Pull Power

I went in picturing the 405 going up. To make a long story short, I got it! I was quick off the ground and getting past my knees. I slowed down right above my knees. I did not hitch, I let out a dbag grunt and locked it out. My body was shaking after. The backdown sets after felt so damn heavy!

On rack pulls, I set the pins where I was prior to last week. Last week was too low, but the height that I used this week is slightly to high. So I stood on a plate and that height felt good.

Legs Hypertrophy

Epic leg pump today. I think I am going to replace the pause squats with high rep squats for now on. Usually that second exercise I do 12, 10, 8 or 6 reps depending on the week. I think I am going to go 20,15,12 and 10.

Push Power

Starting to get sick I think. My throat is a little sore and that is usually the first sign. Hopefully it doesn't get too bad, but a lot of my students have been sneezing like crazy so who knows. I guess it is decent timing though since I have Christmas break starting in a week. At least I will be able to rest up if I need to. Hit the 210 today. Barely, but I did. I felt like I had some more in me though. I wouldn't be able to go heavier, but i did several back down sets.

Lower Power

Got the 315 today! I asked my spotter if I hit depth and he said oh yea and showed me how close I was to the pin. When I asked him, I think he was surprised I even asked. It was not an easy rep. I got out of the hole nicely, but at the sticky point, I felt my glutes contracting a lot. It was one of those grinders were your throat hurts after. Needless to say, I looked like a tomato after. AntM Reviews iForce's Thermoxyn Detox
[/size]

Final Review - This is you typical product and will be hard to review, in comparison to other products I have written reviews for. Overall, I was happy with my run. Do not get nervous by the words detox on the label. I know when I hear detox, I think of a product that is going to make run to the bathroom non stop and have liquidy stool movements. That is not the case though. I am pretty regular, I would say I use the bathroom every 7/10 mornings. With Thermoxyn Detox, I would average about 8 or 9 mornings. There were some days where I went in the afternoon as well. The BM were not explosive, but nice and smooth every time. I would suggest this product to anyone, especially those that need more regularity in their bathroom management. On days I did not have a BM, which was not often, I did not feel full or bloated in my lower abdomen. Fiber and water intake should be looked at first, but this would definitely help. Even though I go pretty regularly, I am going to make this a staple supplement. I will not use it daily, but I'm thinking about using it quarterly throughout the year. So one bottle every 3 months. It is important to have regular BM not only from a bodybuilding standpoint, but also a health standpoint as well. 10/10

IHoly hell my hamstrings were still really sore today. This made deadlifting a bit tough. I went 10 pounds heavier than my previous 5x5 though. I could tell towards the tail end I was using my lower back more than my legs. I know because my lower back felt tired and more fatigued than normal. Tomorrow's leg day is going to suck!

See Booneman's post. He designed the program and I always liked PHAT, but was contemplating running a PPL program so he gave me his template.

But what if I was already a sex God? Would I be THE sex God?

You need to fight with booneman77 for that distinction. Will the student become the master?

I have been trying to find a program like this, that I can use with barbell or dumbbell only exercises...

That's not a problem at all. Shoot me an email (in my sig) and I can send you the excel template and you can just swap any machine exercises for bb/db ones

I also have a standard 5 day phat layout if you want that as well or instead

Legs Hypertrophy

Today's session was tough with my legs and lower back being sore. I ended up skipping lunges and replaced them with landmine squats. I really enjoyed them. I did them third in the routine, but think I am going to add them as my last exercise from now on so I don't have to go heavy. I was able to go ATG and pause. This is a very underrated exercise.

Push Power

Had to move this and pull hyper up a day since the gym is closed Friday. Felt pretty good despite yesterday my tris were still a touch sore. I was happy with the incline barbell bench. I wanted to get more than my body weight for the working sets. It was tough, but I did it. The last rep of the last set of military press was ugly. Surprised I didn't snap my lower back! It was hard to stay tight since my lower back is still sore.

When I first started lifting, I followed Max OT. U'm not going to get into it completely, but one of the principles is to have a rep range of 4-6. I'm thinking about doing this on my power days for the movements after the first two exercises. Currently, I go 6-8.

Break also starts tomorrow. It won't be much of a break though. I will be working my second job a little more and I have to prep for two new classes I will begin teaching the third week in January.

