Back is more than lats !! The back has many muscles that have to be build to get that massive thick back, and don't forget back is all about feeling every exercise we do and try to leave the arms out....
 
Agreed with this article. My back is the most developed back of anyone's in either of the 3 gyms I work at, and as I've only been training for a little over 2 years I attribute it to always constructing my back workouts around bent over barbell rows. (prob genetics and early childhood habits, too, tbh =p)
