Purpose for doing this log: Show what impact the supplements have for an everyday shmuck.

Added pictures as subjective reviews are just that. (I change the oil in my car and i swear my car rides so much better!)

Goal: Look better 😊, get leaner, keep as much muscle as possible, basically what everyone wants. I would be ecstatic if I could be as lean as some of you guys during a light bulk. I have neither the time, desire nor dedication to put in the effort required to look like someone who does. If my wife says “wow” you look good. That will be HUGE win. Not that she is a tough grader but after being married for 30 years, it’s just not a thing (provided I don’t get too fat). She is unaware that I am even making an effort right now, so she will be my true barometer of “success’ (fully prepared for soul crushing disappointment).

Genetics: avg at best. No one in my family/extended family are close to muscular.

Being a primary caregiver for my wife who’s in rough shape physically for the last 20 years, bodybuilding is pretty far down on my priority list, however I do lift consistently.

Even with my lame excuses for looking fair at best… I really admire those on here who put in the work and dietary dedication to look as good as you do. Even if everything in my life was perfect, I doubt I would have the dedication required to have the lean mass I see on here.

I’m 100% convinced my wife is a chubby chaser. As much as I despise my spare tire, she has consistently told me she finds it sexy. The woman either has a sick fetish or is the world’s most consistent liar. While this is great and all, it doesn’t add any motivation. She has at times told me I am getting “too thin” where no abs were even in the same zip code. I believe she needs professional help.

Finally, NO I am NOT wearing a sweater in the pictures, YES I AM wearing crocs and socks (Sorry ladies. I’m taken)

I figure I'll update pictures monthly. My delicate sense of self worth can't take it any more frequently. I'll update progress weekly at least, more frequently if I notice anything.

Background:

Age: 56

Been lifting weights for over 30+ years.
Diet could always be better but hitting 200+g protein daily.
Workout:
full body every other day, occasionally only 3x a week.
light weights for this crowd 😊
2 sets of 10
full 60+ sec (timed TuT, 4 sec negative, 2 sec positive)
no lockout/rest between reps
2-3 min rest between sets
Squat (ass to calf), Flat Bench, Narrow Grip Pulldown (with that V shaped thingy), dumbbell shoulder press,
bent rows, barbell preacher curls, barbell overhead tri-extensions, shrugs.
I move up weight when I can complete second set with excellent form, without having to lockout between last couple reps.



Avg Weekly Weight the beginning of this – 205lbs (Yes I weigh myself daily, multiple times. Not unlike a 16yr old girl getting ready for the prom)
Avg Weekly weight loss before log - .57lb/wk (last 4 weeks)
No significant changes to diet since cleaning it up a bit in January
Only change to W/O – Added shrugs as I noticed recently my right trap is noticeably smaller
Chronic issues:
Mild knee pain occasionally when using a stair. (Once I get moving, no issues)
low back mild pain/tightness (pain is an overstatement... but you get the idea)
Elbows: tendonitis
Rt shoulder: mild bursitis

2/22 - bumped up squat and bent row 5lbs... one sessions ahead of trend. W/o felt really good. Finished a few min early. Odd thing going on... my brain is having a herd time keeping up with my body being able to take less rest.

You have an amazing physique, the only thing I can add or help share is for some of your nagging injuries. Your training looks solid af and looks like a routine you could do for decades. I have a similar training style, so naturally I like yours lol. But for the nagging problems you have, what is literally life changing for me is yoga. Yoga 3 to 5 times a week not only has helped with everyday stiffness/minor aches, but has literally cured me of multiple more serious problems I had. Right shoulder impingement so bad I couldn’t overhead press at all, now, completely gone. I know it’s probably there to some degree but I’ve been overhead pressing for a few years now and have felt it zero times. Same with pinched nerve in my lower back, have literally felt it maybe twice since yoga. I’m not trying to rant but I feel super strongly about this. I’m also not trying to sound like I’m pushing it on you, it’s just my experience has been nothing short of miraculous. As far as your stack goes, you are stacked to the brim with muscle builders so surely you are going to make some sweet gains. Alpha One seems like just a fun product lol. I haven’t tried it yet because my list of trying things is long af. Also I’m kind of a hippy about what I take(longer story) so I’m just slightly hesitant. Anyways, super solid progress my man, I’m only 31 so you are true motivation.

Good sense of humor and I commend you for what you said about your wife being your priority. Health and fitness is important, but we have to find a balance between it and not let it make us lose sight of other things.

As far as cedar burps, most of the time that goes away after a week or so or most can offset it by taking it with a meal if it bothers you. For me, it doesn't bother me but fish oil burps do - I can't use fish oil bc of them anymore bc I hate the taste of fish in general.

Your layout looks fine.

