Calf update...Swelling is down a little. I can see the bone in the back of my ankle. It is tight as hell right now, but it always is after sleeping. I am going to do some light stretching for the calf post workout today. I am going to do legs as well. Where I would normally do my 10 sets for calves, I will add in some other exercises to reach the same volume.

Love that machine row. If it's the same one I'm thinking I use it to finish off my upper back every week

Totally agree with that, machine rows are the best! Use all different grips on it and go all amrap. :D

Legs Hypertrophy


So when I woke up this morning, swelling in my ankle was almost non existent, when I got home from training, it was swollen again. Not like it has been though. It is probably due to me being on my legs and working my legs. Swelling in legs takes forever to go away unless one is bed ridden and doesn't do anything. Even then, it is difficult because it is difficult to elevate them.

I did some dynamic stretching and rested my ankle and calf on the rumble roller pre workout. I got into the power rack to front squat, not happening. Tried back squatting, not happening. I was going down slowly on the negative so I wouldn't do more damage. I felt like I wouldn't be able to get the depth I usually do and I felt unstable. So instead of doing 8 sets of front squats and 3 on leg press, I said F it and did 11 sets on the leg press. I wanted to use another machine, but it was taken and I wasn't going to wait.

After my session when I was showering, I noticed a new bruise that was not there this morning. It was right at the crease of the back of my knee above the injured area. It does not hurt. However, when I did my leg press and smith squats, it was not comfortable. It was tight in that area. I do not think it was because of the injury though. I had on compression socks that went right above that area, compression pants, and knee sleeves. When I did my bad calf knee sleeve, the top of the socks rolled down and bunched up in that area, so I think that is what caused the bruise. I bruise easily because I take a 316 mg tablet of aspirin daily. I can rest a plate against my knee and have a little bruise the next day.

As the session went on, my calf loosened up. I did everything I normally would do, except for squats and direct calf work. I also did 15 minutes of cardio post workout.

Tomorrow is an off day. I am going to do some HIIT cardio though. I will be using the battle ropes. I have never used them before so I have to look up a beginners routine for that. Ab work and mobility will be done too.

I finally decided to crack open my Amino IV from my CPBC purchase from PES. I was excited to try it since I've heard so many great things. The flavor I got was the Blue Raspberry. I tried both 1 and 2 scoops. The flavor at 1 scoop is very subtle. There is more than a hint of a raspberry flavor, but nothing mind blowing. At 2 scoops, the flavor is a littler sweeter. It is a nice light flavor. Nothing overpowering. One thing I wish this flavor had was more tartness. When I eat raspberries, that is what I really look forward to. In terms of recovery, it was a sample, baby bottle from what you can see so I cannot accurately judge that. However, going off taste along and the reputation of PES, I would buy and tub and recommend a person to purchase it as well.

I have had a tub of the Vanilla that I went through fast, it was great. I also have a Chocolate on deck. I loved the Vanilla so I had high expectations for this. I am not a big fan of CnC flavors. For the most part, they just taste like a Vanilla to me unless they have some sweetness to them. This had no sweetness to it. I was quite disappointed given how much I enjoyed the Vanilla. Yes, I noted I am not much of a CnC guy, but I thought given the sweetness of the Vanilla, the CnC would hav a very sweet, Oreo like flavor.
 
We have that as well. I have a love hate relationship with it. I love it for the reason you specified, but hate it for all the dbags that load it up, can barely do their reps, and then leave all the plates on.

Haha I know the feeling. I use it with 25's and then like 4 tens and do drop sets with stretching in between. The pump is amazing.

Off Day


Went in and did some ab work today. I also did some cardio. I did not use the battle ropes like I intended because I did not want my arms of shoulders to be sore for tomorrow's power push day. Calf held up fine. I used the staionary bike. I did not feel any discomfort in the calf. It is tight today, but not more sore than previous days. One issue I am having is sleeping though. About 2-3 hours into sleeping. I wake up due to the tightness and it is unberable. I do not want to take the muscle relaxers I have, but might. Any ideas how to make sleep more tolerable?

