Orthopedic acupuncture

Ok.... I may be late to the party on this. My wife goes to a physical therapist for her migraines. I've been to plenty of pt. But this guy is completely different. Basically, he "fixes" when your jacked up, he pretty much does what you would expect a chiro to do. But your entire body and not alot of visits. His goal is to fix you... not make you a reoccurring revenue stream.

At wife wife's last appt I asked if he could look at me scapular winging. (Been to multiple pts's I do all the exercises... still there)

I go to see him yesterday. He starts working his magic. When he sees how tight I am he tells me I HAVE to see his acupuncturist. Im skeptical... he pushes, makes a call, gets me in for this am.

He also warns me... it's going to suck. Feel free to swear. I'm amused as I picture some old Chinese lady gently tapping tiny needles into me as I peacefully lull off to a nice gentle nap.

Holy fucking torture!!!!!! Ninety minutes of a non Asian woman driving 10 penny nails into my muscles and ligaments. It was anything but enjoyable. I have had dry needling done. Multiply it by ten. When each needle hit a trigger point she would flick it to spasm the muscle... then leave it. After all the pins were in you wait for 20 min or so. She comes back and before pulling them jiggles them again as i lie in a pool of my own sweat.

Finally done...nope. flip over and repeat. WTF

Anyway... when I left it fealt like my shoulder area was beat with a bat.

5 hours later I feel noticeable improvement to my pre appt tightness.

Anyway... google it if you suffer from nagging pain/injuries as we all do. Might be of some relief

Would you mind updating over the next few weeks? I'm interested in a few things that I'm also skeptical about, acupuncture is one of those things. I'd like to see if moving forward it stays feeling good , gets better or reverts back to square 1.

Chiropractic adjustments and acupuncture are 2 of the things I'm always looking at but too skeptical to do it

Sure will. Im 100% with you on traditional acupuncture. This is an entirely different animal. The needle goes into the muscle and you absolutely feel it when it hits a trigger point. It's a very uncomfortable sensation. I guess I have to call it pain, but unlike what i would normally call "pain".

Without chiro (a chiro that lifts and adjusts lifters) and dry needling (a good dry needler), I would not still be powerlifting at 58 yrs old. I do chiro once a week and love dry needling when I get injured. It gets me great results especially for lower back / lower body. I can depend on it, but I got a good needle lady. I go at least once every 6 months for a good tune up and more if the injury calls for it. I do chiro once a week.

There are multiple kinds of Acupuncture. Mostly its the 1" needles and most often do not cause muscle jumps (or very much of it) and that target balancing the bodies organs. Then there is something between this and Dry needling where dry needling uses up to 6" needles for areas like the hips and glutes.

Acupuncture is ok, but it does not get to the root of lifting related issues imo. Its great for balancing out the body when it is toxic from lifting and pushing things "too much".

At 46, I was hit by a high speed car while driving a bicycle and I had 2.5 years of chiro (3 times a week), dry needling (once a week), acupuncture (twice a week), osteo (once a week) massage (once a week). So I got a ton of exposure to this stuff (and from different pros) paid for by Insurance - that most people never get.

I have done so much acupuncture and dry needling that I have boxes of needles at home and can most often take care of the issue - by mimicking what I see the pros do. I spent time understanding the points that I have seen the pros using on me and why they use them together etc... its pretty cool. For example, when my right shoulder gets jacked up, its usually cause the phrenic nerve (that goes from gall bladder to the right upper quadrient and affects the entire shoulder area) is jacked up cause my diet has not been all that good thus pissing off my gall bladder and affecting the phrenic nerve. Ok, i know the points to detox the gall bladder that I seen the pros use on me before for the same reason. Fixed.

Orthopedic acupuncture is like dry needling x10. I've had sucess with dry needling but this is more intense. I was questioning whether I would tap out.

Don't misunderstand, dry needling is great but this is not traditional acupuncture I'm talking about. Imagine dry neddlung with 30+ needles

Well there are many approaches to dry needling depending on who is doing it. All of them use longer needles (longer than 1" and up to 6"), but some people aggressively move the needle in and out and and different directions (covering a larger area with one needle) and some people just stick them in and leave them for a period or pull them out almost immediately. And some do a combo of these dependent on the area affected and the treatment. Dry needling is known to be much more intense than Orthopedic acupuncture (I mean just google it) due to aggressively moving long needles in and out (and going almost to the bone). But again it all depends on who is doing the needling and how they want to approach things. I hope you got the results you were looking for!
