Article: Safer Squatting With Lighter Weights

I stopped squatting so heavy because I was so focused on moving the weight I no longer was feeling the muscles work

That is a very good point. My goal several years ago was to squat 455 for reps. I actually achieved 495, but I was only concentrating on getting the weight up. No mental focus on the muscles I was using. Now I stop at 315 and use a higher rep range in the 8-12 area for multiple sets. The best part of this is that it allows me to concentrate on form and mentally picturing muscles being used. In the end, I have become stronger and built my legs better than when I was nearing 500lb squats.

Also, I'm 38 and my knees don't like that kind of weight anymore!
