There's a lot of variation with store-bought kefir in regards to secondary ingredients (like thickeners, stabilizers, & flavoring additives), and a fairly significant variation in sugar content. This is because the longer you ferment the kefir, the more sugar gets eaten by the fermenting bacteria. If the label just says milk & live cultures, and the sugar level isn't too high for your requirements, I suspect you're good to go.