If you're interested in really building strength I think the 4-6 is a great add to the power days. I'm more interested in size so I always tried to stay on the high side of the strength rep scheme

I responded really well to the 4-6 range. Max OT not only helped me with strength, but also size which is why I was thinking about going that route.

Pull Hypertrophy

Curious to see how training will go since I will be training fasted for the next week, including today. I discovered a new cable attachment at my gym today. It is for triceps, it has the V for those pressdowns, then at the base, the bar extends straight. I thought I could possibly slide this under the bar for tbar rows and this would allow me to use n overhand grip, like a barbell row, versus the traditional tbar row neutral grip. It did work! It made the move more difficult than regular tbar rows since I could pull further up. With a neutral grip, your hands hit your chest/stomach, this was avoided with this attachment. This means I could not go as heavy. I had to drop the weight as you'll see.

Lower Power

Today's squatting was difficult. My legs felt fine, but I just did not feel strong. I don't know if it is because yesterday was a low carb day/calorie day and I usually have a high carb/calorie day the day before I train legs. I went 5 pounds heavier than my last 5x5. I stick with 255 for the last two 5x5 days so I wanted to bump it up to 260. One thing I noticed was that th last rep or two of the set I just couldn't maintain my tightness. Getting out of the whole was not the issue, just around the mid way point was the issue. I could tell I was one my toes for some of the reps as well

Mixability - Next to perfect. It does have a little leucine and GMS in it which accounts for some tiny particle, but not a big issue.

Profile - This is more of a pump product than a stim product. It does have 100 mg of caffeine, but it is geared towards a pump with 1.5g of GMS, 750mg of agmatine and 100mg of Norvaline.

Energy - Like I mentioned, this is not a stmi heavy product. I used both packets in a fasted state so I did not need that much caffeine. In the fasted state, it was enough. If I was going after work, I would need at least 2 scoops.

Pumps - Pretty good. I respond well to GMS. I used this on a low rep leg day and a high rep push day. Both days the pumps were solid. Especially for the leg day. I was surprised how much of a leg pump I had with the low reps.

Focus - Focus was very good. Not tunnel vision good, but very solid.

Taste - Both flavors were very good. I'm not a big fan of orange, but I liked how it wasn't overly sweet. I would not be able to go through an entire tub though. Only because I'm not an orange fan. I really enjoy Blue Raspberry flavors, but too often, they are overly sweet. This was ot the case with this blue raspberry. The flavoring is solid. If you like sweet products, then you may be a little disappointed. But if you're like me and sweetness does not matter, you'll love these.

Overall - This is a great product for those that do not like high stimulant pwo products or want something more pumped based with low stims during a stim break. This can be tacked with many other pwo products. Stack it with something more pumped based for really intense pumps or something higher stim to get those stims a pump. The pumps were very solid with this product on both a high and low rep day. Overall, I would recommend this product for those that are not tolerant to stims or those that are looking for a pump based pre with a tiny kick.9/10

Mixability - Perfect.

Profile - First, I need to give AEN credit for not having a prop blend. A lot of times when a product contains the kitchen sink, the ingredients are hidden by a prop blend. AEN fully discloses the amount of each and every ingredient. 300mg of caffeine and 50mg of a sustained release caffeine help provide energy through the training session. The caffeine is accompanied by a full dose of creatine and 6 grams of waxy mazie which helps with muscle fullness and to help combat fatigue during the training session.

Energy - I used this on a day which I spent a lot of time in the gym. It was my heavy back day which normally takes a while due to my warmups taking a decent amount of time and the amount of working sets on deadlifts I do. I had enough energy throughout the entire training session, especially in the beginning.

Pumps - Pretty good for a heavy back day. I attribute some of this to the 6 grams of waxy maize. I train about 3 hours after my pre workout meal on deadlift days. Muscle fullness and pumps were there despite not having any substantial amount of carbs pre workout.

Taste - This was strawberry margarita. it was not a straight strawberry flavor. It had a hint of strawberry which I really enjoyed. It was a tad sweet for my liking, but overall very good. It was a little thicker which may be due to the waxy maize, this s something that I think changed the taste.

