What client do you use? How long does it usually take?

Thanks bro!

I use azureus and, depending on the file size and the amount of peers and seeders, some files can take a full day to download. A peer is someone who is trying to get the file just like you are. You and the peer exchange file pieces that the other does not have. A seeder is someone with the file 100% downloaded and is nice enough to provide their file for others to use for a while. That's about as much as I can tell you.

A day to dl something? Must be getting slow speeds or have no one seeding. I have downloaded 7gigs in less than half a day. Than again I was getting speeds of 300kb/sec...... :)

i currently use the bittorrent basic client for my mac. it works like a charm. i have used a few various ones on my xp machine, but i'm a mac user mostly.

I use the bittorent client. It usually takes me several hours to download about 400 megs; however, I also have several different dl's going at once.

In case you were wondering you must download a torrent file and then open t w/ your client. You can usually find torrent files on torrent websites. However I should say that it would probably be easier to learn to use IRC since old torrents don't generally have many people to dl from.

Yes, 1-2 gigs takes about a day, even with a tone of peers and a dozen seeders. I use azureus and have tried everything I know to tweak it for faster speeds. Any advice on this?

i use irc scripts and just do it that way. the whole torrent idea is quite interesting, but just depends on the connection speeds and what your peers are d/l and u/l at the moment. i guess all-in-all it's a good idea. just sucks when older files don't have as many people to connect to.

Well I use the basic bittorrent client on my mac too. I actually use an older version since I get MUCH better speeds on it than any of the new versions. Its 3.4.2. As far as making things faster, I guess the main problem I ever had was being connected to a router. If you are have you opened up ports for it? I had ports 6000-7000 open for it and got great speeds.

Azureus is the best one when it comes to configuration, but because it's Java based, it does take a lot of resources to run it. Second best would it be bitcomet which is light and simple.
