ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS
People either love them or hate them…but once you begin to read the ingredients lists of many foods/supplements, you'll find some kind of artificial sweetener in most. Non-Nutritive Sweeteners (NNSs), offer no nutritional benefit but can serve a purpose. The biggest one within our fitness industry is to curb cravings which can be very beneficial during periods of severe caloric restriction. Although NNSs aren't the healthiest substance in the world for you, they are also like everything else…KEEP EVERYTHING IN MODERATION. Some people do respond worse to these than others so you'll want to keep an eye on:
-apetite suppression or acceleration
-headaches
-issues arising with digestion
-insulin sensitivity (even though a lot of literature refutes this, I have had some clients experience decreased sensitivity when they're artificial sweeteners were too high.)
