Article: How Important is Breakfast?

Yep, haven't eaten breakfast on a regular basis for years and have continuously improved or maintained body composition ever since. Good to see a NYT's writer actually mention this, I at first thought this was gonna be another "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" article.

Two words: IF.

I actually feel sharper in the am without breakfast

Stopped eating a traditionally timed breakfast about 8 months ago and will fast until about 11am and then eat it. Fairly standard IF. So far it has been nothing but good with dropped BF and increased energy.

Ditto. 11am is my first meal. Last food ingested is by 8pm. 15 hours of fasting works fine.

FWIW. I also train at 6am so this flies in the face of IF templates that suggest breaking your fast after a workout. I do consume 10 mg of BCAA and EAAs thru my workout.

If you get to eat 500 calories a day extra and be more alive in the morning then breakfast clearly is a winner most gym goers are employed and dont have the luxury of waiting until 11am to eat especially if your work is manual , high protein balanced fats and carbs are essential to start a morning off

The point is that you do what works for you. Eat breakfast- fine. Don't eat breakfast- fine. It makes no difference and it is very clear that it is not necessary. There are times that I love to wake up and have a big breakfast with the family and usually do on the weekend. The importance lies on the caloric and macro intake.

Exactly! Go with whatever works for you. Funny how all of a sudden, breakfast is getting a backseat. Guarantee you that next year, there will be another article contradicting this one. I love breakfast and I happen to function better with it. Not talking about a big one, but like proats. Eat that every morning and have been now for almost 10 years. Never gets old.

I think it is getting a backseat because it is so engrained that it is required to keep muscle mass, stay lean, remain focused, healthy, etc... All of which we now know was never factual, but rather just another way to eat. I've gone from eating 6-7 meals throughout the day for the last 20 years, to eating all those same calories in 2-3 meals and a hearty snack in 8 hours and it is much easier for me. And the shocker- all my lifts continue to rise, I have more energy, my blood work looks better, and I am leaner.

Yeah, I used to be one of those "have to eat every 3-4 hours" type of person too but stopped. Layne Norton actually had an article saying that it's more beneficial to get your protein in larger doses than throughout the day. I too eat 3 meals a day and snack in between and feel fine. My body responds well to it.

It'll be good/bad depending on your lifestyle. I think IF and its forms fit the busiest people best. Wake up, take a crap, have some coffee and you're good to go.

Just make sure you count them cals