Overall - I would suggest this product for those that either train fasted and/or need something high stim. I would suggest it in a fasted state due to the 6 grams of waxy maze. This will definitely help those in a fasted state with pumps, fullness and endurance. For those that need a high stim, it is self explanatory; there is 350mg of caffeine. I enjoyed this flavor, not my favorite, but still pretty enjoyable. I love that this is not a prop blend. The ingredients are well dosed as well.10/10

Mixability - Perfect.

Profile - For a single scoop, 175mg of caffeine and 3g of creatine. This is how I used the product. One could do 2 scoops to get the additional caffeine and this would be a nice stim heavy product. However, creatine would be over dosed, but it would provide a nice dose of CM. I do like that it does not hide behind a prop blend also.

Energy/Focus - I like that a single scoop provided me with enough energy and ficus to get through my workout. If I did need to go two scoops, it would still provide enough in both aspects.

Pumps - I did not notice an difference here

Taste - Overall, it was good, but way too sweet for me. The picture does not due the color justice. It was super red. The flavor was fruit punch and did taste like fruit punch, but just too similar to a sugary drink. Also, looking at the label, about 30-35% of the ingredients are going to be for dye and coloring. I'm not against sweeteners or anything like that, but it could be toned down some..

Overall - If one is looking for a pre workout that can be used in either a moderate or high stim scenario, I would suggest this. However, if said person would like a boost in a pump in addition, I would suggest to look elsewhere. I do like how the formula is not hidden behind a prop blend, but the creatine would be overdosed at 2 scoops and at a single scoop, there needs to be more CM. The taste was way too sweet for my liking too. This is not a bad product, but there are better products out there that achieve the same thing.7/10

AntM Reviews Giant Sports Metabolic Bioshock

Mixability - A little foam at the top, but that is due to the amino acids the product contains. Also, the BCAA ratio is 4:1:! which means more leucine which does not dissolve well unless the product sits.

Profile - A single scoop is a nice buzz for someone that does not like a stim heavy product, however, at a single scoop everything is under dosed. Two scoops are needed to get an aequate amount of creatine and LCLT. I do like the addition of aminos, but think 5g for a single scoop and 10g for two scoops would have been better. Especially for those training fasted or if the pre workout meal was way before the workout.

Energy/Focus - Good and clean energy. Ficus was nothing amazing, but slightly elevated.

Pumps - Slightly better, but nothing to rave about.

Taste - This was the lemonade flavor. I am not a fan of straight lemonade products. With that said, I was not a fan of this. way too lemonade like, including sweetness, for my liking..

Overall - A good product and well dosed product at two scoops, but some may not be able to handle two scoops since that would provide 300mg of caffeine. For that person, the rest of the formulas is under dosed. I am curious as to how GS came to an amino blend of 3,150mg. Personally, I would like to see this raised to 5000mg per single scoop. .7/10

Mixability - Perfect

Profile - It is a prop blend. I do not know how much caffeine or anything else that is in there. One can take a guess, but cannot be certain.

Energy/Focus - I used this on a day where I would normally need a heavier stim product. I felt fine, but did not have as much energy as I would like. Focus was pretty good though. This makes me think this is a lower stim product. I thought that looking at the label, but wanted to kind of self verify if you will

Pumps - Way better for pumps than for energy and focus. I do like the addition of the beet root. I seem to respond well to it. Vascularity was pretty good throughout the session.

Taste - The flavor was crushing punch. I was a little nervous because I thought it would be overly sweet since crushing was in the name. It was a very subtle punch flavor. I wish it had a tad more sweetness. It was just a little too bland, but not bad. It just got old really quick.

Overall - Everything is hidden behind a prop blend so I cannot comment on the profile except for that I hate that it is a prop blend. I do like that it does not have creatine. I always prefer adding my own. The energy and focus were not for me, I needed more. I think the amount would have been fine for me if I had trained first thing in the morning. This product shines more in the pump and endurance area. Both were improved a lot better than focus and energy. If one is looking for a low/moderate stim product with a nice pump blend, I would suggest this, but would not suggest it for those that like a stim heavy product.6/10

AntM Reviews BPI Best BCAA

Invalid Link Removed

Taste - This was fruit punch. It was the perfect balance of sweetness. Not overly sweet, but not plain either.

