Anyone have apnea?

I've felt rough quite some time. My Dr ran tons of tests and after hearing my dad and sister have apnes, he thinks I have it too. I saw a sleep specialist and she said I have a narrow airway. My wife stayed up one night to listen to me breath and said my breathing grows shallower until it stops...then I take a deep breath and start over. Basically I never enter REM.

I'm scheduled a sleep study in mid August to make sure. Damn those mask look like they suck. How the hell am I supposed to sleep wearing scuba gear? lol. I'd do just about anything for a good sleep though.

I can imagine if I get to sleeping good my gains may take off as my rest and recovery will improve.

So anyone else here go through this?

Do you know exactly what is causing your apnea ?

There are 2 people in my office who have sleep apnea. They actually fall asleep during boring meetings and at work but since it is a medical reason they cannot be fired for it under Title VII. They are just 'nudged' to be woken up.

However if I do this they would fire me.

Sleep apnea (if this is what you are talking about) is where you are so heavy that you temporarly stop breathing while you are sleeping so you have constant interrupted sleep cycles throughout the night.

In this case (the 2 people at work), they are excessively obese. Both of them are atleast 40-50lbs overweight.

I wouldn't be surprised if some pro-bodybuilders deal with apnea as well due to being so large (muscle).

I think I might have apnea....I snore like a mofo if I don't sleep on my stomach, and I am usually tired during the day. My uncle had the survey done before and had the surgery, he said his sleep quality is much better now

There are actually a couple of reasons why a person could have sleep apnea. Excessive weight is the most common. In my case, the sleep specialist noted I was in great shape so weight wasn't an issue. She measured my neck (17 1/2) and looked down my throat. She said I had a narrow air passage. Since my dad and sister have it too, my apnea is more likely due to a genetic issue.

I get the official sleep test where I'm wired and monitored in mid-August.