I bought compression sleeves today, might wear the one at night.

I have some icy hot. I did not know if I should avoid it though because of the heat. It has been 6 days, but there is still come swelling. From what I have read, the heat should be avoided when swollen, but I have also read it is fine to use heat after the first 72 hours. If I can use heat, I would just sleep with a heating pad on low.

I am not a big fan of desserts, but I absolutely love cheesecake and key lime pie. Needless to say, I was excited, nervous, and skeptical about this flavor. I was skeptical because I doubt it would taste like key lime pie. I was nervous because when I think of key lime pie, I think of a thick, creamy texture. Something I do not want in my intra workout product. Also, I did not think the two flavors, key lime pie and cherry, could work together. First, the key lime portion, there was a lemon lime flavor. Not all lemon and not all lime, a nice 50/50 split. I got that as soon as it went in my mouth. Right before swallowing and thereafter, I got hit with a hint of cherry.The best thing I can compare it to is Luigi's Italian Ice. Imagine when it melts, you have that juice at the bottom. Take the juice from the lemon, drink it and then drink the juice from the cherry. It was very refreshing and I enjoyed it greatly. The profile is good too. 8 grams of aminos per serving.

Push Power


One week down, hopefully only 3 more, max, to go. It has been 1 week with this strain. I've read that it will take 4-8 weeks, probably 6 though, to fully heal.

Today's session was a rough one. I don't know if it is because I did not sleep well again due to the pain, the fact it was a low carb day yesterday, or because I was still groggy from muscle relaxer I took. No excuses though, I was able to power through this day and overall, it was solid.

I also did the battle ropes for 7 or 8 rounds post workout. That stuff is hard. Those ropes are a lot heavier than I thought and it tkes a lot out of your upper body.

Lower Power


First off, let me say happy fourth of July to everyone.

I went into the gym thinking I was going to do leg press as my main movement since squatting was difficult on Tuesday. I warmed up like I normally would. All three power racks were open, so I took it as a sign. I did the bar and I was tight, but tht was expected since I haven't squatted in two weeks.

I proceeded to add weight, first, a 25, then a 45, then a 45 and 25 and then a 10 on top of that. The more I progressed, the looser my calf seemed to get. I had that tightness in the same spot as Tuesday, right were I know the injury is. I think the combo of the compression socks and the knee sleeves makes it a tad worse.

I put 225 on the bar. I missed last week which called for 6 sets of 4 reps. I decided to stick with the plan and go with 7 sets of 3. If I was healthy, I probably would have gone for 245 or 250. I decided to stick with 225 though. The first set was shaky, probably due to my confidence being low and my CNS. Each set got better. I was pretty strong out of the hole, which was surprising. The thing that scared me the most was the walk out.

I am not going to do direct calf work until all pain/tightness is gone. Maybe next Tuesday, the 14th, I will do some light calf work since that is my hypertrophy day and it will be just shy of 3 weeks. I am not going to rush it though. If I can squat and everything else, I can't complain. The only thing I couldn't do, or maybe I could have, was lying leg curls. The stretch at the bottom seemed to bother my calf a tad after one set, so I decided to do them seated.

The calf now has a light yellow bruise on the soleus, right under the gastro. The gastro is still a little tight too.

I bought heel elevators yesterday and they help so much with my walking. I was not into the hype at first, but they really do help. They shorten the length the calf has to travel while walking. I can even walk on an incline with them.

Thanks man. I'm debating whether or not to go into work tomorrow. My manager said I don't have to. I'm starting the summer school job on Monday, so having that one extra day where I won't be on my feet may be beneficial. I've been on my feet most of the day and the calf just feels tired now. We'll see. I'll probably feel better if I go to work.

