Red Light Therapy

I went down a rabbit hole on this the other night because my wife wants one. I am planning on getting one and if it works, plan on getting a sauna type one. A few of our friends have the top notch red light sauna and they absolutely love it.

I have one that is just light not heat, combining it with ghk-cu topical is a game changer. Skin looks great.

Basically, cleanse, use red light 3-5 minutes, use ghk cu, eye cream, moisteriser. Do not use ghk cu then use red light as the blue in ghk cu acts as a barrier to red light (that is my nonscientific explanation)

It is 660nm and 850nm so Red and Infrared

which red light are you using? do you use eye protection or just let it go? I have wondered if I could set something up in the bathroom even and get my red light in while I'm brushing my teeth since I'd basically have 100% full skin exposure in the morning.

I don't but I read a lot over the past few years, (I was very, very skeptical) but, it seems to be legit for skin, hair and muscle pain with lots of science to back it up. I really tried to find a way that I could justify that it's all bullshit lol. But skin hair and pain management really seem solid. A lot of the other stuff that they talked about seems like it was kind of a coin toss like there wasn't white enough evidence to back it up and it was more of people's personal experiences more then the science but, it's enough good stuff for me to get it. I'm actually looking at infrared because it's supposed to be better for pain and better at promoting collagen and elasticity of the skin. At least from my understanding. I don't really know jack **** about this topic 😂

What's the difference between these fancy 250 to $300 lights from these companies I've never heard of versus the 50 to $80 ones they sell at Target?

hey I'm all for placebos if it tricks my body into thinking and becoming healthier, lol.
I'm a big believer that the body does what the brain tells it its doing (getting sicker, getting healthier)

400W LED Red Light Therapy Panel Beauty Infrared Therapy Machine for Anti-Aging something like that, generally these ones you want to be like 6-12 inches away from it and its more for face. Brands like Joov are good for fullbody and distance. I dont use eye protection, I read there is some benefit to using it on your eyes first thing in the morning, apparently can reaally improve eye sight (depends on the brand/strength though)

those masks freak me out

I asked AI about putting one on the bathroom counter that I could turn on while brushing my teeth in the morning before I get dressed and it suggested quite a few for that purpose. the JOOVV obviously seems to be the best but cost substantially more.

I emailed Hooga to see if they can give me more info and recommendations. after doing a deep dive with Grok there are like a million potential health benefits. If I could flip it on for 5 minutes in the morning while getting ready for work it seems like a no brainer to improve health, vision, energy, and cognitive function... also claims to help thyroid, fat mobilization, hair growth, libido in both men and women, scar healing, wrinkles and so much more.. its wild.

You can be our guinea pig then 😀

So FWIW, i had a membership to PF by my house and they had a red light bed. I would use it after my cardio session. It did seem to help my arthritis some and also my psoriasis.

how long were your RLT sessions there?
as much as I hate PF, I have contemplated a membership at the one on my way home from work because of all the OTHER stuff they have like the tanning beds etc lol.

Well this is promising…I have Psoriatic Arthritis and even though I don’t have that many issues with my skin, the PA really gets to my knees and hands. I have to really do a lot of stretching and warmups before workouts. The supplements help tremendously, but red light therapy is something I haven’t tried. Looks like I’ll be a guinea pig too.😎

hardest part for me right now is picking out a particular red light to test. you can get them as cheap as like $50 on amazon, but JOOVV sells them for like $1100 and up, and that HOOGA I posted has options right in the middle.

I'm not in a place right now to go dump $2k on an experimental light therapy for crows feet (LOL) but I don't want to waste $50 on an amazon POS if the $200 unit is substantially better and is actually effective.

My hands and knees kill me also. About to hop on some prednisone since my fingers are starting to look like sausages again :/

I feel you man, it can get rough, especially as it gets colder.
are you guys sore through the whole cold season or does it adjust? I notice that knee of mine acts up about october but after a month of sub 40f temps my body seems to adjust and as long as I always wear my knee sleeves squatting I don't usually notice it. but yeah, when fall shifts to cold my left knee feels hollow (the one without acl)

