many people including myself have relied of supine (flat) bench press for years with little upper pec development. since adding incline presses into the routine my chest has filled out to a great degree.
If you look back to the "old school" training styles, upper chest development was done on the flat bench, by bringing the bar down towards the neck, as opposed to the nip-line.
