Article: Do You Need To Squat Deep?

Great write up and good info!

I can barely squat with my lower back these days, they did work my quads better than anything else!

I have that disorder, CAM Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). I had 2 hip surgeries to correct them and have more pain now than ever. Still have problems with squats.
Good article though.

Unless you have a torn back muscle or ligament or otherwise have had extensive surgery, I would suggest going light in weight and deep in the squatting. Do reps of 20 @ 65%. You'll be dying afterwards and you'll also strengthen that back up alot. Try yet another variation of this with front squats @ 30-40% of your 1RM and doing 20-25 reps. This also increases core strength.

Bent over rows & deadlifts are also a good answer to a weak back.