Not necessarily all the time, but definitely more in colder months than the warmer months. I’m able to always loosen up and do about anything I want once I get good and warmed up and the blood gets to flowing. Of course I take a shower in the evenings after dinner, and if I wake up too stiff I’ll jump in a hot shower in the mornings for about 10 minutes just to help loosen up. Once I eat my breakfast, get to work, and get a cup of coffee, I start walking through the plants and checking on different departments. I have a pretty good balance of desk work and walk about 7000 to 10000 steps at work, and then go to the gym in the evenings for workouts. Start every workout with plenty of stretching and warmups and all that routine with all the good supplements I take keeps me going pretty good for 61 years old. And it does seem to get better as my body gets adjusted to the colder temperatures. But definitely interested in the red light therapy in the mornings when I’m getting ready for work in the bathroom.😎👍

Subbed. Been intrigued with this as of late
we are at that awkward time of year where I may have to wait until Christmas or the day after to purchase one in the off chance that my wife does it for me ;) lol

I read that the redlight studies show better hair regrowth than minoxidil by like 4x. Right now I think I'm leaning towards something in the sub $250 budget window.

The HG300 by Hooga is $189 and when compared to the JOOVV Mini for $1000 seems to have almost all the same technical specs with a couple variations:

Hooga treatment distance is listed at 6" whereas the JOOVV is listed at 16-24":
Hooga irradiance is 73mW/cm whereas the JOOVV is >100mW/CM. but I have no idea what this means.

I have a feeling you get what you pay for but the Hooga seems to be pretty good for the money

I have the Hooga HG300. I got it because they claim it's good for stretch marks and my wife was complaining about it. She noticed some benefit, but wasn't using it consistently. Probably 10 minutes a couple times a week for a couple months.

I've used it for exactly like you said. Put it on the bathroom counter, turn it on after the shower. I stand in front of it, brush teeth, get ready. 3 times a week for 10-15 minutes. They say it's good for testosterone on your nuts so I have it pointed there for 5 minutes then face it up toward my face the rest of the time. A big panel would be much easier, but it's too expensive for me to try out.

so you've been using it a few months as well then? do you notice any improvements in skin, energy, well being, or libido with the nut shot? I had a big long ai chat open last week and it went down rabbit trails of many different uses, it did specifically say women who shined it directly on their bits saw a substantial increase in libido (post menopausal women) but that even women who did not shine it directly at their hoo haw also saw improvement, just less. I think the summary / idea there was that red light therapy use at all, increased mitochondrial health throughout the entire body no matter what, but that redlight therapy in targeted zones would specifically provide MORE benefit to those zones. so hit your chest, see minor improvement in whole body. shine it directly on a bum shoulder, see better improvement on shoulder. make sense sorta?

Yes kind of. From my understanding it does improve mitochondrial health and kind of just boost everything. I don’t know if it is a test boost or nitric oxide boost or what but it seems to help blood flow down there. As far as skin health goes I think it’s slightly improved my face too. And yeah about 6 months of mostly consistent use.

I think skin health is the biggy for me. My face has cleared up a lot this year since I've been eating less eggs but I still get some acne which I think is largely from 2 a days at the gym, always wearing a sweaty baseball hat on backwards in the gym and leaving that sweaty greasiness on my forehead without a meaninful cleanse at the gym like I should. the libido/bloodflow thing isn't like a "concern" by any means but I always tell my wife I'd rather be miserably in the mood than miserable and not in the mood, lol. so I'll do anything that just contributes to overall male health as well for the sake of "use it or lose it" sorta haha.

Agreed. I look at my test levels a little bit as a game. Total test is around 650 and I'm 32 so healthy but not high. I'm seeing if I can get a little boost from it. It could very well be placebo, but I do like the red light and the science backs it.

I'm interested in the skin health, not because of acne but just in generaI. But listening to what you said, I can relate. I think a lot of us overlook our own cleanliness even when we shower regularly. I pretty much shower twice daily. Always every morning before work and on gym nights a second time at night. Plus sometimes just before bed to relax, especially if me n the old witch are gonna dance before bed lol. So I would say I'm pretty clean, but....... I'm kinda not 😂😂😂. I work manual labor most days, so I could be sweating on and off from 8am to 4pm. Then I hit the gym, if it's a night I have to run a class I'm there 5-830pm. At this point I'm really sweating and I'm gonna take a shower now but if you look at the bigger picture I spent most of the day pretty uncleanly. I've always thought this was the main cause when I get shoulder acne, and in the event I do get something on my face, the number one place that would show up is around my hat line.

