Anxiety and how to help calm it

Well, back when I was in active addiction, I abused it quite a bit, so for me it's a bad idea. So I'm again looking for something else to rotate with tianeptine because I can feel tolerance developing.

Also, PC's 3% salidrosides rhodiola gives me killer anxiety. Not good at all lol.
What's everyone's favorite rhodiola brand?

Weren't we talking about the effects of 3% salidrosides? I believe that increasing dopamine levels like that will throw your balance of neurotransmitters off, which is the effect the high salidroside content has.

Yeah, I just had to try it for myself to see. Lame, right? lol I'll probably need to go back to Gaia.
Have you purchased Ceretropic's tianeptine sulfate or tianeptine sodium yet?

I've tried sulbutiamine now with doses ranging from 200mg to 800mg without any discernable effect.

No, I haven't. I actually dropped tianeptine and realized that the effects were so subtle after being off of it, that I decided it isn't worth the money for me.

Oh, well, Ceretropic's definitely isn't subtle lol.

The powder I was using was pretty good too, but my doses are usually doubled daily to get the desired effect of clean, positive, focused energy and anxiolytic effect. Tianeptine has never been a very subtle drug for me come to think of it, even at the standard dosing protocol.

I'm really loving the productivity boost I get from my 50mg+ dose once in a while from the shorter acting powder. I think I need to get myself some of both.

Agreed on all accounts. It's an incredible tool for all things mind-numbing (E.g. chores) to complicated (E.g. situations at work). I just received another order of both the sulfate and sodium that I plan to use the sulfate morning and noon, and the sodium in the evening so it doesn't effect my sleep. As I've stated before, this is my favorite supplement I've ever used.

Well, a lot has changed since that last post. I've since stopped using tianeptine, went through some mild withdrawal including physical and emotional symptoms. No more of that for me.

I ordered NutriGold's KSM-66 ashwagandha and will dose at 1 cap twice a day (comes out to 30mg total withanolides daily). I did some more research on ashwagandha and apparently most of it is underdosed according to the labels instructions unless it's sensoril or KSM-66.

have you ever used ashwagandha? what are the effects supposed to be? a mild anti-anxiety supp?

I've used many different brands over the years and can say that I do notice a difference with KSM-66. I only use it once a day instead of normal 2x daily.

Do you take it with food or without? I always thought it was supposed to be taken on an empty stomach but the KSM-66 directions and examine.com says to take with food.

I have been using KSM-66 at 250mg 2x a day for the past 4 months. It is a definite step up from other ashwagandha that I have used. I take one in the morning with breakfast then the next dose on an empty stomach in the evening. This has worked well for me.

I may have to try the KSM-66 some time. I didn't notice much from the Ashwaghanda I tried.

I've never noticed anything from any ashwagandha, even sensoril, but with all the evidence of its efficacy, I had to try the KSM-66. I'll update this thread with whatever I notice.

Agmatine the only supp that i ever noticed helps calm anxiety almost immideiately upon ingestion
Magnesium glycinate is a good one

prescription meds besides benzons can help too i use hydroyzine on a as need to basis
and i take buspar daily the busapr is very weak though and i feel helps more after a couple months of regular use.

I use Swanson's which is 250mg of straight KSM-66. I like it and it works well for me.

Actually, also using Ultimate-T which has some KSM -66 in it as well.

I tried buspar but holy 5h1t it literally made me high / tweaked out after taking. Completely spaced / out of it. I also felt these crazy 'zaps' that feel identical to ssri withdrawal symptoms. I stopped it after 4-5 days.

Stablon ftw for me. It's all I rely on now whenever I feel the need for anything, and I tend to cycle it's use to keep it working.

Have you tried any of the following (some are more effective than others, but all have at least some research showing that they can help with anxiety, and some may work better with regular use as opposed to an acute effect):
-Kava
-Theanine
-Ashwagandha
-Bacopa
-Ornithine
-Tongkat Ali
-Kanna (sceletium tortuosum)
-Holy Basil
-Lemon Balm
-Valerian

I use Valerian twice a day now as well. It works well, but too much leaves me sedated.

Yeah, I picked some up recently, and I only use it at night, although I haven't been using it regularly. I feel similarly about lemon balm, and wouldn't really want to take it when I want to be very alert.

What's your magic not too much mg/day?

I'm using Nature's Way standardized extract, 1 cap provides 400mg Valerian root, 110mg Valerian extract, .8% valerenic acid. I'm taking 1 with breakfast and 1 with dinner and doing well. Keep in mind I'm also using 300mg theanine twice a day, 250mg rhodiola twice a day, 1g agmatine twice a day, and have just added KSM-66 ashwagandha twice a day also. At the moment, I would say the Valerian provides the strongest anxiety relief, but only because I just added the KSM-66 and haven't evaluated it solo yet.

KSM-66 is a great addition and one of my favorites. However, its effects are mild compared to things like tianeptine.

Lavender (especially the Silexan extract) has some really good data with regard to reducing anxiety:

Apparently it acts as a 5-HT1A agonist (similar to buspar...which is a partial agonist). I picked up some (Nature's Way CalmAid) this morning and plan on starting it tomorrow.