Push Hypertrophy


Weight - 147

Weighed in at 1.4 pounds lighter than last week. It has been 6 weeks since I started tracking my weight and I'm down .4 pounds total. I am going to up my calorie intake this week. I will be more active too since summer school teaching begins tomorrow. I will be on my feet a lot more. I am going to increase each low carb day by 50 cals, in the form of fat.

This morning, my leg was less swollen. The roundness at the bottom of my calf is almost visible. I still cannot flex and contract the muscle though. I decided not to go to my second job today since today will be my final day I can keep my leg up until Saturday.

Summer school starts tomorrow and I have an interview at the Vitamin Shoppe. That job wouldn't begin until August 1 which is perfect since summer school ends on July 31. That would give me two jobs through August and hopefully a teaching psoition will be mine for September. I still have not heard anything though.

Also, pain a night has been less the past two nights, but still disrupting my sleep. I was restless from 4:30-6:30 this morning. I am going to call my transplant nurse practitioner to see if she can prescribe something for me.

Mixability - Perfect, see the two pictures. A tiny bit of foam, but nothing extreme. No clumps and I did not use a whisk or anything else in the shaker. 10/10

Profile - Some fat burning ingredients, caffeine, and an electrolyte blend make up Furious. Honestly, it is not all that impressive and is a little confusing. 2g of beta alanine per serving. So, I get more than a half serving per scoop, but if I go with two scoops it is more than the suggested 3.2 grams dose.7/10

Energy - Nothing crazy, a little boost with one scoop, but nothing to write home about.7/10

Focus - Focus was pretty good. Nothing laser like, but I was focused throughout my entire workout. I also noticed a better mood.. 8/10

Overall - A confusing profile with nothing mind blowing energy wise. If you are looking for something more explosive in terms of energy, look elsewhere. Focus is okay, nothing great, but I did notice some mood enhancing, probably due to the fat burning properties. However, it does taste pretty damn good. 8/10

This was the Orange Juiced flavor. It mixed alright. There were no clumps, but some of the aminos did not dissolve throughout my entire workout. The formula is great. It contains both BCAA and EAA along with other goodies such as Agmatine. It is hard to tell from the picture, but it is actually a little on the thicker side. I added more water eventually and it was still thick. Nothing like a milk shake, but a little thicker than just water. The taste was excellent. Between the consistency and the taste, I swear someone could mistake this for Sunny Delight. It reminded me of my childhood when I used to like juices like that. Given everything, I would give Juiced Aminos a 9/10

Man, I was spent after deadlifts and pullups today. I have never done 8 sets at a higher weight percentage before. I honestly did not think I was going to make it through all 8 sets, but it got easier as I went on. Also, no calf discomfort during the deadlifts, which is a good sign.

I also got lucky with the classroom I got assigned for my classes for summer school...I have an AC!

Update on my injury. Last night was the first night since the injury, about 11 days ago, that I did not have a lot of pain/discomfort while sleeping. I got up once to ice it, but my calf wasn't nearly as sore. Previously, I was waking up 4-6 times a night due to the pain, last night, just once. I also noticed that my walking in morning was really good. Usually it takes me a few hours to feel good walking on it, but it was right out of bed today!

Mixability - Perfect. I shook it, waited a few minutes and as you can see, no foam. 10/10

Profile - Assuming there is 3g of DAA in a single scoop, everything else would be under dosed. The creatine, beta alanine might be a full dose at 2 scoops, but then one may be over 3g of DAA. It is impossible to tell since it is a prop blend. It would be nice if the DAA amount was disclosed..6/10

Energy - Nothing crazy, a little boost with one scoop, but nothing to write home about. I was disappointed with this aspect. I used the old Speed X3 and had a crazy amount of energy. I'm assuming this aspect is different in this version.7/10

Pump - I had a really good pump in my back, especially considering I used this on a power day. I respond well to beet root powder. 9/10

Focus - Nothing amazing to be honest. 7/10

Taste - This was the grape flavor. At first, there was a nice grape flavor, not too sweet. However, after a second in my mouth, it became too sweet for me and did not remind me of grapes. It was more like an artificial candy grape flavor that I did not enjoy. 7/10

