Article: The Flex Lewis Situation

We've all seen his off-season pics... dude could be amazing in the open not having to cut so much. He never coasts through a workout, he says he wants a legacy so we can't be sure what he'll do but his legs arms and back are so crazy it'll be hard for anyone to get on that level. Not saying the 212 that face him aren't impressive, his arms and legs alone make him look twice as big as everyone else

I stopped reading after the first two paragraphs. If you think he is not pushing things already in the 212 then lol.

Plus 212 is what he weighs in... by the time he's on stage its a much different story

Still, the man is "stage ready" at 230 every season and has to cut more than 10lbs of muscle mass to get to 212. Last year at Olympia, he weighed 211.8lbs. You don't get that much weight back from carbing up two days before. At most, he might get to 215lbs on stage.

Seriously, look at his pics a few weeks out from the Arnold or Olympia and you'll see that his arms and legs rival the best of the best in both size and definition.

My friend was there and knows a guy in Flex's camp and says he weighed 216 on the hotel room scale 3 hours before night show. Dudes genetics and overall symmetry are on the top rung of the ladder period.

Its funny how on the same day there is an article that is pro Kevin English, and one kinda calling Flex 'lazy'.

That's f'd up

What I meant is I do not think that a whole lot would change on the supplement side of the equation if he were to go open. The article suggests that due to being in the 212 he is able to keep things under control with the supps but to make the jump he will have to "take it to the next level." I call BS on this. He might use a bit more but I do not think he will suddenly be upping everything significantly. What I do think would change would be the nutrition aspect of the equation. Look at him the hormones are there add more food and BOOM he would be mixing it up in the open.

I would try once. If it doesn't go well, return to the 212. That being said it could be risky if he bombs in the open (I don't think he would, just a what if) and he loses sponsors and his brand is compromised. I'm in a similar place (in a different context) and have been putting off trying to better myself, as it will be a lot of work and sacrifice and I may not gain anything. That's life though. Personally, I think Flex is the best BB'er right now. So complete and aesthetic.

If I was flex I would be offended by the article as it gives the impression he can coast to keep his crown now. I call BS on that. Anyone that thinks he would have to train harder to be in the open is mistaken IMO. I really think it would simply be a matter of letting his body grow by feeding it more and not paying attention to the scale. This would have him going in the right direction in no time.

That's right. He wouldn't change anything except to stop cutting earlier in his comp diet. Flex routinely gets up to 245lbs in his off season while remaining lean. The past two years he has been stage ready at 225-230 but had to keep cutting lean mass just to get down to 212. This is why Flex and Neil believe he has room for improvement. His body wants to be bigger than the 212 class plain and simple.

He is easily a top 10 competitor at Mr. O open. Personally, I think if he could stay tight at 230lbs, he'd get top 5 every time.

His back/lat width is the only drawback compared to the bigger guys but he dominates in aesthetics, thickness, proportions, symmetry and conditioning.
