Article: Dangerous Exercise Machines

I'd just like to say that you are wrong about the leg extensions creating dangerous torque. It should be the same as doing front squats. The difference is the shear force on the joint, not the torque (or bending moment). The joints are built for torque. But let's say you kick a punching bag, that impact force is a HELL of a lot higher than the shear force of a leg extension.

Idk I feel like some of the excercises could be safe if performed with perfrct form...sitting military press for example

I agree that most, if not all, free-weight alternative exercises are superior to their machine counterparts; however, countless bodybuilders, weight lifters, power lifters, and your average recreational gym-goer have utilized machines to get good results with no problems or issues and have avoided injuries - myself included. This article is silly.

This entire article should be burned. Military Press? Leg curls? Son if it hurts your not doing it right. Ever notice the same guys who bash Certain lifts arent very good at them? Hmm the irony.

And you can do a safe military press on the smith..I always thought the key to military press stopping at 90degrees and liftinf straight up..smith causes you do do that basically

1-4 I totally agree with. The others are very debatable. As far as leg ext/curl as long as they are not done with max. I would hope that's what he's referring to.

I might go along with numers 1, 2 and 5, the others are BS. Mostly I use free weights, but I have used all of these, off and on, for going on forty years with plenty of benefit. It's a matter of doing them right. I do agree that using any of these options incorrectly (the way most people use them) can be dangerous.

Do's and Don'ts are individual to the person doing the exercise. Some machines will work better for some while free weights are better for others. There is NO cookie cutter approach to the iron game and those who pay attention to what works and what does not will usually succeed in the goal they set for themselves

It seems like the author of this article was the dude from Broscience. No machines, the will mess you up... Lol