Overall - It is hard to judge the profile of this product. If the DAA is dosed where it should be, then the other ingredients will not be dosed where they should. That means two scoops would dose the BA and Creatine at or near where they should be, but over dose the DAA. The taste was not up my alley either with a sweet after taste that made it seem more like a candy. I would like to see how much DAA is in the product to better asses if I should use two scoops or not. Personally, if one wants to run DAA, I would suggest buying a seperate DAA product and adding it to the stack that person is already running. 7/10

I was contemplating doing some body weight calf raises today at the end of my leg workout, but decided against it. Thursday will be two weeks. Maybe Saturday after legs I will try something, but probably not. Ideally, I am going to wait until all tightness goes away to do any isolation work. Until then, just band stretches, ankle rotations, rumble roller, and toe raises.

Not only that, but I find it impossible to keep my lower back on the pad the deeper I go. I think it is the way the machine is configured. I have watched many of Marc Lobliner's videos and he has the same problem.

I am certified in 7-12 Social Studies, but for this summer school job, I am overseeing a health class. Regardless of the subject, I would be bored out of my mind. Everything is online. The kids are on computers and all the work, tutorials, etc are online. The only thing I do is unlock tests for them, which I do from my computer. There is literally 0 teaching. It is just a way for the school to give the students the credits they do not have to pass them along.

How you been Anthony? I have my two week follow up on Friday. Pretty sure I'll still be on 5lb restrictions, that sucks lol.

Off Day


Last night, I was a little more restless than the previous night. It wasn't my calf that was bothering me though, it was my ankle. Once I got home last night, I was doing a lot of ankle rotations and flexion yesterday to help loosen the calf, so maybe I over did it. This morning, the calf just feels really tight. Not weak, but tight. I have had it up all morning at the school.

Profile - PEA and Caffeine makes this one for people that enjoy stims and/or a laser like focus. It also contains GMS and Potassium Nitrate to help deliver nice pumps..8/10

Energy - Good. More than your normal pre workout, but not the strongest I have tried. However, this was a single scoop. With that said, it delivered pretty well considering it was just a single scoop I used.8/10

Pump - Very good, almost painful. Vascularity was good as well. 10/10

Focus - Pretty good. Nothing laser like, but noticeable. 8/10

Taste - I was excited because iForce always delivers with the flavors. HemaVol is amazing when it comes to the flavors. I was disappointed with the taste of this. It was a lot ore sour than any other of the lemon drop flavors I have tried from iForce. One or two of the ingredients probably throws off the flavoring. If you enjoy sourness, you'd like it. However, I hate sourness! 7/10

Overall - Remember, this is all based on one scoop. I personally think most user would be happy with Max Out at a single scoop. I was. However, if I was really dragging pre training, I would need 1.5 scoops which I think would be plenty for me. The profile is good, minus the prop blend, which I am not a fan of. The focus was good along with the energy. I was disappointed with the flavor knowing how well iForce usually flvors products. All in all, if you are looking for a higher stim product, Max Out is a good option. Oh yea, and do not get turned off by the color of the powder and the liquid. The powder has a brown, almost light dirt like color to it. Once mixed, the water is also slightly brown. I think mine looked yellow due to taking the picture outside. 8/10

I got the second rep and said why not to a third. I got stuck about half way up, he had his fingers there, but didn't even touch the bar. Somehow, I got it up. It was honestly the slowest rep ever. That was complete failure.

Calf update - Calf is feeling slightly better day by day. Still has that isolated tight feeling, but other than that, not too much discomfort. Also, pain at night has subsided. So I think I am not going to take any muscle relaxers tonight, just Tylenol and see if I am pain free.

I was not planning on skipping it lol. Those heavy sets are funny. I do not feel winded at all and feel like I can go again, but my muscles are so tired and are like you better rest up bud lol. The last set of 5 on the deloads are not AMRAP, correct?

