2009 College Football Season

At any rate we won so outright Big Ten champs this year.

BUCKNUTS, sincere question here...

Does it bother you immensely, or at all, that OSU's (and the rest of the Big Ten's) seasons are over by the 3rd week in November? I mean, the Rose Bowl is six long weeks away. Meanwhile, the SEC still has another week of much-watched rivalry games, followed by a highly-anticipated and much-hyped conference championship game that will ultimately decide the final BCS rankings. Actually, it's a similar situation for the Big-12, and to a lesser degree the ACC.

Just seems like poor decision-making by the Big Ten powers-that-be. The conference is basically a non-factor from here on out.

Great point, I brought that up months ago (I actually think BUCKNUTS agreed with me while PLENNY was argumentative).

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.

However, as a Penn State fan, he should be the most concerned. Christ, why wouldn't the Penn State AD throw out one of their four scrimmage games and get Pitt back on the schedule? As it stands, the rankings say the Nittany Lions are the 2nd-best team in their state... and PSU can only be spectators now.

It does bother me and it needs to change, I don't think it will anytime soon though. We sat for 7+ weeks waiting for those NC games that's a season of sitting almost it's dumb.

Yep we talked about adding a 12th team, Cincinnati, WVU, Pitt all came up as possibilities. We could them split into divisions and have a conference championship game. I also think we should have a bye week in there as well to extend the season even more. I'm not sure why these things are so obvious to everyone but the Big Ten powers that be.

Call me stupid, but I dont want a BIG 10 championship game. I want Northwestern dropped from the conference, but their academics mean too much, which is also why they don't fit in the Big 10. This would take us back to 10 teams and they could all play each other every year. The other options of Pitt, WVU, or Missouri make sense too, but please God no ND or Cinci.

Anyway, 6 straight against Michigan, and I had the flu. Even trade.

Northwestern was the 4th best team in your conference this year.

Just curious... why not Cincinnati?

ND wouldn't do it anyways their tv contracts and what not are to lucrative. I think we need to extend our season the protracted time off before our bowl games is brutal. I like the idea of a conference championship game personally it just makes sense with other conferences playing for weeks after we end our season it's a competitive advantage.

I have an anti-Cinci bias. My reserve unit is based there and most of the guys in it are from there, and suddenly there are all of these Bearcat fans. I don't think they even realized they had anything other than a basketball team until two years ago. That and I hate the Big East. A conference loses all of its big programs, gains a few garbage ones, gets an auto BCS bid, and suddenly they should be respected? If PSU, BC, Miami, and Va Tech were still kicking the crap out of the likes of Rutgers, Louisville, WVU, UConn, and Cinci, where would they be? Where would they be without the BCS bid the money from it? What if the WAC or MWC had that bid? Would we be talking the same way instead of the woe is me talk we get every year from the Boise States, Utahs, and TCU's? I love love love college football, but it's screwed up.

And congrats to NW, but they still don't fit the BIG 10 overall.

Me argumentive?? never!! Actually I'm all for an addition of more team(s) and a big 10 championship. An extended season is needed. Six/Seven weeks off can hurt a team...case in point last years rosebowl PSU/USC..joepa also agreea with this.

Proof that the Big Ten is run by Morons

Lots of "cases in point" especially 2006 and 2007 BCS National Championships.

JoePa yesterday said this "layoff" until Bowl Season was going make him "jump off a roof". Said his pleadings to Big Ten to add a team and have a divisional playoff have all fell on "deaf ears".

In the meantime, the geniuses at the Big Ten have come up with a perfect solution. They have just announced that they are going to add a "Bye Week" in order to "extend the season". :lmao:

Duh, I think they missed the point.

Wow, this is the wrong place to be right now, wow!
Yesterday a rumble broke out at a local gas station between some alabama and auburn fans...cops were called in and thw whole nine...

Damn! It's only tuesday....i can't wait until friday...my heart I'd already pacing

That's the thing though is that cfl is screwed up in terms of scheduling and bcs. However, it makes for great convo and peak interests.
If the system was like the nfl then the conversation would be like that towards the nfl also, boring...

There was an Auburn fan at that Klan rally at Ole Miss.

8 recruits skipped their visits.

Well to be honest it's more than I expected they would do, and is one of the 2 things I thought needed to happen. I figure it shouldn't take much more than another decade to get that other team we need to add.

Sweet home, Alabama. Wish I could say I miss it.

:haha:

If you watch closely on Friday, you'll see that the Auburn players will have TGIF written on their shoes. However, don't be fooled. It's not a show of confidence... it stands for "Toes Go In First."

TT, is the Texas-TAMU game still a big deal in the lone star state? Or has it become somewhat of a joke in recent times? Man, they need Tubbs to come and try to fix that. I remember looking forward to that game as a kid... along with Nebraska vs. OU. The latter rivalry has picked up since Bo got to Lincoln.

I have some TAMU alumni in my family. They still get up for the game though they expect to lose these days.

So it is still sort of a big deal but it has definitely lost it's appeal since the bonehead firing of R.C. Slocum and their steady decline.

Yeah... that would've been funny if we were talking about the Georgia-GTech game. :ponder:

I would def drive that ****. If you dont recognize the old school cool that is the General Lee, piss off somewhere.

This.

However, since Colts arrival at UT, he is 1-2 against A&M.

Anyways, my conspiracy theory is that the KKK rally was really small and it wasnt done by Ole Miss fans supporting free speech at all. It was done by other fans to hurt recruiting. Only in the south. The best part is they said there were 250 hecklers vs like 12 Klan guys. Watch the video. Only like 10 people heckled them, the rest forgot their robes at home.

That's what Coach "Fran" will do to a program. Dennis Franchione should be blacklisted from coaching altogether. He was the worst possible guy for them to hire. The anti-Slocum. The guy's a cancer. Bama fans didn't want to hear it at the time, but the one 10-win season he had in Tuscaloosa was a fluke.

If anyone thinks his shady newsletter got him fired...

"During his five-season tenure at A&M, Franchione did not produce a team that finished higher than third in the Big 12 South. Though he was able to bring recruiting classes that ranked among the top 13 nationally from 2003–05, none of his teams ranked in the postseason AP or Coaches national polls. He also compiled a 4–16 record against ranked teams, and a 4–14 record against Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Texas Tech, including a 77-0 nationally televised loss to OU in 2003. Additionally, he compiled a 19–21 Big 12 record."

I must say, UT v TAMU is much better than I expected.

I also must say, I would rather see TCU in the title game than UT.

me too I'm very curious to see how they would fair against Bama or Florida'

Also wanted to wish a belated Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends here in the college football thread, hope and pray everyone has a blessed day. I ate entirely too much and slipped into a tryptophan coma on my brother's couch watching the Cowboys/Raiders game.

You too, BN! Can't beat food, family, friends, and football. (Okay, I sometimes beat my friends.)

It was the Raider offense that induced your coma.

In honor of tomorrow's game. Definitely the most heated rivalry in college football...

^^^Those are not the words of a confident man.

C'mon man, you have to have more insight than that. What... did you give up on them after the Georgia game?

Crazier things have happened, and they've had two weeks to prepare.

We've been all or nothing the whole year. I'll know the outcome after the first 5 minutes. If we play like we did verse ole miss it will be a good one.

Klan meeting? I never knew anything about a klan meeting.

Well, I'm 99.7% sure Bama couldn't play any worse. I guess Auburn will eventually run out of trick plays. Might be 35-0 by then though.

No excuses, the Tide is just getting their butts kicked around the field right now.

Gotta weather the storm.
