Article: The Myth Of Fat But Fit

True, there is a correlation between obesity and disease/premature death. However, body fat is not the cause. It is poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle which contribute to disease and death. Genetics play a role, as well, but studies show through healthy eating habits and exercise, most diseases can be fought off regardless of body fat percentage.

Years ago I watched a Phil Donahue tv interview with former comedian and health guru Dick Gregory. Gregory had with him on the show 3 or 4 very, very obese individuals. At the conclusion of the guests and Gregory's discussion, Donahue asked if - besides the obvious difficulties of extreme obesity like buying clothes or furniture to fit - if there were other lifestyle problems such individuals faced daily that might not be so apparent.

Gregory immediately held up an arm and said "see the length of my arm". Then he spread his 2 hands quite far apart and said "this is the width of a seriously obese butt". With these 2 lengths established he said "there is no way a seriously obese person can wipe their ass". I still think of that whenever I see a fat person - are they a wiper or not.

Any thoughts on whether Christy is a wiper???