Pepti-Plex can be spaced out or taken at once like that - no right or wrong way; I think what you're doing is fine.

PEA Relief - if I'm reading that right, you're doing 3 per day? That's a high dose, but not overkill imo. I would that after about 3 weeks, you could drop back to 2 per day.

You mentioned a multi in your first post - we will launch one soon.

What curcumin do you take? With the issues you've mentioned having, when you run out of the one you currently take, I would suggest looking into either Elite Curcumin or Theracurmin XT.

Was planning on dropping pea down so that's good. Taking vitacost curcumin c3. When that's gone ill look into switching.

I know it is only early times, but have you noticed nicer hair? My hair is nicer when I use Anabolic XT. You look great and I know you are going to enjoy the run. As for pumps, I was always like you until I actually experienced good ones with the use of Anabolic XT no less. They allow you to connect your mind to the muscle that is being worked and helps you hone in on the movement and form that is providing the best contractions or whatever. Anyway, keep us updated and have fun. God bless you for providing love and care to your wife.

I'm using Spermadine from SNS and my hair is fantastic on it, food for thought

Ha! Only thing that would make my hair look better is a seance. Been rockin a bare scalp for a few years, and honestly i love it.

Steve... I've got a genius idea! Package up some fish oil with alpha one. You can market it as cedar plank salmon burp flavor! Hipsters would clear it off the shelves.

You can use that idea for free! :)

On a serious note, for the first few hours after dosing I swear I smell the faintest scent of cedar. Bizarre... (likely me that's a little koo koo)

Bumping up Alpha 1 to 2x a day today. Weight was doing pretty good into the weekend. Sunday dinner was my kryptonite. pizza... :( I cut out most carbs during the day, but it still got me. It's worth noting I am my own worst enemy as I am VERY good cook and i take my food seriously on the weekends. I'm VERY strict M-F (night). Dinner F, S, S are less than ideal as far a carbs/fat. The rest of the day on the weekends I keep pretty clean.

I'm not too bothered though as
A. it was no surprise,
and
B. I'm ok as long as the number goes down/clothes get looser.

Update: 8:49

Just finished workout. Today everything just felt powerful, no other way to describe it. Was able to shave a few more min off my time (55:07) which was fastest since I've been doing this current routine. I time my sets, so it was all decreased rest time.
Bumped up pull downs 5lbs. Had to pause at 8 on second set for 2-3 seconds, but otherwise felt good.

lower back feels really good. Shoulder feels 90% better.

Placed yet another order w/DPS (pepti-plex, alpha one, Anabolic XT) so I can ride this out for a full 16 weeks

2/26 workout.
Trimmed a few more min 53:20. Chalking this up to more focus and endurance. Prior to the stack I would be dragging through workout.
Added 5lbs to bi's/tri's. can't say this is ahead of schedule, but it's my max weight for BB curls in my recent(ish) logs

Great Workout, finished in just 50:07. Really felt motivated. Took some pictures, I THINK seeing a little less fat around the middle. Waiting for 4 weeks for next pics to show. Added 5lbs to squat

Suck workout :(. Everything felt heavy. Highly correlated to switching to decalf this AM for some other issues.
Added 5 lbs to Bench (didn't feel horrible), and 2.5lbs to db shoulder press felt just "OK"
positive note, preacher felt strong. Dragged @$$ though. Finished in 54:22


Weight has been real erratic. 202.8 Sunday AM, 203.4 Monday, 204.2 today WTF... eating clean too

Also.... something is loosening me up down south. Stopped PEA today and I starting to percolate already (2:45PM). we'll see how the rest of the day goes. Will rotate out Alpha 1 next. It's on W/O and rest days, so i've ruled out citrulline malate, CM has never bothered me so i don't think it's that.

I wouldn't worry about that small of a weight variation - that small of an amount could be just needing to pee. I don't weigh myself daily anymore bc little things like that drive me nuts.

When did the loose stool start? The reason I ask is that there's a stomach virus going around in a lot of areas and its not like major sick at the stomach, but seems more bloating and loose stool but not diarrhea, so its a possibility that it could be that.

I wouldn't expect it to be Alpha One related because if going up to 2 was going to bother your stomach, it would have likely happened within the first couple days of increasing your dose. You could try taking them with a meal, if you're not already. There are some people that are very sensitive to their body's cAMP levels increasing and Alpha One is a very potent cAMP enhancer - but if you were going to experience that from a cAMP increase, it would have most likely happened by now and it normalizes after a couple weeks anyway. So it doesn't add up to being that bc that would have happened and normalized by now, not started normal and happened now.

Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is not likely to cause loose stool and it actually has some very good gut health benefits to it.

I do think that you may see a difference from removing the PEA product that you were using, but not because of the PEA ingredient itself.

