I love both Survivorman and Man vs. Wild. I think Man vs. Wild is more interesting though but here are my complaints about it.
1. first off there are no wild horses in America, all those so called wild horses he found were all actually from a farm
2. no one carries a flint everywhere they go unless they are expecting to get lost
3. I hate the fact that he uses the parachute for everything. who in the right mind would parachute in the middle of no where. Like the episode where he was in the arctic or somewhere cold, he used the parachute as a blanket, fishing line, safety line, hooks, and various other things. Thats a bunch of bull malarky.
But I wouldn't care if he is completey fake, I would still watch it because he a lot good survival tips and he knows what he is talking about. :thumbsup:

1. Yes there are..all over the west in fact. They are wild decendants of horses that the Spanish brought over. They are protected by law on public lands.

2 and 3. From my perspective I always carry a source of fire (matches/lighter) whenever I go out into the field. I also usually carry a small tarp though I know some people who do actually carry the old style silk parachutes as they pack up super tight, are super strong and have about 1000 uses.

If you are in a position where you can get lost or stranded far from civilization..ie 4wheeling, treking, ..you tend to carry the necessary items and that's kinda where these shows are coming from. They're supposed to be from the perspective of an average person who's run into trouble when out in the boonies.

anyways bear gyrlls may be interesting to watch but les is a true survivor, hence the name survivorman.
 
So what makes him a "true" survivor? Seriously? Straw man argument really as most people in the third world should be considered true survivors.

Les just goes out into the middle of nowhere, sits around for 7 days fasting and has people ready to come get him if he doesn't show up. That's a lot more support than I ever get in the field and I don't think of myself as a "survivor"...just a guy who likes to go out and be alone.
 
Bio, what's your take on the episodes of each show filmed in Africa? Maybe it's just a matter of perspective, but it seems like there are more large, dangerous animals in that region than they would encounter here and less shelter. I remember Bear walking around at night through a field and having a feeling that a lion could jump out at any time. I thought those episodes were the most intense, but maybe it's just my lack of understanding about that part of the world and the animals that are native to it.

Phew, all that typing made me thirsty for a pop. :head:

I carry a flint with me everywhere I go, and I spend most of my time, at least lately, in the city. I expect the zombies to be here any day now, and I will not be caught unprepared. I will have the means to make fire, so I can flee into the mountains. After raiding the nearest gun shop of course for a nice shotgun and a ****load of ammo.
