AM memebers within the medical field/profession. Name yourselves!

Trauma1

Legend
I figured it would be cool to see who else is involved in the medical field/profession here on aminds. Whether it be an EMT, EMT-P, LPN, RN, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitoner, Phlebotomy, or Nurses Aide.

I myself as you all know am a murse. I've been a murse for approximately 8 years. Most of those years working trauma in the emergency room. I do love my job, but it's stressfull to no end at times. I plan to move on shortly into either a physician assistant or nurse anesthetist role. I'm ready to move on up! :D

Lets hear what you all do in the medical profession! :)

It sure does brother. :)

Sorry, i left pharmacy off there haha.

i almost shatted my pants and pissed on the floor when i saw sustanon 250 at my pharmacy. Soooo many pretty vials @_______@

the medical field is awesome, but their are so many cranky sick people you gotta deal with. Its hard to hold a fuse for extremely rude people or people with crazy mood swings.

Try dealing with doctors who can't chart because their keyboard wasn't plugged in lol.

LOL - I see that all the time too. Some are brilliant, yet dumb as rocks in the commen sense department.

lmao. Some doctors are serious shady people. I love it when I go through someones profile and see nothing but prescriptions for vicodin.

Whats even worst and makes me SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO angry is when this one dude picks up HIV and AIDS meds for like 10 different people. Same black dude, all patients with thousands of dollars of meds, calls in every day to see if he can refill it for 10 different people and has medicaid.

For those who don't know what this means it means he takes your tax dollars and profits from selling HIV meds. You pay your taxes, he profits. Heck if there were less criminals like this we would probably all have health care but instead, we have people ripping off the government and worst of all us, then the government takes away health care and bam. We are stuck. What sucks even more is that I have no way to send this ******* to jail. Although all the signs point to him selling the drugs, there is still no solid evidence until I have seen it with my own eyes. :/

health care field drives me nuts. Maybe this is why I have such high cortisol levels. o.0

How in the hell is he given scripts for other people and having their HIV meds dispensed to him?

Lol - You're in! ;)

Thanks buddy! I like helping those in need. My job is both rewarding and frustrating in the same aspect. :D

I agree as well. I was under the impression that you need a script for each medication you want. At the same time, I also was under the impression that I am the only one who can collect my medication due to privacy laws.

Absolutely. We're not even allowed to call in any scripts anymore for patients. Narcotics, antibiotics, general meds....nothing.

If someone is calling in to get 10 scripts of perscript. medication and you are giving it, I'm pretty sure you are distributing controlled substances, and the dude picking them up is 'trafficking' them which are both against the law.

Something is just not right there.....

No pharmacist in his/her right mind would do something like that.

it works basically like this in the pharmacy. control substances such as addy, ritilin, the C II and C III can only be given a 5 day supply. At the pharmacy we can technically write up scripts when the doctor calls in, we write the scripts ourselves and document it. CII and any controlled substance that is called in needs to have the original mailed in. It's also required that we get the serial code of the script, so the doc would write it on his end give us the serial code, and mail it for the full thing to be dispensed. Otherwise you end up only with 5 days. Thats how it works in New York State. Different states have different regulations so I don't know how it works in other states.

I have no idea. He works with other people to get the meds. The meds are written out to him, his wife, his friends and like 5-6 other friends. The dude calls in every day asking if ____________ can have his _____________ refilled. Now for medicaid we can "technically" bill it as it will go through the insurance, but since we caught on we make him wait the entire time period. For example he gets 120 count of viread at 2 caps a day. A week later or so he would call back and tries to fill it. Although the supply is for 60 days no insurance company will make you wait 60 days before picking up meds agian. It would probably be good after 45 days. Anyhow, we make him wait until 60 days before he can pick it up. As we caught on to him and started do this, he brings in MORE scripts from hospitals for different people, dropping them off, and picking up for them. Did I mention he refuses to pay a dime. (Medicaid usually has like a dollar or two copay but you can wave it)

I think the people with AIDS is legit that he works with. I think that since he figured they are screwed anyway why not make money off the state.

there are some people that are extremely happy when you help them. Those are the sane people and extremely nice. It is extremely rewarding to help them. I helped out this one old guy and explained to him in a nice and friendly tone about his meds. He later goes on saying that how he has a daughter and not a son. He mentioned at the end that if he had a son, he would want him to be just like me which I found some joy in my frustrating job when he said that to me.

