Article: Another Round With Alcohol & Muscle, V 2.0

I binge drink when I do drink (a few times a month), and it hasn't had any effect on my bodybuilding goals (I used to drink maybe once a year). I've been drinking this way for the past 9 years. I chug an assload of water before I go to bed, and chase shots with water. In my opinion, water is absolutely the key to keeping hangovers at bay. Don't let drinks concentrate in your stomach, dilute them with water. Stay hydrated, eat well, you'll be fine. All those years that I didn't drink, thinking it would make a big difference in my bodybuilding abilities, I wish I had. Just don't do it everyday of course, like once a week max.

Once or twice a month ill go out and get really drunk. I drink fasted and take aminos prior throughout the day so I don't have un metabolized food in my system. I will have maybe one beer or glass of wine then switch to shots of tequila chased w water. No sugary drinks no mixers. I rarely have hangovers and can usually train the next day if I want to, although it's usually an off day after I go out. I wake up leaner and very sensitive to insulin after a long fast and having pissed out/ metabolized the alcohol by the next morning!

i do pretty much the same. get absolutely **** faced once every 2-3 weeks.

When you say you drink fasted, how many hours typically are you not eating before the drinks begin? and what are the total calories of food that you've eaten in that day? does drinking water have any effect on the buzz?

I try to eat mostly protein and eat less calories that day to try and make up for the amount of calories that will come in from the alcohol.

I haven't eaten for about 20 hours by the time I start drinking. And don't eat until about 10 hours after I finish drinking. It's about 1 1/2 day. So it requires some planning ahead. Water is fine. Without it the hangovers are deadly due to dehydration.

I'm a little confused. Are we talking about the bad effects of alcohol, or the effects of the hangover? i understand the extra calories and such, but I feel like this article is focused more on the day after.
If I drink a lot of water before and during drinking alcohol, and be fully hydrated in the morning, it will all be totally fine?

It is for me anyway, guess it just depends on the individual. After a night of heavy binge drinking, I've been known to down up to a gallon of water before passing out. Have never pissed my pants either
