Article: Everyone Can Be a Bodybuilder

Really? What has contest prep got to do with it? Not everyone who is into bodybuilding wants to compete. Some people just do it because they enjoy working out.

People that don't compete are fitness enthusiasts, not bodybuilders.

Anyone doing bodybuilding is a bodybuilder. A bodybuilder who competes is a competitive bodybuilder. Competition doesn't define someone as a bodybuilder, it's just one aspect.

By that definition every single person that does anything to improve their body is a bodybuilder.

Rubbish. Please explain how competing defines someone as a bodybuilder. It's only one aspect of bodybuilding. You can have two people, they both do the same training (bodybuilding training), eat the same food etc., but one competes and the other doesn't. They are both bodybuilders. Sorry but you have no authority to decide who is or isn't a bodybuilder. It's only your opinion, one you haven't put much thought into. By your logic, someone who trains in martial arts, but doesn't compete in the sporting aspect is not a martial artist.

Lol so I guess every single person who is in the gym lifting weights can call themselves a bodybuilder. Listen I have never competed. I love lifting but I would never call myself a bodybuilder

Everyone in a gym lifting weights isn't doing bodybuilding style training. Your argument is stupid. Not everyone lifts weights to get bigger and to try to shape their body into how they want it to look. But that's what a bodybuilder does. Whether or not you want to call yourself a bodybuilder is irrelevant to this discussion.

Someone who lifts to get bigger in the gym is not a bodybuilder.

Someone who lifts to get bigger and tries to shape their body to how they want it to look is a bodybuilder. Why do you try to argue by picking out only select parts of what I said? You still couldn't explain what I asked earlier. How does competing define you as a bodybuilder? I don't get how you think what I said, means anyone who works out can call themselves a bodybuilder. I clearly said anyone who does bodybuilding training. Not Pilates, not yoga, not powerlifting, not crossfit. Bodybuilding is a lifestyle, and you don't have to take part in the sport side of it to be a bodybuilder. If you don't know the difference between the way a bodybuilder trains and anyone else, then go get educated. You really are showing your ignorance.

Someone who lifts to get bigger and tries to get in shape is a fitness enthusiast. Bodybuilding is a lifestyle, and that includes cutting down to do contests. I liken this to someone saying they are a powerlifter, yet don't compete, or calling yourself a football player because you throw the ball around with your friends.

When did I say anything about calling myself a bodybuilder? You clearly cannot follow a simple and coherent argument. Someone who does not suffer the actual rigors of bodybuilding, which includes dieting down for a show, is not someone I would consider a bodybuilder.

Maybe read the other comments, that was directed to Jeremy. The thing is, it doesn't really have anything to do with what you think. Someone can live a bodybuilding lifestyle and do everything just like someone who competes, including dieting. They can call themselves a bodybuilder if they want, it has nothing to do with anyone else. And I didn't say "get in shape ", I said shape their body the way they want it to look. There is a big difference. Read how it is written, not how you want to see it to make an argument.

Any way you slice it I think people get enjoyment out of telling other people they're a bodybuilder. It feeds their ego. I mean if you're doing every single thing a bodybuilder that competes does but you aren't competing can you call yourself a bodybuilder? I would say sure why not. But my next question would be " why the **** aren't you competing?" I mean if you're putting in ALL of the work required except for stepping on stage then come on just compete lol
