Very cool. Was my first time seeing them. 5th for Lamb of God so I expended my energy during their set so I could chill and just watch Slipknot. I've been to a lot of metal shows large and small, festivals, etc. but this crowd last night was impressive. A very collective vibe while SK was on. And larger than I've ever seen. It was nice and cool or maybe just because the huge water cannon at the top of the amphitheater started drenching the crowd early. Phoenix is a great metal and rock in general city.

That sounds great, dude. I love Lamb of God's live shows, the pits are sick. I wish Ohio had a better metal scene, we've got nothing compared to Phoenix. When Ozzfest used to come through, that was great. And we have Rock on the Range, but the bands are hit or miss. A lot of 'lighter' bands I don't really appreciate.
 
At first there were just a couple small fires in the pit...and then SOMEBODY was on fire in the pit.

That new Nile is crazy good - but wouldn't expect any less. Those guys just represent everything about brutal death in the modern times.

Yeah, I really like those guys, last album is pretty awesome man. I enjoy them (and Nile) in smallish doses I guess, the whole Middle Eastern vibe is not for every day, kind of like boutique beer, nice for a treat when you want something a bit different ahahaha.

I've heard it! Love it! I really like that they are speaking out about the destruction of the ancient archaeological structures and artifacts. And they are some of the nicest musicians I've ever met, Karl Sanders shook my hand twice and told me he really appreciated me coming and seeing them. Awesome music, awesome musicians. I don't know if the whole album is out yet or not, but I will have to get it ASAP. Burning a hole in the Black Dahlia Murder CD in my truck.

A lot of old Deathcore and Metalcore have gone EXTREMELY mainstream. It's disappointing. I assume the new Parkway is just another of a long line that have turned towards a larger market.

Melechesh is awesome! I think it was Ladders to Sumeria I was listening to the other day by them on my iPod, came up on shuffle.
 
I just listened to Nile and Melechesh.. Cool album art but that's all I could get into. Lol I've been checking out some of the bands you guys talk about to possibly add to my list for lifting, that's the only time I listen to metal now.

Yeah, it's the scales for me. Sometimes the microtonal guitar riffs just don't vibe with every mood, it hits the middle eastern sound perfectly though. And it takes talent to play a fretless guitar as well as Nile can.

Haha, metal is something you have to ease into. I didn't jump straight into Nile, it took 5 years to go from Metallica to Nile. A slow progressive shift towards the brutal. Then you just never go back.

Just finished burning the BDM and new Nile to disc and put on the iPod. Will be listening to them the next couple days. I listened to a couple of the Nile tracks as it was burning, so damn good.

You ever heard of DevilDriver? Good lifting music, probably more palatable for someone who can't do the brutal death metal.

I used to listen to a lot of different bands a few years ago, but I stopped. Here are some bands I still enjoy, but mostly there stuff from a few years ago.

You just confirmed that the new Nile is waiting on me. I'm snagging that, asap. I can say you likely won't be disappointed by The Black Dahlia Murder. They do melodic death right. Always have.

A lot of popular metalcore scene bands. Of which I used to, or still do, listen to a bit of. I'm surprised you never took the leap to Deathcore. It's just down the street from Metalcore. Then once you're at Deathcore, it's just a hard right to Brutal Death Metal.

I'm bad with genre names.. Lol I used to listen to Suicide Silence, JFAC, Emmure, BMTH, Attila, Underoath, and stuff like that a lot too. I'm not sure if any of those are considered Deathcore. I just don't really like a lot of it anymore, I'm trying to think of more bands I used to like but I'm drawing a blank.

Oh yeah, old SS, JFAC, BMTH are all Deathcore. And to be fair, their early releases were pretty decent Deathcore bands as well. Then they all changed. Drastically. But yeah man, I get how your tastes change, mine have too. I go in and out of phases, liking this subgenre a bit more than that one. Though I still listen to a lot of what I always did, and just kind of cycle through music.
 
I've been hitting some more Melo-Death lately. There's a band called Infested from Sweden I've been digging on. And Irreversible Mechanism is another.
 
I'm a big fan of August Burns Red - their latest album is killer :) The rest of that list are a little poppy for me ahahaha.

I second DevilDriver as pretty accessible but super heavy. Check out "The Last Kind Words" and "Pray for Villains" albums, although all their stuff is solid.

I also highly recommend to you Machine Head, they are outright one of my favourite bands full stop and great to lift to.. Actually, there's a few lacklustre albums in the middle but Burn My Eyes and The Blackening are amazing albums, the latest is really good too.

I'll have to check those guys out. I love a lot of Swedish melodeath: Insomnium, Dark Tranquillity and of course the mighty Amon Amarth - viking melodeath is amazing to lift to - hard not to PR when the guy is growling about riding to a glorious death on the battlefield ahahaha.

I saw The Haunted earlier this year, apparently the "big thing" in Swedish melodeath but did not enjoy - not a fan for some reason. They possibly also win my award for ugliest band ever lol.
 
This is a good melodic trashy band for all metal fans too. Battlecross. Another good show where my sons tagged along. Machine Head and Emmure played right after them.

I used to listen to some really weird stuff way worse then Cannibal Corpse. I can't remember the names, but I don't think I actually liked it though. Lol

I googled grind core to see if I could find any of the bands I had heard before and they were the only ones I recognized on the list that came up. Weird stuff. Lol
 
Lol, yeah - it's bordering on parody for guys that presumably take themselves pretty seriously - A*al C*nt?

I'm not much of a genre nazi but seems like a pretty broad category, for every band that I would probably never listen to based on name alone, there's bands that are awesome like Brujeria, Misery Index and Cattle Decapitation.

EDIT: rascal14 that reminds me, you should also check out Cavalera Conspiracy for workouts. That sh*t is super heavy but really groove laden and makes perfect lifting music.
 
There hasn't been any actual grindcore posted. Cannibal Corpse is plain Death Metal and mainsteam enough to be in Ace Ventura Pet Detective, Torsof*** is Brutal Death/Goregrind, and Infant Annihilator is just Deathcore. Not even good Deathcore. A lot of bands in the goregrind/porngrind subgenres are all shock value with album covers and song titles. The really good stuff out there is the obscure Brutal/Tech Death Metal like Wormed, Necrophagist, things that aren't meant just to shock but have true artistic value to them.

AC is definitely grindcore. And really not that good... Nothing they've ever made was meant to be taken seriously. Seth Putnam just liked to shock and offend people. He seemed like the kind of guy I would really find annoying in person. Mostly because he was feuding with Chris Barnes and I love Six Feet Under.

Haha, well that's how a lot of metalheads SEE grindcore and it's various subgenres. There's a split there, grindcore is more heavily related to punk than metal as far as genres go, you won't see a lot of metalheads coming to the defense of grindcore bands. Usually because the music is awful by comparison, and frequently get confused by non-metalheads for 'Death Metal' and so on.

I can 100% relate to this statement. And it is very annoying. I do not listen to 'screamo', which is apparently a genre that non-metalheads thinks exists and comprises every band/artist/song to ever utter a scream.
 
It gets all too complicated for me.. lol if it sounds cool I'll listen to it while I'm lifting.. Other than that it's rap and country for me ? with a little bit of rock/indie/whatever regular music is called.

Like I said, genre titles aren't my strong suit ?
