Aspirate?

Are you guys aspirating or is that no longer necessary? Quad, glute, delt...does it make any difference?

I haven't aspirated in 5 years, it's not even considered necessary practice in the hospital anymore.

That's what I've seen as well. If you look on youtube I think there are mixed videos with people saying to aspirate but in practice I don't think most do that anymore.

So I just pinned my Sunday evening pin. Went in the right quad, in the "approved" area. Got a few drops of blood as I pulled the needle out...first time for this to happen. Normal? Anything to worry about?

Nothing to worry about; aspirating is only to prevent injecting into a vein - which is extremely difficult to do because of the pressure. But it’s extremely easy to nick a vein going in or out, so some blood is very very common, especially the larger or longer your pin. I had a couple drops from my quad using a little 29g 1/2” slinpin this morning.

I aspirated one, maybe two, shots since I started pinning 6 years ago. It’s useless and not part of current medical instruction.
