13 Weeks to RPS Rawdawg Nats: Herder's PUUUGHE Comeback

Looks like ya got your depth there bud. Bit of a butt tilt but no biggie. That **** went up fast.

Yeah, I was high the set before, so I bottomed the **** out. I am such a wrapped squatter. If I don't have them, I'll use momentum to sling myself out of the hole. And bottoming out and slinging out of the hole corrected my form bigtime. I just filmed my pause squats, they were textbook low bar sit back squats. But I can't move nearly as much weight that way.

Dave Tate was an equipped powerlifter and his form cues are for equipped powerlifters. Multi-ply to be specific. You can put your hands wherever you want with a bench press shirt and your shoulders won't hurt. Equipped powerlifting birthed an innumerable amount of incorrect cues for raw lifters/general population.

What would you say I shouldn't do in so you think you can you bench? I know he was equipped and he talks about equipped being different. I'm just curious but I'm always searching to try and find a vid that teaches me exactly what and how to do. That's why I like his vid so much,

Time spent under the bar > any vid...

BLAMO! You'll learn, smoker. It just takes time. If you want instant gratification, hit up your local sorority house. Don't expect it to come from powerlifting.

EDIT: By all means, watch and read each and every how-to you can get your hands on, but don't be afraid to freestyle and experiment.

Yea, I guess I'm going about it the wrong way. Guess there's no clear cut answer for everyone. It's just a struggle Bc ill read or watch something that is different from another vid or article and I'm always changing stuff.

But as napalm says I gotta get under the bar and see what works for me

Edit: thanks Sean and herder and napalm.

Alright. Short sweet squat day, had to get out of the shed before I broke something.

Beltless Over Sets

425x1 PR (UUUUgly)
435x1 PR much better

Speedies (beltless)
385x5x2

Oly Squats
355x3x3 most I've used for Olys. Not like I push them. These were tough, I had to get my hips back under me.

Pause Squats (finally belted)
315x3
365x3

Tried to make these long(er). They were 2-3 seconds. You'll see set 2.

GMs
225x10
245x5
305x3 (felt like saying I've done GMs with 300lbs, sue me)
225x2x10

305 GMs weren't bad at all. Didn't lose my arch (thanks, block pulls!) and I really made sure to use as much ROM as possible.

Got the eff out. My form wasn't on point because I've done a ton of wrapped squatting this cycle. It's just the way I set the percentages. Unwrapped pauses every week have kept my hips strong, I just don't have the groove for no-wrap squats.

Doing a lot of belted work sets also contributed. Kinda forgot how to brace without my belt. I'm still gonna PR in three weeks, today's lapses just set me off.

I'm extremely critical of my squatting, because I've been hurt squatting and because I feel with squats, a 1% lapse in technique is the difference between looking like a boss and looking like a dweeb. The other lifts I can grunt through, but not squats.

Pausers and 435, respectively:

With all the pulling I've been doing on that cheap bar, it's now bent pretty badly as well. That makes for some rough squatting if you don't line it up, but it really cradles the ol' traps when you get it right.

Nice training and talk and discussion here. Apparently my phone decided to stop updating me on this log so I missed out on 3+ pages of material.

I personally much prefer benching wide than close grip. While I never had problems with close grip until around October, I have to say I dont feel the stress on the shoulder with wide like I do with close grip.

I don't want to put words in his mouth, but jinxie relates it to the fact that close grip is way more stressful on the AC joint than normal or wide grip benching while I guess wide is more stressful on the ???. Either way, I stick with the wide benching.

I believe I mentioned in your log how Corey Hayes was getting constant pec strains from close grip benching.

Personally, I think this is one of the coolest parts of raw powerlifting. You'll watch 40 people stride up to the monolift, and no two squats are alike. Even people that look to be built exactly the same will have their differences. Same goes with bench and deadlift. I especially like the differences in deadlifts. There are about a thousand little adjustments to be made. Sumo, convo, Flared toes, straight toes, flat back, round back, stiff leg, how wide are your feet, how do you set up.

All interesting.

Lol, this has sets/reps or reps/sets written all over it...
Haha, I'm not trying to disagree with what you're saying. I agree with what you said but was just adding my experience and adding something to the other side of things.

Jesus, I was looking for the the max, as that looked like a warmer.....!!!!!!!!!
Big power from hole kid

Thanks, PB! I think this next training cycle I'll push up my beltless, wrapless squat, since the meet I'll be doing next is a push/pull. Set my sights on a 500# beltless squat in March!

Sometimes, you get to thinking you're tough shyt. Then your boss hands you a shovel and tells you to go to town for a few days in a row. That's when you realize that you're not as tough as you though you were. I just woke up from an impromptu two hour nap and I'm sore in some odd places.

Mucho jelle of your benching.

Heavy Pulls!

We went off to the gym, but the setup was so terrible that 455 was a grind. The plates would not sit against the collars, as a result the weights would jump to one side or the other. Lamonster's back was shot from grinding with weights that were wiggling across his body. So we left and went to the shed. The shed was about 15 degrees today. Little bro joined the 500lb deadlift club today! Here's what I did.

Work up, work up
475x2 dead stop (ties PR)
505x1 training record
515x2 touch and go (heaviest repping ever)
425x6 TnG

I think touch and go will have more benefit than originally anticipated. Really hits my lumbar erectors hard, which is something that goes on heavy pulls. I didn't get video of 515 or 425, but I'll upload 505 and 475x2. Well on track for a PR deadlift.

Had to sweep out the shed before we lifted today:

Awesome session for all! Freaking sweet. I know it must of been cold bc the high is 27 on the other side of PA. U guys hug it out to warm up? Haha I joke

Nice pulling and PRs. Looks like the shrinkage was working for you, getting your junk out of the way.

Here we are:

Yeah, there was a lot of bitchin, and everybody's feet were cold, but we made it happen!

Dude, those looked fantastic -- as well as light for you. Impressed.

Also digging that little set up you got there. Reminds me of a little fishing hole, but for far manlier stuff, lol. Dig it.

Note, sometimes when I try to give thanks for a post, I get an error message that I don't have privileges. Weird. So yeah, thanks for the video share.

Big benchin today! Scheduled for 335x2, 345, and then a training PR of 355, slingshot up for something massive, then back down to 295 for a Lilly Pause/regular pause/TnG AMRAP. Then I'll hit all of the back work I owed from yesterday, some facepulls and pullaparts, JMs and delt raises and GTFO.

Awesome day of benching! Worked in the commands and hit every single rep paused. Bicep tendon was a little angry today, but didn't blow out

335x2
345x1 this came up so fast I beat the rack command. I went from fired up to pissed off quickly. Lol.
355x1 also got pretty good. Training PR.
Add Reactive Slingshot
385x2
Remove Slingshot
295x9 PR!

Unreal that I hit a rep PR after all that heavy stuff. I was freaking winded after that set.

Pull ups/lat pulldowns
11/whatever
3/whatever
Didn't try/whatever

Well, that escalated quickly.

Delt Raises

DB Preacher/Band Pullaparts

Done. Good day of benching. Everything is set here. Gonna work the commands more.

Holy bench man. 295x9!?

Nice job on the training PR too. Helluva session.

Awesome!! Will we be blessed with vids?

We have vids of 335x2, 355, and 385x2. 295x9 I just kinda went right for it. I tried to pause off of my chest and crashed, then from there on out I just let it sink and banged 'em out. Tried to go TnG after number 9. Did not happen. I had to ask how many I got afterward.

Damnnnnnn. Now that is what I call a solid session.

Vids!