Price - I have seen it for around $27 for 30 servings. This seems pricey, and it is for only 5 grams of BCAA, but I will address this in the next section.

Profile - 5 grams of BCAA per serving and a CLA Matrix for fat loss highlight Best BCAA. Honestly, I do not buy the fat loss properties and think the product could do without this. Also, the price is high because Best BCAA uses "OLIGOPEPTIDES" which is "The oligiopeptide-based branched chain amino acids may act as a better transport vehicle, allowing for more efficient metabolization, greater bio-activity, enhanced onset time, and a generally improved BCAA model. And, the scientific minds at BPI Sports didn't stop here ..." and then the ad talks about how new scientific research has shown this model is the best, etc. However, there are no references to these scientific findings. Maybe I'm being over critical here, but if a product is going to state scientific research, it should be referenced. Personally, I do not buy into this, maybe someone has literature that will change my mind. Just talking into account the profile minus this new BCAA model, it is average.

Overall - The one flavor I had was spectacular. there are absolutely no complaints there. However, I think the product is overpriced for what is in it. If the product was cheaper, then I would recommend it. Maybe if I see something more concrete about this new BCAA model, my mind would change. Also, I do not think the CLA matrix is needed. 6/10

Taste - Absolutely fantastic. It had a great balance of lemon and lime. I would say 55/45 lime to lemon. I love when a company has a duel flavor and it delivers.

Price - About $25 for 30 servings or $40 for 50. Overpriced IMO.

Profile - Regen provides 6 grams of BCAA at a 2:1:1 ratio. [It mixes fine due to the ratio. The addition of coconut water does nothing for me and the CM should be dosed higher.

Overall - Although the flavor is great, the product is over priced IMO. One can find BCAA products with the same amount of BCAA and great taste for a lower price. If one wanted to stay in this price range, there are better options out there that either provide more BCAA in a single scoop and/or offer more in the overall product.6/10

I can confirm Best BCAA tastes amazing.

I can confirm Best BCAA tastes amazing.

Seconded. Flavor is great. Profile to price is awful.

Regen is actually pretty solid as its almost always bogo. Not a bad deal for a decent profile.

Push Hypertrophy

Weight - 149.6

Weight is down 2 pounds from last week. Last week's weigh in was high, but I was not expecting to be down this much. I was not going to increase cals this week and do a little cardio since I'm not working this week. I'm going to increase cals by 25 each day I may still do a little cardio, but not as much as I was originally planning.

With the decrease in weight, I'm happy with yesterday's squatting session even though it was very difficult. I was also very pleased with today's session. Last time I had 7x8 for incline/flat db bench press, I was able to use the 60s for my first 4 sets and then had to go down to 55s for the final 3 sets. I was able to stick with the 60s for all 7 sets.

Training

Incline DB Press 60 - 90 sec rest

60x8,8,8,8
60x8,8,8 (flat)

This week was 7x8

This week calls for 3x8.

Mixability - Perfect

Profile - It is a prop blend. However, the caffeine content is listed. There is 350 mg per scoop. With that in mind, agmatine is the second to last ingredient. This product is not good for pumps, but it is good for an energy boost. The prop blend is 4.975 grams. Creatine is the first ingredient listed followed by beta alanine. If I had to guess, both a under dosed. If the BA is at 1.6 or 1.5g, that leaves about 3.3 to 3.4 grams. Caffeine is 350mg, so then it would drop down to ~3g for the rest of the ingredients. If BA is at 1.5 or 1.6g, which is under dosed, then creatine would be lass than 3g which is also under dosed. If creatine is at 3g, then everything else is severely under dosed. I added an extra 2.5g of my own creatine to make sure I got at least 3 grams.

Energy/Focus - Very good. But at 350mg, it should be.

Pumps - Nothing out of the ordinary. But like I said above, the formula is more stim based than pump.

Taste - The flavor was berry blast. It was a mixed berry flavor. It was very, very good. One type of berry was not over represented. It was nice and light with a touch of sweetness. Very enjoyable.