However, it could be the other ingredient in the PEA supplement that you are using if you are still using that one. We had people asking us to use that ingredient when it was popular awhile back and I never would include it in anything because I always felt like it was an ingredient that was better as a single ingredient because it was shown in some studies to decrease estrogen but other studies showed that it may increase estrogen (contradictory), and the common side effects were gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, bloating, stomach cramps, loose stool, and diarrhea.

^^^ Only reason I mention that is because if your issue does get better from taking out your PEA supplement, it doesn't mean that you can't take PEA, as its much more likely to be the other ingredient.

It's not constant diarrhea or loose stool. Happens like clockwork around 6-8 pm. One or 2 SMALL blasts. Like something wants to get out! :) Morning bm's are mostly normal.

Happened around same time I bumped up to 2 pills.

I read your previous response to someone else about the same issues and what you say makes sense.

The PEA I am taking is only PEA. The brand has 2 different versions. One pure and one with that other stuff.

Do you take any supplements right before that period?
If so, are they on an empty stomach?

That type of effect with it being isolated can happen to some people if they take fish oil and/or a multi on an empty stomach.

Is there anything that you eat consistently before then?

Without going too in depth, I have posted about cross reactivity in the past - which is where people can eat certain things fine, but if they eat them in the presence of other things, it may cause an issue. It's hard to explain without being super detailed, but basically an example could be something like - I can eat red sauce no problem, I can eat eggs no problem - but if I eat eggs and red sauce in the same day, it will bother my stomach that night. So if you have made any changes to eating in the span before then, that could be a consideration.

I don't think it would be any of them.

There are some people that are sensitive to cAMP increases and we explain in the Alpha One write up that if someone is, it may bother their stomach at first but it normalizes after about 2 weeks. It's not something that would wait this long to start happening and it wouldn't be for just a 2 hour window.

Oddly, afternoon pills don't have the same effect. Same 5 pills except the b complex.

A B Complex can bother a lot of peoples stomachs, especially if taken on an empty stomach.

Last night had A1 w/dinner (Chicken breast/rice). This morning I waited and just took it w/Breakfast (3 eggs +1 slice bread).

I can't take a B Complex on an empty stomach myself. I have to take a B-Complex or a multi that is high in B Vitamins with food.

Same here! I always take right after my breakfast in the morning so it has some food to sit on top of.
 
Taking a1 with breakfast... no change. Just delayed the inevitable.

Stopping a1 and cissus today.

This is a definite head scratcher. My bung hole is getting angry 😠 😡

3/8 back to a little caffeine.
Workout was great. Bumping up pulldowns, rows and bi's/tris tomorrow.
Scale continues to creep down. Nighttime wood is making a return.

No intestinal issues yesterday. Adding in one a1 today with dinner. Fingers crossed 🤞

Well, today was a big SUCK. Got sick... sore throat and absolutely exhausted. No workout :(

Will know later if 1 a1 with dinner sits well. So far so good.
 
Alpha One MIGHT be loosening me up a bit in the AM, but too a much smaller (manageable) degree. Going to continue with one with dinner for a week. Then try adding in one in the AM. Leaving out CissusXt until I stabilize Alpha One.

Sickness feels better today, but only like 80%. Still have a minor sore throat, and a little tired. Slept alot yesterday. First day in years I didn't work due to illness (and I can work remote). Tomorrow (Wed) or Thursday will be my next workout.

First workout since 3/8 due to illness. Still a slight sore throat. A smarter man (something I am rarely accused of) would have waited another day or 2. But F it.

All in all pretty solid. I had planned on bumping up weights as noted above. Again a smarter man.... But i did it anyway. Went surprisingly well. I did take it a little easy on pace and w/o took 60 min. I can live w/that.

Also, got a cheap trap bar. WHY THE F did i wait so long? no more junk rub!

Ordered some shorts (34 waist), same ones I ALWAYS wear, ALL the time. (reiterating to any ladies reading along I AM A CATCH, but I am taken. Sorry!).

Anywho, they are a bit big. Getting a smaller pair delivered today (33 waist). So that's a solid sign.

Elbows were a bit more sore today. Maybe since cutting Cissus XT? It's only been 5 days or so.

Cissus XT helps a lot with tendons and ligaments. It doesn't take long being off it for many to wish they didn't stop taking it.

Agreed! Cissus XT or Joyful Joints are my go to. Especially during the winter months it's part of my daily routine. Joints just feel more achy when it's cold out.
 
