I have been starting to get into golf, and am curious if anyone here is an avid golfer?

Looking for any advice you can give. YouTube videos to watch? Clubs to use? Books to read? Websites to check out? Any advice or tips would be much appreciated.

I am.

Is this your first time trying the game?

I've been playing for 35 years. Best advice I can give you just starting out is go see a teaching pro at a local course. Most offer some kind of beginner teaching package, usually around$100. Honestly, the type/ brand of club or ball isn't really going to matter for awhile. Go to the range or better yet a par 3 course if there's one nearby. Have fun, don't watch the golf channel, read too many magazines or read too many books. Keep it simple. Too many ideas in your head at once can really mess you up. It's a great game you can play anywhere so just have fun with it.

But a couple of good books to start you out are the fundamentals of Hogan, and Dave Pelz short game and putting bibles. Driving the ball 300 yards is fun(when it's straight) but learn to be good inside 100 yards and on the green and you'll learn to score well.

Good advice. Keep it simple until you understand why things happen (in your swing).

Find a good teacher to give you the basics then practice practice practice.

I could fix it!!! Lol

It's weird. Only there on about half, my baseball/softball swing coming out

That will do it. Probably have a big forward press with open club face. Happens a lot with baseball swings.

Love golf and actually enjoy it more now that I am not so concerned about my handicap. Pre kids I was a 12 and always consumed with getting better. Now, I go out randomly and have a much better time because I don't care.

Yes sir. When I was a kid/teenager my grandpa would take me to the driving range, but I have never actually played a round of golf.

Thank you very much for the advice. There is a really nice golf center not too far from where I live, I'll stop in there and ask teaching packages. My grandpa gave me some golf books years ago, I'll have to see if
I still have them.

Thanks for the advice Admin! Maybe some day we can get an AM golf outing going
Lol.

Love golf, hate my slice on drives.

Once I really grasp the concept of the game, we will have to get together for some golf and beers.

That's how my dad was, especially now that we are all grown and out of the house he has more time to go enjoy himself on the course.

It's an addictive game. In some ways it's like bb'ing when it comes to the mental aspect. It's takes a lot of discipline and dedication. I went from a 18 HC to +1 currently. Took 10 years to do it. Lol

I love golfing, but I suck at it. Lol I don't go much now that my friend moved away who I would go with. I slice hard on my drives, probably because of years of baseball. It's a great time, being outside, playing a fun game, being with friends, and drinking. Perfect. Lol

A Top Golf just opened near me too and that's pretty fun as well. I never bought my own clubs, they're too expensive and I don't go enough. I can just use my friends $1000+ clubs when I do go! Lol

Quite an accomplishment being a scratch golfer. I'm a 7 handicap myself and I've been playing a long time. Although I spent a long time(and allot of money on equipment) trying to play the shots the pros do, now I play within my own strengths and score allot better. And it's allot more fun.

Great advice. Couldn't get any better! Listen to this and take it seriously OP. You will be a good golfer if you put it to use.

Golf and bodybuilding are extremely similar from a mental standpoint. It take years of hard work and dedication to be good!!!! One of the reasons I love both. So challenging from a mental standpoint.

Also when I was competing on the mini tour circuit in Florida my coach taught me that alcohol use was counterproductive since it delays muscle memory. We all know how important muscle memory is when you are learning a new swing or working hard day after day towards making a swing adjustment. So I also carry that mindset with me to the gym as well.

My dad used to play National level, I was just into long driving and playing for fun.

I may be checking out the Vegas top golf on Friday. Never been to one so might as go big!
