this chick was trending on X a few weeks back in completely non-nude harmless G rated pics but the comments were all very clear that whoever this chick was, was a big deal among those enthusiasts of the red light arts. Took me about 3 seconds of gooling to realize I definitely recognized her from teenage years 😂 😂 😂

Seriously this argument never made any sense to me. I’m not saying don’t listen and just throw the baby out with the bath water, but before antibiotics were discovered the average lifespan was less than age 30.
to be fair though a lot of that is likely water, santization, and nutrition. The bible references the average age of men to be 70-80yrs old, not too different from today. But we had a shitty period there of people eating and drinking poo water and whatnot

I’ve read the Bible entirely and the years are entirely figurative to demonstrate an idea; they are not literal at all. People died of simple things like broken bones and otherwise minor cuts getting infected thousands of years ago.

I was thinking about this last night before I had seen your response this morning and the thoughts that were coming into my head is that while some people may feel Noah living to 950, and Moses to 120 are figurative, the fact that Psalms suggested around 3,000yrs ago that men live to 70-80yrs old is quite the coincidence to be figurative.

The bible is a collection of different works by different authors, from different times and places. So even as some could be literal (70-80), others wouldn’t necessarily be (950). EX) Does it matter if Noah lived to be 1,000 or 100 in a time where people died in their 20s? Not for the purpose of conveying blessed longevity that produced multiple generations of offspring. Either way it would tell the story well of the origins of a people & shows God’s power in action.

Anyway, if you choose to believe it all literally, it’s entirely fine that we agree to disagree.

I wouldn't call myself a Biblical Scholar, but I've been taught by a number of them. And I've spent a large portion of my life reading through the Scriptures, studying, taking classes, etc ....
There are parts of the Bible that are figurative (although Most are not).
There are many parts of the Bible that are both literal and figurative. Many parts of the Bible apply to 2 different times in history.... Some 3.

But the ages of men in the Bible is literal. Not all will believe the Bible, but our own belief or disbelief won't change the validity or truthfulness of it (one way or another).

Merry Christ mas, all!

:)

well, the three of us are going to easily find common ground more often then not and i'll save a theological debate for other threads. I've spent many decades similarly under the tutelage of bible thumpers/schollars and the conclusion I've come to is that science and scripture honestly just never contradict one another, and when they seem to its usually because we misunderstand the science or the scripture. Whether or not Noah lived to be 950 realistically doesn't have any effect on my life today so I can accept it and ponder how that happened, or how years were counted differently but the only simple point I was making is that for many thousands of years 70 to 80 has been a considered expectation and I find that interesting. the shorter lifespans in the middle coincide with some nasty human hygiene issues, disease, war, etc.

You can pull records (secular) of plenty of people who always lived to this timeframe. I actually believe humans are pushing the boundaries and I think we should all be aiming now to be 90+, personally. Look at the cause of death of the early aged folks in ancient Rome vs how the affluent were expected, 2000 years ago, to live to
be about in their 70s and 80s.....

"but those were the rich people with easy lives"
well yeah, thats sorta my point. good food, better life, better hygiene, there ya are, sitting around 70-80 lol

Yeah, we'll find Some common ground. But if you believe that everything in the Bible can be explained by what our current science and beliefs are, then the Bible (for you) would contain no miracles. ... And then n my opinion.... That would make it nothing more than an old book.
Have a great one!

At one of my other jobs, a co-worker and I would have deep thought Thursdays lol It could be anything- the bible, conspiracy theories etc... and we kept it civil. Just reminded me of that. Carry on :)
