IMO, the better question is whether the gyms, the people that run them, and the trainers are making it dangerous. I personally don't think CF is dangerous itself and it really has been around for a long time in some form. What I continue to see are "boxes" popping up and not having a trained or prepared staff that are putting people in dangerous situations. Of course, this starts at the top and with the owners of these places. Add in the attitude that seems to be geared towards intimidating or making people believe the gym they are at is the best, and it adds up to a poor experience. Is it going to be more dangerous because of the type of work being done- yes. But, not to the point that people are getting injured at such a higher frequency.
I liken it to MMA gyms. I've been training in separate disciplines for a very long time and see the same issues now that the sport is lucrative and people can make money. Again, the owners and staff are to blame.
