competition. In the US; Clear is MP's #1 product.

Year after year I see more value in it myself. I like saving money with MP, but will spend extra on something like the 1st Phorm Strawberry Limeade. It took them awhile to come out with one and I could tell a lot of R&D went into the final product.

You make premium products and whatever clear you come out with will surely be worth it. (y)

Genius idea about drinking clear whey. Some of the flavors sound very refreshing. Last summer I did SNS Creatine HCL in my drinks during the summer when I worked my outside summer job when I was off teaching. I will try a clear whey and Creatine HCL this next summer.

Only annoying thing about Clear is its only 10 servings per tub if youre double scooping (40g of protein), so you end up having to buy 5-10 tubs at a time. Would be great if they did bigger tubs

The reason they do that is to try to sell the end product at certain price points.

The cost to make a clear protein is a lot more expensive than a regular protein because the raw materials are more, and then have to add anti-foaming agents. So the cost per serving to make is higher - and most brands go into it knowing that they want or need to sell it for a certain price, so they work backwards to determine where they need their cost to be and that determines the number of servings.

Totally understand where you are coming from and from a consumer perspective, I agree with you. I just wanted to explain the backend side of things to anyone interested in learning about it.

Another reason I think you don't see large tubs of clear whey besides just price is that a lot of people that drink clear whey try different flavors a lot, so I think brands think the bigger containers wouldn't sell well bc of price and because people may want to try a different flavor anyway. Like for regular protein, 90% of all protein sales are Chocolate and Vanilla; whereas with clear its really scattered over a lot of flavors.

SNS/CEL protein / clear protein / multi vitamins in 2025 please, so my entire stash is from Steve 😂 @sns8778

The multivitamin should be out in the first couple months of 2025. It's possible that it may come out during the 12 Weeks of New Releases.

For anyone that isn't aware, we are doing a promotion where we are launching a new product each week for the first 12 weeks of 2025.

The reason that we held off last year on a protein is that the fear of any brand getting into the protein market is you don't want to risk starting your protein when prices are high and then having prices drop and being stuck with inventory that you paid a lot more for. And prices had been up and down a lot leading up to last year when they went up. Now, I'm not really sure if they are going to come back down.

Going to keep an eye on it for the next month and make a decision. We have flavor samples approved for a really good Chocolate and Vanilla in both a WPI and a Zero Carb protein (WPI/Micellar).

I have so many ideas for flavors for clear protein that I don't know which ones that we would actually wind up doing. We would need to start with 2 or 3 and see how it sells and go from there.

Steve, how does the amino acid profile of the typical clear protein compare to WPC80/WPI90? Is it much different? I never looked into it, but always wondered.

Excited for your 2025 releases, especially the multi.

OP: I’ve become a flavor snob in my old age, so price is a lower concern to me, but one protein I recently found that’s often on sale is Axe & Sledge Whey More. I believe it’s a GNC tie-in, so may not be available elsewhere, but they often run sales on it and the brownie batter legit tastes like actual brownie batter. Of course it’s not perfect, but better than any brownie flavored protein I’ve had thus far and you can usually get it for ~$1 per serving.

I've never looked into that either, but I wouldn't expect it to be any different. It's like the regular, in that there are going to be slight differences by supplier, but should all be pretty close. The biggest supplier differences I've seen on clear from the raw material side is in how they handle the foaming, and some seem to foam a lot less than others.

And thank you. We have a lot of really cool things coming out. I'll be doing a 12 Weeks of New Releases thread either tonight or tomorrow.

The largest tub is 1.9lb Lemonade from MP direct or Costco. Costco offers that size/flavor at a pretty good price last I checked. I think it's going to take more time to catch on for more flavors to come in that size. It was just in the last year Costco added it and recently Target. Product is 5+yr old. It's just not mainstream enough even though it's their #1 product in the US.

Thanks for all the extra information @sns8778

Ya the Clear seems awesome for me around training. Still need to find a better option for when I'd prefer to mix something with my coffee though (the only other time I really use protein unless in a pinch).
I find good quality protein powder + 4 heaped scoops of full fat Greek yoghurt to be an amazing snack, have it twice a day for an easy 60g of protein and some fat

I'd personally use a multi blend collagen powder for that. I trust Custom Collagen for that. Dissolves easier for me than whey.

What do you like from MYP? I’ve had the Vanilla Impact whey, and a couple of the Clear whey’s which I liked more than I thought I would. I’ve been tempted to try “The Whey” which looks like a blend similar to Optimum or Rule1. Just curious. Thanks!

Also, what’s with all the different athlete codes? Wish they were all the same!

Hi!

So far I have only had the basic chocolate flavor. I'll just order 20 to 30 lb of it every year. Not sure what's up with the athlete codes but all I do every year is wait until holiday season when they cut everything down to 50% off and then I'll stock up. This last order I went out of my comfort zone and ordered some of the chocolate milkshake as usual but also marshmallow cereal and cinnamon cereal just to try something different but I have not yet opened up those packages.

Their flavors are not the best and flavoring is kind of weak BUT they are always on top of the list as A+ grade on labdoor.com supp quality testing, so I've stuck with them for years.

Ohh got it. Yeah I just roll with good ole impact. From what I found out through brief research online, there really is absolutely no benefit in getting spendy with isolate/hydrolized renditions unless you have adverse reactions to regular whey. Impact is their regular ole whey

Yeah, I only bought MyProtein for a few years but now I shop around a little, trying to keep up with a few dozen codes at any given time is so annoying. I’ll usually get either myprotein depending on price at the time or Rule 1 from DPS, price on that is comparable.

I like the vanilla ice cream and salted caramel from myprotein. I’ve had the clear protein from MP and those taste and mix amazing but I am cheap and I’ve never had any issues with the regular impact whey personally, I know everyone is different there. It’s also easier and cheaper to get a big protein serving with the more traditional flavors mixed in milk if you can stomach it.

Yeah man I took a peek at the pricing for clear after the discussion here and MAN it's expensive. I can't bring myself to do it.

Maybe going to the beat of a different drummer here but I normally go with Huel Complete Protein. It's a blend of Pea, Faba, and Brown Rice Protein along with a vitamin mix. Doesn't seem any more expensive than some of the brands mentioned already. Might be a nice alternative if you are looking outside the world of whey. And at the risk of getting flack here -I mix in a scoop of Naked Pea when I really want to kick up the protein and keep costs down.