I decided to go ahead and take one after lunch today. I definitely notice an anti-anxiety/calming effect. However, I read that it gets better (and the half life increases from 4 hours to 9 hours) after approximately 11 days of continues use. One warning though, I experienced lavender burps about an hour after taking it (not a lot but enough to be noticeable and they pretty much go away after a couple hours). However, I didn't really think it was unpleasant or anything...but others might not like it. It will be interesting to see the effects after using it for a few weeks (i.e. after I get past any possible placebo effects).

Have you looked this up on examine? Where it discusses it's interaction with testosterone, it says it might have an anti-androgenic effect... :(

Yeah, saw that. However, the study that claim is based on is very weak and wasn't even done with a living test subject (i.e. mice, rats, etc).

True, but I'm not sure I want to risk it either. I just picked up some lemon balm. I'll probably dose 600-1200mg nightly and report back.

Lemon balm is pretty good. I tried it a few months ago. However, I think the brand I tried was too strong (New Chapter) because it ended up being too sedating for daytime use (would probably be great taken before bed though).

Edit: found this summary (which includes a link to the results of a recent study in mice) which indicates no estrogenic activity by lavender - Invalid Link Removed

I'm not sure if its been mention yet but a lot of it has to do with the way that you walk to yourself. I've had treatments from a therapist about this issue actually and the best thing I took away from all of it was to be more 'mindful', which is listening and paying attention to your thoughts. Its much better to stop a negative or anxious thought in its tracks by getting back into the present moment, then to let it to grow out of hand and then trying to turn it around which is so much harder.

A good book I read about this is "What to Say When you Talk To Yourself". Yeah it sounds like a silly title, but it actually has some good advice in it :)

I really liked the depth of the "walk to yourself" comment and slowly realized you meant "Talk to yourself" haha. Nice to see a non-supplemental post on this thread. I have horrible anxiety which is new to me since the onset of Graves Disease about 5 years ago. I take phenibut a couple times a week and ashwaghanda daily (ksm-66 can't recall brand). This combo has helped immensely and I thank this thread for those suggestions.

Back to your post - I have also incorporated non-supplemental "things" into my regime which, in short, revolve around keeping a positive mindset.

Today was the last morning I'll try lavender (CalmAid by Nature's Way). While it seems to work well for reducing anxiety, it's just not worth the "intestinal difficulties".

I have bought some Jarrow Aswagandha (KSM-66). Does it have an acute effect? Should I start dosing with my first meal or taking it at night?

I'm definitely going to pick up some KSM-66. I've been having bad anxiety when it comes to being night time. It's like I'm scared of the night because I know I'll have to sleep.

I woke up in a panic/anxiety/asthma attack one night and couldn't go back to sleep. I felt crazy and like I couldn't breath so I was scared to sleep. Ever since then the night time freaks me out and my sleep is really suffering. I wake multiple times a night, which is normal from me, but now it is coupled with a really bad anxious and scared feeling.

I'm on 750mg of test and I am about to lower the test and add in Tren so I need to figure this out quick lol

I don't believe I've noticed an acute effect, but I'd say to start with taking 1 twice a day if you have chronic anxiety. I'm actually taking it 3 times a day with meals successfully.

Lemon balm is working well for me at night in the 900mg-1200mg range. Great for sleep.

Get 20g pregnenolone from Nutraplanet along with 3 bottles of their Topical Matrix. Make your transdermal Preg and start dosing 100-150mg daily. In a couple weeks, anxiety would be a thing of the past.

You are waking up mid-sleep because you are running out of cortisol. The fact that you are anxious and scared when you wake up confirms that. You are running out of it because the extra testosterone has 'asked' for an increase in cortisol metabolism and did not get it permanently. So whatever cortisol you had made that day burned out quicker leaving little to keep you asleep through the night. Also, growth hormone needs cortisol to do its thing, you cannot recover optimally with depleted cortisol.

In addition to boosting your cortisol metabolism, transdermal preg would convert to allopregnanolone that would balance out the neurotransmitters in your brain and, barring any serious genetic defects, remove any symptom coming from the imbalance: anxiety, fear, mental chatter, etc.

While waiting for the preg to kick in, you could also try Revamp that is still on sale at Nutraplanet. It provides straight cortisol in the adrenal extract and can fix your sleep when taken before bed like the instructions say anyway.

This a specific recomendation to rascal14 issues or can be used for anyone who suffers from Anxiety?

Yeah I didn't order any of that, and the waking in a panic went away on its own.

I'm pretty sure the trouble breathing was caused by acid reflux, making me feel like I couldn't breath or swallow, which freaked me out causing bad anxiety when I would wake up in the middle of the night.

It's poor information overall based on what little he actually knows about rascal14's situation.

Oh ok, because in fact i already read that pregnenolone can be good in some cases but not so good in another ones. I think theres some cases where Anxiety can be caused for an excess of Cortisol. Anxiety must be one of the most difficult diseases to deal with, diagnose the root of the problem and fix :(
