How are they as pets? Thinking about maybe throwing a couple out in the backyard- we have a massive turtle population in the lake behind my house- I was fishing the other day and caught a huge snapping turtle on accident- the ****er bit the crap out of me while I was taking the hook out- but they do seem like they would be pretty cool pets...
Well, the ones I have are actual Tortoises (land dwellers).... not bad pets, somewhat easy to care for, but much more complicated than dogs or cats. It's really dependent on the species.... some are very hardy, others are like fine crystal to care for.
If you wanted to keep them outdoors: If your climate is decent, you could probably get away with Russian tortoises (small, cold hardy) or African spur thighs( HUGE, and you'd need a well built enclosure)....
