Article: Is Fast Metabolism A Blessing Or Curse?

I somehow think the copious amounts of steroids these pros were taking had a far greater impact on their physiques than their metabolisms... and we have NO idea what they were taking exactly, and never will, so I fail to see them as reliable or particularly useful examples in this discussion... at best they are genetic outliers and therefore, for the most part, of little relevance to the rest of us. I certainly do agree though that metabolism isn't the be all and end all that many people make it out to be.

Was thinking exactly the same thing, after reading " no matter what they eat they dont gain any fat" im sure they eat well mlst of the time anyway and just emphasize their cheat meals plus steriods, they will have alot of experience and knowledge guiding them on steroid cycles

He didn't even delve into any science behind his thoughts.

Steroids don't really affect metabolism much, except that some hormones can suppress T3. But they DO reduce protein turnover by increase anabolism throughout the day. So think of it this way, if if u slow catabolic activity and increase anabolic activity, and kept the diet the same, you'd probably replace some muscle catabolism with fat burning. So you'd burn fat, all else being equal.

Now if u take steroids in copious amounts, eat WAY more food, especially protein rich foods, u then take advantage of the added anabolic activity that the hormones produced. This allows u to have massive muscle growth with relatively little fat accumulation. Combine T3 with it, (which they did) and u have elevated protein synthesis with an elevated metabolism. Well duh...

This article is leaving out critical components. We'd need to look at natural people to see if this really rings true...

Agreed, although there are undoubtedly other factors going on outside metabolism that determine body composition... I've known plenty of "bloated and pasty" people who seem to think because they're not 'fat', everything is OK with them because they have a fast metabolism. It's ridiculous. For decades now, our society has placed FAR too much emphasis on overall size, with little regard to the details and what's going on under the surface.

Well of course you won't gain much fat with the pharmacopeia of drugs used by top NPC athletes and IFBB pros and Lee priest gets fat in the off season because he eats like crap not because he has a "slow metabolism" if that were the case he wouldn't be able to diet down to contest shape in such a short period of time.

Yeah but something happened last night that makes me wonder about his point.

I got a buddy in the gym that sits at 195lbs, at 5'6" and probably 9% BF. He is huge for his frame. I learned that I eat MORE calories than he does and I'm 30lbs lighter and not quite as lean (I'm about 9.5-10%).

Anyways, he is on gear of course but still, he doesn't eat to support that type of body and yet he still has that body. Maybe he has over compensated it with ridiculous amounts of gear, I really don't know though.

The problem is there are SO many variables when it comes to human physiology, not to mention genetics alone... EVERYONE is different, and no two people, all things being equal, could follow the same protocol of food/supplements/exercise and end up with the same results. You just have to find out what works for YOU, what gives you the results you want, what makes you happy, and run with it.

Well being on gear having a very physical job and being 21 explains it

I'm not on any gear... Yet..
But can anyone explain why I stay so lean with all the junk I eat? And my diets pretty repetitive? Is it because my jobs very physical or is it the age I'm at ? And I still attain mucsle mass. But the catch is I always have to be eating. I eat every 2 hours .