Mixability - Perfect, no complaints here. 10/10

Profile - It is literally the kitchen sink. Honestly, it is one of those instances where more does not mean better. If you want to look it up, do so, but put your reading glasses on. I think they were aiming for well rounded product, but it did not shine in any particular area..7/10

Energy - Honestly, almost next to nothing. A slight boost in overall energy, but barely noticeable..6/10

Pump - Nothing out of the ordinary. 6/10

Focus - I sound like a broken record, but nothing out of the ordinary. 6/10

Taste - I had the Fruit Berry Punch flavor. It was very good. It wasn't quite a fruit punch, but not a full berry flavor either. It had nice tones of both flavors that were represented well One did not overpower the other. It was a tad on the sweet side in 8 ounces of water, but not overly sweet. 9/10

Overall - The only thing this pre workout has going for it is its flavor or at least the flavor I had. When you look at the profile, you mind will be blown at how much stuff is in it. In terms of effectives, I would say it was mediocre at best. I think ALLMAX tried to make a truly all in one pre workout. However, they should have just focused on making it a stim heavy product or a pumped based product. I applaud their attempt, but it did not work out too well. 6/10

Yep its not an endurance thing, its totally cns and overall overload. you dont feel the "burn" but the fatigue is crazy. I've had days where i finished squats or deads and just wanted to go to bed ha.

The deload week should not be close to failure at all. Its meant to be an "easy" week that has enough loading to keep your body in the "I need this muscle" mindset, but to place almost zero true fatigue on the mind and body. I would lower the weights to a good bit less than you would for a normal 5x5 and no AMRAP.

I know what you mean about feeling like you can go to bed right after those heavy doubles! I have squats tomorrow for the heavy doubles, I cannot wait!

I remember your email about the 5x5 being lower this week compared to the first 5x5. I may keep the bench 5x5 the same as the first go around, but that's only because it was super light to being with, 9 reps on the AMRAP set. Depending on how many reps I got on the AMRAP set, I will drop the weight by 10 - 20 pounds give or take.

Pull Hypertrophy


Had a crazy pump going today. I cannot wait for tomorrow's training session. Heavy doubles for squats. That will be the last heavy day before my deload week. After the deload week, I am going for one rep maxes on my heavy days. Good news, I only paid $2.15 a dozen for eggs today. Beats the hellish price they were before.

Mixability - It is hard to tell in the photo, but there was a lot of foam at the top. More than your average product. No clumps though.8/10

Profile - This is supposed to be a high stim product with some pump ingrdients in it. Some of the ingredients are dosed well, while others are under dosed. Even if one took two servings, some ingredients would be under dosed while others would be over dosed. All in all though, not a bad formula..8/10

Energy - Pretty good. Nothing mind blowing, but good.8/10

Pump - I had a tremendous pump going on. More than usual and my pre workout nutrition wasn't any different. 10/10

Focus - Very solid. I was focused throughout my entire work. It wasn't like tunnel vision, but my focus was vastly improved. 9/10

Taste - I had the Watermelon flavor. Honestly, it was pretty bad. Very artificial. There was no hint of watermelon. Just a very processed and artificial tasting fruit flavor. 6/10

Overall - Pretty good pump, but some of the ingredients are under dosed while others are dosed where they should be. It is marketed as a higher stim product, which I would argue. However, the focus and pump were on point. This product does help "swell the cell" like it claims. The flavors, at least the Watermelon, needs to be looked at again. It was easily one of the worst tasting watermelon products I have ever had. And watermelon is very easy to flavor. 7/10

Lower Power


So I did not take any muscle relaxers before bed last night. I woke up around 4:30 and had a little discomfort in my ankle, I was up til around 5:30, then fell back asleep for another hour and a half.

Went to the gym this morning and it was heavy leg day. I felt very strong warming up. The squats called for 8x2 with AMRAP last set just like all of the heavy days this week. Last week, I wrote I would do 230 for my working sets, I was thinking I was going to do 235. My warm ups felt great so I put 245 on the bar after doing 205 for a single.