HIPAA laws allow other people to pick up your meds. If there were some sort of problem in some case where someone you dont know signed for your medication then we would card you for ID every time you pick up. Certian patients request that only THEY have the ability to pick up their medication and not their parents or any relative. The one thing that privacy laws can protect you agianst is if the person bagging your meds make it obvious you have _________. Its a violation of HIPAA to sorta flaunt someones med and a law suit can occur if that happens. For example, I pull out a bottle of viagra and the person behind the customer sees it and it causes a problem.

I had one of these issues also where the receptionist told my mom about a problem and that I had to go back to the doctor for X reason. I could have went after the doctor and the clinic because my mom and my doctor are friends and privacy is hard. I decided to not cause trouble though and just switch to a different doctor who is much cooler.

HIPAA can be a giant pain in the a$$ sometimes too, I know I personally have to monitor a lot of the security for my place and I have to make sure there is no information leaks anywhere.

i know with chain pharmacy's they usually don't deny a perscription script being called in. If something is fishy though we usually investigate and report it we have proper evidence. I would say that private pharmacy's can deny prescriptions from being called in if its fishy but I think private pharmacy's care about the cash more than anything. They do have more freedom though as they are not regulated by law and the company's policy. The law is quite strict on controlled substances. You wouldnt believe how many times we WANTED to give the person a controlled, but because of the law, we legally couldnt. Some dude was going to greece and needed lunesta for sleep due to jetlag. Ran out of refills, we didnt have his full amount, we couldnt transfer the perscription and we couldnt give him a partial supply because the laws are so strict on controlled drugs. We had to call his doctor who was on vacation as an emergency cause he was like having a panic attack. The law sucks sometimes.

I frankly grow VERY tired of the pathetic drug seekers that frequent the emergency room. I love the stories though.....

Anyone that is making money off anothers misfortune is the definition of a scum bag.

HIPPA is a joke in general. More bullsh*t than it's worth.

word. I could have hit it BIG if i filed a lawsuit. It caused me SOOOOOOOOOOO much trouble. Parents non stop harassment for MONTHS. Fighting, everyyything. The doctor isnt supposed to tell my mom anything as I have privacy. Ive been seeing the same doctor since I was a kid and she has gotten used to telling my parents things because its legal until your 18 I believe. I could have gotten some good dough if I tried to sue the clinic for causing me trouble.

Down here we aren't allowed to call in ANY scripts what-so-ever. It's even printed on the scripts how many were given. I.E. - If some patient receives a prescription for an antibiotic and a narcotic........the scripts say 1 of 2, and 2 of 2. If they don't present BOTH scripts to the pharmacist, they get nothing.

what kind of drug seekers? WHat stories. Do tell, I see the perscriptions and I know their fake, (their legit scripts but no one runs vicodin or vicoprofen for god damn 4 years.)

Im intrested in hearing some of the crazy drug seeking stories.

Cellar it would take a day man lol!

These people have the WORST stories ever and expect narcotics. Little do they know that we track their E.R. visits. Everyone of their previous visits will pop up in my computer. So, i know EXACTLY how many times you've been to my er, as well as others.

The best part is......these people NEVER follow up with the doctor that they're supposed to. It's a freakin' joke at times that i have to be nice to scum bags like this.

sweet. that filters out some narcotic buying and selling as it would be quite a hassle to pay for narcotics and __________. But usually those who sell narcotics tend to have medicaid and they usually get them for free anyhow.

