If you do some searching, you'll find a mix of results in studies. I've never seen anything contridict a low carb diet being the best for cutting fat. The affects on lean mass have been noted as reducing, hindering, and even aiding. Most folks still eat chicken, broccoli, brown rice and aspargus 5 times a day. Low carb & Keto diet is a dream after spending a few years on classic clean eating. If you want to try something different, consider cutting body fat while eating things like Cheese burger, susage, cheese, whole eggs, low carb cheese cake, fat bombs and so forth.
Personally, I've made good strength gains while dropping body fat on a keto diet but I was more sore and lethargic. I had a hard time convincing myself to eat enough fat. If you want to try it, I'd suggest doing a low fat & carb day w/ some sprints to suck out the glucose and then jump right into a low carb higher fat diet on day 2 and give it a couple weeks. I was drinking broth every other day to curb the lathargy. IMO, this is a great way to shock the system every once in awhile and take a break form the regular clean bland diet.
