Article: Does Too Much Protein Hurt Gains?

Isn't that a catch 22 though? Lower protein may help with less myostatin, but how do you take advantage of the lower myostatin if there isn't enough protein for effective synthesis? You just can't win.

Well, protein isnt just limited to building muscles but also burning fat. It is a better choice than both carbs and fats when one is trying to burn fat off.

I also think that carbs play a key role in protein's effectiveness. The more carbs I eat, the less protein is required to build muscle mass.

You're right, you just can't win.that's why we don't see Jay Cutlers at every street corner.your genome doesn't want you to be Jay Cutler

I really do NOT want to sound like a Biotest fanboy, but if the above study is proven valid in the long-run, maybe their whole "peri-workout nutrition is more important than overall food consumption" hypothesis/business model might not be total bunk after all?

What I've read is carbs are protein sparring and like you said the more I eat carbs the less protein I need and I feel my muscles grow when I eat more carbs.

There is a direct connection between carbs and insulin, this is common knowledge. But what isnt so commonly known is how big of a role insulin plays in packing on size. You need constant insulin to maximize ur growth efforts, this includes shuttling protein to the appropriate place - the muscles. Problem is, insulin tends to lend itself to some moderate amounts of fat gain as well. This is why u need to be really lean before trying to bulk again. Otherwise, you'll end up too fat after the bulk which makes for a difficult time in cutting.

This also piggiebacks onto my other statement about protein being a good option for fat burning too, regardless if the body uses it for protein synthesis or not. It doesnt create large amounts of insulin and thus allows more fat stores to be used.

"You still need that blast of whey protein after a workout."

Need isn't the right word.

Does no one realize the guy who wrote this has also been pushing myo-t12, myo-x and other snake oil supplements?

Protein also causes insulin spikes, not just carbohydrates. Carbs also make your muscles feel fuller and give the impression of size. Go keto for a couple weeks and you'll lose some size. It comes right back when you carb up.

Protein does cause insulin release but not sufficient amounts in and of itself. It needs carbs. Unless 100% of ur protein is from fast-releasing sources, carbs are essential for the benefits of insulin anabolism. To say that because protein causes insulin release and therefore justifies the idea of muscle building without carbs is kinda like saying that a 2 iu injection of insulin is just as effective as a 5 or 7 iu injection. It just isnt true.

The water weight u speak of is only partially true. The danger in ketosis isnt losing the glycogen, but sacrificing the muscle aminos in its place. So long as u are in a caloric deficit and are carbless, u risk eating excessive amounts of muscle mass during anaerobic activity. The degree in which this occurs varies greatly from one person to another as genetics & metabolism do play a key role in how efficiently the body uses fats vs. carbs for energy.

they should make these people site there sources instead of "new research shows that". that doesnt mean **** to me unless you tell me where you got the info.

I honestly wasn't trying to start a debate. It varies from person to person what works best. I look like **** on high carb, but some people can looked lean on moderate to high carb diets.

My bigger thing was that Colker isn't someone is listen to wit ball his "myostatin inhibiting" products