I dont know about you guys but it pisses me to no end when someone tries to sell narcotics on state granted medical funds. This is what my tax dollars pay for? Scums? The dude i mentioned must have gotten more than 200-300,000 dollars worth of meds. Each bottle of viral medication for HIV or AIDS are usually in the upper thousands ranging from 1.5-2 thousand dollars per bottle. Now imagine hundreds or even thousands of scums doing this? Thats MILLIONS of dollars coming out of our pockets to pay for SCUM! arg, sorry bout the rant. I hate paying taxes as they are heavy as hell, and scums end up with the money anyhow.

bro I feel you. This crazy psycho b1atch got up in my face when i told her to wait 20 min for her perscription. (we had TONS of other peoples stuff to do as we usually have to print, count, check, review and sometimes call doctors/insurance if issues occur) She FREAKED out and started making racist comments in my face. The big boss was there (district boss heard it and told me to calm down and apologized to the lady.) I absolutely hate how no matter what you have to turn the other cheek and smile. I think i would have killed her that day if someone didn't stop me. Your blood boils in under 20 seconds when you work in the heath care field I tell ya. Its a miracle! :toofunny:

It's not easy buddy, i totally understand. :) However, in the end it makes us realize how good we actually have it. :D

indeed.

T I got a question for you, do you usually do day or night shifts at the ER? Reason I ask is that I would assume night and day yields different feeling/environment. I would imagine night time people only come in due to serious medical emergency's while day time people come in for checkups and everything. I could imagine that the day shift is pretty hectic at the ER though too.

I worked nights for a long time.....it's a different type of crowd. Mainly drug overdoses, drunks, or people that are really sick.

I've been working day shifts lately, and the crowd is different. WAY more drug seekers on the day shift. I'm so good at saying "This is what you've been prescribed." If they precede to argure with me. I threaten with security and throwing them out of the e.r. As long as the pain issue has been addressed in some way, the doctor is covered.

They seem to forget, this is what you get, end of story. If you don't like it.......leave, or you will be thrown out. Trauma centers are the best, because they don't put up with that sh*t. I'm on my way back to my old trauma center in tampa next month. I can't wait! :)

yeah I figured the shifts would be different. Lucky you. I wish I could throw a**holes out of the pharmacy. What do you mean by the pain issue has been addressed? Meaning if they say they feel pain you give tylenol and its covered? I would figure that the doctors would need to meet the demands of the patients and as long as they get "something" their ass is covered? Im guessing so correct me if im wrong.

As long as the 'Standard of Care' is met they are covered. For example.....We address their issue, if it's not considered an emergency....which is almost ALWAYS isn't, then they are treated accordingly. They're pain is addressed and treated by the doctor at that time. If that means 'Tylenol', then so be it. :)

haha :P

Ive seen some standard of care occur where one of the headaches was treated with 30 tablets of percocet. I guess each doctor has a different standard for care. Oh how the druggies would LOVE to have that doc as their "source"

Some doctors are morons......that's a fact. ;)

Everybody wants either their Hydrocodone/Apap(Lortab, Vicodin), Oxycodone/Apap(percocet), or Hydromorphone(Dilaudid).

When i become a Physician Assistant, it's nothing unless you need it! :)

Gettin' in late on this one....full time firefighter/medic here

Welcome brother!

I would have been a fire/medic if i didn't HATE heights!

I actually very much have a medic mentality......that's why i work in the E.R. ;)

welcom sir ATJ. I still havent tried your protein balls. :toofunny:

Welcome to the club of insanity. Im sure your profession drives you nuts too.

We're soon to have some new flavors for you not to try.

As far as my profession driving me nuts...that's why I started this little company...maybe one day I can get out of that profession.....It would help if you finally bought some balls...one more customer closer to sanity.

I hear you bro. Burn-out is BAD!

I've even felt it myself over the last few years. Luckily, i've been able to keep myself interested by incorporating different aspects at times. It's hard though.

some druggie dude: but I want percocet.

T: you need to get a job and quit selling shyytt. GTFO

:toofunny:

I can picture it now :afro:

As a PA im assuming you can write off scripts but they have to be someone verified with the doctor? I think nurses can authorize refills as well if im not mistaken.

LOL!

If i become a nurse practitoner, i can write my own scripts.....except for narcotics. Physician Assistants can obtain their dispensing license as well to do the same, but it costs like 5-700 dollars/year i'm told for PA's.

Believe me, i'll be a stingy b@stard! ;)

i would be too. I dont bust my ass getting an education so you can use me like a blow up doll. :toofunny:

At least now its safe to sleep knowing that there will be 1 less corrupt person prescribing narcotics for minor headaches.:clap2:
