Article: Benefits Of Weightlifting Belts

Valsalva maneuver is also how you can get a hernia quickly.

It's just a fancy name, there's no other way to do a heavy squat w.r.t. breathing, at least, I find I always do it that way; big breath on the way down, red face on the way up. I also use a belt and I think it prevents a hernia, I know the intra abdominal pressure is huge anyway.

It is a technique label used in kinesiology, one that isn't safe and recommended against.

Sure, you lift more weight, but I'll sacrifice the extra 10's on each side for proper breathing and a strong core.

Weight belt def helps, esp on the heavy lifts.
I still slowly exhale while bracing my core on the way up.

Ok, so, can I ask how much you squat? I get around 300 a2g and I have to hold my breath on the way up. No choice in the matter.

Sure, instead of talking about what I do, I like to show people, as well as show what a true Ass 2 grass squat is .Here is a demonstration of 225, full squat.
Yup, that's how I do it too. Good for you for doing full squats, I haven't seen very many people do it that way. It's a *lot* harder right? I can do box squats with 400+ but full squats no way, 300 is a hell of a push, for me anyway.

A belt is a must for power lifts. Typically I warm up without one but I always wear it for heavy sets. Good tip on the breathing as well. Thats very accurate. At least for me.

I'll be waiting for your video of the 300lb full squat.

That's kind of presumptuous, seeing as I never said I'd do that. You're free to read my log if you like. There's 3 years worth of daily workouts there. Don't let it keep you up at night though.

I go for full squats, too (well as much as I can with my flexibility, but it's still below parallel). It cut my max "squat" in half, but I was doing ***** squats before so I don't mind the decrease in weight. My hamstrings and glutes are a lot better for it.

Yes I agree, the glutes take way more punishment with a full squat, for me though it's my lower back that's thanking me. The weights are less for one thing, and the extra ROM is like a big stretch, it's awesome.

I definitely agree about the lower back. My deadlifts have also been a lot better after doing full squats. When people say the full squat works a lot of muscles, they ain't kidding.