Overall - Honestly, the product is terrible in terms of what you get in it for the price. It is just under a dollar a serving is just a great tasting glorified caffeine drink with maybe enough creatine. One would need to use two scoops to get the full dose of caffeine and maybe BA, but I do not think a full two scoops would even give 3.2g of BA. But, there is 350mg of caffeine in 1 one scoop, so there is no way I would recommend going over 1.5 scoops. Although the taste is good, the formula is straight up bad and not worth the money..4/10

Pull Power

Hamstrings were sore again for this day. I was curious to see if I could pull what I wanted to. Not because of my hamstrings, but because I had 3 low carb days in a row before today's session. Usually it is 2 days. Also, I was going fasted compared to having two meals in me, one containing starchy carbs prior to deadlifting. All went well though!

Also, you'll notice I went with the 4-6 rep range for exercises after the first two. Usually it is 6-8 reps. I did go a touch heavier, but I focused more on TUT and contracting the muscle very hard.

Training

Deadlift 3-5 min rest

335x4,4,4,4,4,4

Rack Pulls 90 - 120 sec rest

Weighted Wide Grip Pullup 60 - 90 sec rest

AntM Reviews Labrada Super Charge

Mixability - The picture is a little misleading. It sat for about 5 minutes while I got dressed and made my bed. That is why you see the settling at the bottom. The foaming at the top is accurate. It is due to the 5g of BCAA. You know it is the BCAA because you can smell it. If you have every used bulk BCAA before, you know what I'm talking about. Overall, not bad.

Profile - A single scoop is 27 grams, it is huge. Some of the highlights in this enormous serving are 300mg of caffeine, a full 5g of creapure creatine, 1g of Cirtulline Nitrate (to help with blood flow), 5g of BCAA at a 2:1:1 ratio, 2 grams HydroMax and 1.5g of Tyrosine. Yes, there is more than that, but those are the highlights. As you can see, the product is generously dosed and is a complete open label.

Energy/Focus - Energy was clean and focus was on point. Not laser like, but I was able to focus on my workout easily.

Pumps - Considering this was a heavy pull day, pumps were very good. My rep range for everything was 4-6. I did not do any direct bicep work and my bicep vein was really showing. Can't imagine how good the pumps would be on a high rep day.

Taste - This was the raspberry lemonade flavor. I was nervous it would taste more like lemonade than raspberry. I am not a lemonade fan. I was pleasantly surprised that the taste was more raspberry than lemonade. It was a nice raspberry taste with a hint of lemonade with a little tartness after I swallowed the water. I really enjoyed it.

Overall - My overall rating is for me and I will explain this further. For me, this is a perfect pre workout for any scenario. I am naturally stim tolerant and 300mg of caffeine is great. Also, I usually train fasted or 2-3 hours after a meal so I love the inclusion of BCAA. Also, a single scoop contains your daily amount of creatine. So for me, the product is perfect. Now, if you do not like high stim products, I would look elsewhere. Not because it is not a good product, but because if one goes with a half scoop for 150mg of caffeine, everything else will be under dosed. SuperCharge is a great all in one PWO for those that love a high stim product, but perhaps not the best for someone that does not like a stim heavy product. If it mixed better, it would be absolutely perfect.9/10

Taste - This was Punch Blast. It had a punch flavor, but not like an overly sweet Hawaiin Punch. It was light with a touch of sweetness. I really enjoyed it.

Price - About $29 for 30 servings, over priced in my opinion.

Profile - Amino 5.0 provides 5 grams of BCAA and 1.5 grams of both lysine and ornithine. These are supposed to speed up recovery.

Overall - Although the flavor is great, the product is over priced IMO. 5 grams of BCAA and 1.5 grams of the other two aminos. One can find a better profile for a better value per serving. Yes it tastes good, but it is essentially just a generic BCAA product. It does not warrant the price tag.6/10

See Boone's post. Great flavor but way overpriced.

Not a bad deal at all then!

Yeah I find all BCAA's useless for me now as they break my IF and I eat tons of meat, but as a guilt-free tasty drink, BBCAA is so far the best I've tasted. I'm open to other flavour suggestions. I doubt I'll be buying BCAAs for a long while though.

I had two samples, so this is based off using it for two nights.

Overall - Sleep was slightly deeper than normal. Nothing mind blowing or out of this world. I did not feel any more relaxed or tired than I normally would. Does the product work, yes, but I would just stick with a cheaper generic ZMA option or even just good old Melatonin.

Ya this is one that has to be doses longer term as the effects are much more cumulative vs acute.