And I'm mostly Italian, I'm just greasy in general 😂

dude I'm the same way. If my schedule allows I try to get my heavy lift in at lunch since the gym is across the street. throw my work clothes back on, back to work. then after work are my harder sweatier sessions. go home and eventually take shower #2 but even if I only squat on my "heavy" session earlier in the day, the damage is done.

yup thats me for sure, my forehead gets it bad. this week been using some exfoliating face wash thing my wife has in the shower and all the sudden everything seems to be clearing up.

idk if you remember but the past couple years I had to go into the cosmetic eye surgeon about 2 times per year because I was getting clogged ducts in my eyelids that were causing these little bumps. he'd have to flip my eyelid inside out and slice them open and drain them cause they were like zits basically that would make my eyelid droop and if they were a white head internally, they'd really irritate my eyeball. He said it was cause I'm 40 and he sees it all the time in men over 40. soemthing about hormones. well I haven't had the the eye issue in 2025 (KNOCK ON WOOD!!!) but my face acne has been at like a high school level. I've been natty since like feb so idk wtf is causing it.

I had the things in my left eyelid before but I eventually got it to pop and it didn't come back. Knock on wood 🪵

I had it on my upper eyelid first which started causing it to droop and the doc put it on insurance cause "it was effecting vision". then the lower lid, then the other eye. I think I had to have it surgically cut open 4 times in like 2-3 years (I have some gross pics). been a while though, so far so good!! forehead acne clearing up, no bumps in my eyelids, everything hurts. I'm back to 80% operational human!

Viconor has been recommended on Reddit for an Amazon brand. Also Looking at the Hooga Pro300.

I may order the Viconor cap hair growth for my wife and I put on the foot cover for my foot as the only gift in my family secret Santa gift…haha My wife wanted a Lumebox but that’s too expensive.

I recognize the second on here from amazon, that has the -40% off pricing with the stand. the cap is interesting... direct targeted RLT to the scalp might have promise. check out the herpes solution they listed off on their home page. that one seems contradictory to me. it seems like when I used to get thost nasty cold sores at the corner of the mouth they'd be more likely to happen during days of massive sun exposure. I get the mitochondrial health but my knee jerk thought on that one was that it would make it worse.

that cap is really interesting...

FYI - there are cannabis grow lights specific to these wave lengths to promote growth but could also be used in a RLT situation. DIY kit is around $200.

Just got to be careful with the ebay ones, sometimes they have the right nm, but not strong enough so it is pointless

this one is kinda interesting, the nm wavelength matches what i've read:

I ordered the Viconor lamp stand. I will order this hat at some point I think.

Santa decided I will guinea pig the Hooga!

Gonna start this bad boy out on my knee!
I think you’ll like it. I have the same one and it’s been used for injuries, face, nuts/testosterone, stretch marks… I think it speeds recovery and just makes the cells healthier.

I'm loving it. It's hard to rig to aim at the knee but I have three 15 min sessions directly at the knee so far and today was the first time I could pull my foot high enough to put on my sock without groaning. I also feel a tremendous amount of mental "lightness". Like a positive mental energy, low stress. Clean energy. They say results are like a 4-12 week thing but you guys know I love placebos too.

When my knee is 100% I'll likely shift use towards my stomach and face.

Well I'm sold on the RLT. My knee has seen huge improvements after 5 sessions. Sleep is solid, mood is great despite being on the shitend of the dark season. If it's placebo I'll take it but there seems to be a little magic in that box of lights.

I just got a foot one from secret Santa. Gonna do session 1 tonight! My square one that is similar to yours is suppose to be here Monday now.

I got this foot one. Super excited to try it tonight.

back at work today so instead of rigging the light up on the couch at my knee I split my morning session up a little with the light propped up on drawer in the bathroom aimed at the knee for a few minutes, then moved it to the counter top aimed at my torso region while I did contacts, toothbrushing etc. I still feel like it kicks off the early morning nicely and at night its interesting because while a morning dose can suppress melatonin when you need cortisol, they say the night dose does not inhibit melatonin. I'd say a few minutes at night feels very relaxing.

I do have mixed feelings about using it on the face. I did it briefly (like less than a minute) with the protective goggles on, but I swear I could see red light beams with my eyes closed behind the thick black goggles so IDK if that is a good idea or not... I'll explore it further.

right on dude, I've heard promising things about those. I thought about getting the hat one for the 'ol hair thining region.
