I’m just not that strong (yet)!

Sorry to hear about the latest life troubles. My condolences man...You should do it! Always great to have a concrete goal or motivator to add a little fuel to the fire!

That’s a good distance away to make a decision for plenty of time to prepare.

If you think you’d enjoy it and think you’d like to try and hit specific weights on the platform I’d say go for it.

Nothing wrong with competing and nothing wrong with just sticking your head down and continuing making progress, choose what sounds more motivating to you.

When I first started my log here I had a goal of doing some sort of competition. I did a meet way back in 2016, and at times I get the itch. But when that happens I immediately think I need to train like a world class athlete and squat, bench and deadlift every session.

No worries, feel free to drop in when you can. If not, that's OK too. I use it mostly for myself, but I do like the community aspect on here. And if it helps some others in the future, that's a bonus.

I think there's two mindsets, either is probably correct:

1. Only compete if you're going to go full bore to medal / target numbers to hit.

2. Compete either way. Competing regardless of if you're competitive or not vs the rest of the field, still separates you from 99% of lifters. That's the goal/achievement in of itself.

I've never competed in any athletic endeavors really, aside from a few 5ks and a mudrun. But again for me, that was the goal. Training to do the event. I wasn't thinking about setting any world records, but it gave me the end point, the timeframe, and the mindset.

I need to go as a spectator to a few PL meets, but I could see the experience alone would be worth training for - even if lifting poverty weights!

Last night was day one of parent teacher conferences so I didn’t get home until after 8:00. Did not want to lift this morning, but got in a decent session.

Over the weekend got to see some of the Rogue Invitational. Damn that was cool as hell! I watched a lot of the men’s strongman competition. Those guys are monsters!

Watched the Men’s Deadlift event recording on Rogue’s YouTube channel with the wife the other night; they did a phenomenal job with the presentation I think - very professional production. Would recommend anyone check out some of the events.

Alright Slim, the people wanna see you bump those dips to 3x10 and Chins to 40 total next time if you can. Something magic always starts to happen for me north of that 40-rep line for volume!

The overall presentation looked great.

Roger that on the volume!! I gotta keep moving that upwards. For this template Wendler suggests 50-100 reps of the assistance categories.
 
@Hyde … follow up question…… would it make sense to move into an upper/lower split to accommodate an increase in the volume? Right now the prescription is for a main lift with a full body assistance approach.

Given the nature of your accessory work, I wouldn’t worry about that right now. You doing 3 sets of pushups on deadlift days or split squats on a pressing day isn’t really going to break the next lifting days main lift, no matter what it is. I don’t think it’s enough volume to really impact performance. Plus you often have at least 48 hours between most sessions.

Today my top set was 95% of my training max. Debating attempting to use RPE to determine when to raise my training max. This was a guess with me thinking I could do 2-3 more reps. Last block I kept my training max the same for the entire block and it worked well… so there’s that. 🤷‍♂️
 
I’d keep the TM the same but keep “guessing” your RPE for a bit. Then when you test you can compare and see if you think your RPE seems in line with things which can help you determine when and how to use it in the future.

Yeah that’s kind of how I thought I may end up using it in the end. Thank you!

man when it rains it pours. hopefully everything works out well for you guys! we have had a lot of luck replacing appliances from the ding and dent section...
 
Hopefully the repairs are simple and a better option than full replacement!

Thanks everyone! We’ve been blessed and we’ve never gone without. Just a couple heavy hitters back to back. Furnace is still to be determined. We will have a dryer delivered on Friday.

This is why we have a home warranty. It’s only a matter of time; easier to just pay $500 a year for the warranty and a couple service calls we’ll inevitably need. We’ve had several electrical circuits fixed, the dryer repaired, heater fixed, microwave replaced, new freezer, garage door spring. Definitely pays for itself if you don’t have a new house & appliances. Also takes a lot of the stress off because you know they have to get something working or pay you out.

We just renewed with Choice Home Warranty after my last 3 year was ending. $75 service calls and we got another 40 months for under $1,400. Talk with an actual sales rep on the phone, don’t just sign up online.

You have to use whoever they pick for the service calls, and you will get appointments a little slower than if you did it yourself, but it takes about 3 minutes to open a ticket and they do all the footwork finding someone.

We had another company prior our first year in the home, a little fancier, but the rates went up a lot after the first year and they basically said take it or leave it, so we left it lol.

Our heater went out too! Blowing but not lighting consistently, so then it just moves cool air around. Resetting it has gotten it re-lit a couple times now so we’ve been living warm, but I’ve got a service call scheduled for Tuesday scheduled through the home warranty if it keeps failing. $65 & worth it!

Oh no!! 65 bucks is a lot cheaper than what we paid. Hope it is fixed easily!

Nice job getting those chin-ups up! Also, what weight kettlebells are you using for the RDLs? I find them to be almost a perfect height, but they can’t give much load.

Yeah it’s a tricky move for me balance wise so I’m only doing a 20lb KB….. this day would be awesome for back raises. Just need to find the $$ for one.

Does a very light barbell good morning or RDL make more sense here?

I mean if balance & bloodflow are the primary objectives then it’s fine, but if you want to hit the posterior musculature harder more load is a bigger impact for hypertrophy.

I’ve done BB RDLs…. Just trying a different move for assistance. I’ve never been able to correctly do a good morning, although it’s been quite some time since I’ve done them.