All of the sets went great. The walk out felt a lot better than last week and I was strong out of the hole. I think it was a combination of my calf being more stable and squatting the week before. Last week, I had not squatted for 1.5 weeks. Whenever I take a week off, I am always shaky coming back, which is why I prefer deloads to actual time off.

On the last set, I got my first rep easily, on the second, it was a little tougher. I think on the *******, I straightened my leg too much, I felt a little twinge in my calf. I decided to do another rep and felt the twinge again.

I was able to complete my entire workout. I can walk fine and have the same felxibility as yesterday, The area that I hurt 16 days ago just feels tighter than it has the past week and is a little more tender to touch. I may have tweaked it a little. I'm waiting a few hours to see if I can walk on it. When I hurt it initially, it took a few hours before I noticed I couldn't walk. I think I just overworked it today.

Hahahaha I just spent like 5min trying to figure out what "good/bad girls" were. Finally hit me ;) never heard that before. Love it.
 
Calf is getting a little more sore as the day goes on. It might be because I took a hot bath too. Could have made the swelling worse. It's odd though, it is not in the same place. The pain before was in back of the right calf, very close to the outside of the calf. This is now in the middle of the calf. I ca walk better than last time, but when I contract, push off my toes when walking, it is not comfortable.

Mixability - A little foaming, some of it did not go away. 9/10

Profile - It is GMS, caffeine, yohimbine and some other stuff. Nice and simple. It is a prop blend, so it is unknown the doses of each ingredient..8/10

Energy - Very good. I had the whole packet, which is two scoops. It was clean with no crash. My past experience with yohimbine has been a rapid heart rate, shakiness, and anxiety. I did not suffer that and I took it on an empty stomach in a fasted state.10/10

Pump - Nothing out of the ordinary, but it was a lower rep day and I reaggervated an injury so I could not focus on that. 7/10

Focus - Before I reaggervated my injury, focus was on point. Not tunnel vision like, but close. 9/10

Taste - I had the Snow Cone flavor. I had it in just over 8 ounces of water. It was very sweet, this could be resolved with more water. The taste was on point though. The sweetness did not remind me of a snow cone. At least the snow cones I have had have never been that sweet. It reminded more of a firecracker Popsicle, at least I think that is what they're called. It was tasting, no complaints, except for the sweetness.9/10

Overall - Awesome tasting pre workout with nice clean energy and solid focus. Pumps could have been better, but I did use lower reps today. I would caution people that do not respond to yohimbine though. Due to the prop blend, we do not know how much is in a single scoop. It can be guesstimated by looking at the label, but still, tread carefully. 9/10
 
Just got home from a long day, I will post the workout later, but here is an update on my injury. I had a small bruise on my calf this morning. As the day went on, I gained more flexibility and range or motion. It is not nearly as sore as it was yesterday. When I took a shower after the gym, I noticed I have a new bruise, but it is hard to see how big it is under the tape I have on my calf. It's weird that there is a new bruise, but it feels better than this morning. Maybe because I have been on my feet all day up to this point. I had to work this morning and was standing/walking on concrete all day, went to the gym to train, and then had to come home to meal prep. I also ordered a tall walking boot to help with recovery. I was reading that these help with recovery from calf strains.

Also, I think I solved the mystery to my ankle pain. I noticed a bruise on the outside bottom portion of my foot. I think it is from the calf sleeve I have been wearing. Right where the bruise is is where I get the pain at night. I am going to discontinue using it and see how it gets.

Push Hypertrophy


Weight - 145.8

II have officially been on this program for a month now. You'll notice that the hypertrophy days now are going to repeat from week one. My goal is to increase the weight for the sets of the first and possibly second exercises.

Down 1.2 pounds from last week. Not too surprising since I started the summer school job, so I am more active. Instead of increasing cals this week, I am dropping my Wednesday cardio session.