Added Cissus back in Friday. Noticeable already. No intestinal issues. Added A1 back in this morning. That puts me back a 2 per day. We'll see how it goes. 1 per day with dinner seems to be tolerated with no problems. Also added in a pro-biotic (for no other reason than I had some that hadn't expired, so kind of a no brainer)

3/15 workout was just OK. Squat went well, bumping up 5 lbs. today. But bench missed target. Also tri's struggled. I have noticed over the years that whenever I expect a crappy workout after a break from being sick/stress/work/whatever. The workout that I come back on is actually decent. It's usually the NEXT one that falls short. Maybe it's all in my head. Still have a nagging sore throat.

Subjectively, feel leaner. Dropped down to a 33 in shorts I always wear. Jeans that I used to need a come-along to button up I can now wear comfortably (albeit still a tiny bit snug after the dryer). I "feel" more muscular, but pictures don't lie... so that's mostly in my head. Oh, and lighting is a bit better in the new pictures, in case that matters.

Curious on peoples thoughts

Back on track. Everything went as expected, if not a tad better.

11:30 - minor explosion in toilet. Looks like I'm sticking to one a day for A1 for a few weeks. Then give it another shot. Seems like I need to take it with a big meal.

Short week 6 update:
1. Workouts are still progressing nicely. Hate my right trap. Loading trap bar heavier on right side by 10lbs and doing a little extra work on that side. No idea why it is so far behind (my right side is dominant). Only thing I can think of is i noticed I always carry stuff with y left hand so I can use my right hand to do whatever... dunno

2. Weight's still dropping .5 lb a week. I'm good (more or less) with that as I don't FEEL like I'm hungry that often

3. Since anything worth doing is worth overdoing... Adding in Recomp20 this weekend just for goofs. I'm 99.9% sure that I'd be better off trying to work out harder (i.e. more often, different split, etc.) but life limitations are what they are.

4. I THINK I'm good with going back to Alpha One 2x a day now. Started Wed, so far 2 days no issues.

5. I THINK I feel slightly better while working out if I take Pepti-plex and Axt ~2 hrs before I work out. for me it seems to feel better (more focus/endurance) than 30-60 min.

6. Adding in some half @$$ ab work on a couple "off days" when I can. (emphasis on Half @$$)

Overall, I'm fairly pleased for where I am right now. Going to keep pushing for the full 16 weeks. Then my primary obsession (saltwater fishing) will take center stage and I will likely dial down the frequency (3... sometimes 2x a week) as there are only so many hours in the day and the tide waits for no man.

Update of some odd effects.
The "bad"
Since adding in Recomp20, my weight has not waivered ONE bit 201 EXACTLY three days in a row. Was pretty bummed as I've been consistently dropping and was expecting to be dropping below 200 this week (a mental milestone). Zero diet changes. It's three days, not the end of the world, but definitely an outlier in my log. Hoping it's a bump in the road.

The Good.
Today's workout was phenomenal. Weight felt heavy, but it was moving. I COULD move up in 4-5 of my lifts Saturday. Usually it's one MAYBE 2. Will likely bump 3 up.
 
Well.... no idea WTF is going on in the weight department. If anything, been a little more strict in diet. Two weeks where not only stalled, but went up a tad on AVG daily weight since adding recomp20 (Previously was dropping a consistent .6lb a week). I FEEL leaner. But that is so subjective it's crap.

Positive side, weights moving well and progress has been really good.

Quite confused. Anyway, at halfway mark (8weeks). Will put up new pics after the weekend.

Valid points. comments:
1. I REALLY started on 2/14, blip in jan was daily. I only really care about AVG for the week. I track daily and avg so the highs/lows are accounted for.

2. Diet workout days
pre w/o drink 15G maltodextrin, 15g protein,
post workout 60g malt, 60g protein,
2 hrs later 6-8 ounces lean meat, maybe (usually not)1 slice wholegrain bread
few hours later, protein bar 20g P, 180 cal,
around 6pm dinner, 6-8 ounces lean meat. ridiculously big salad (lettuce, tomatoes, onion, 1/4c dried cranberries, 1/4c dressing)
2-4 mandarins spread throughout day.
Non -workout, substitute 3 eggs + slice whole grain bread for pre/post drink

3. Agree, def not all negative
 
Well, worked ou this AM so snapped some pictures. All pictures are cold pre-wo in the morning. Truthfully, looking at before / after I give myself a 2 out of 10. NOT looking at the pictures... 7/10. I see alot of not so subtle changes that do not translate to the photo's. But you have to go with what you can objectively compare.

This is the first time I've ever taken photos... so leaving them out of the review as I have no benchmark for previous times i've made a serious effort.

Halfway through (8 weeks), I'm happy with the results at my age. Numbers keep going up and, I see changes in the mirror (which might be 98% in my head)

But I have to whole heartedly admit... based on the pictures I'm like... "meh... nice try you fat old b@#$%^&" :)

I might retake photos with same lighting... dunno
